My alliterative name is a huge reason for my success

It's a huge part of my success and a big reason why I kind of am where I am today. [Matt Bortles or Ted Bortles] nowhere near it – no, not even close.

The impact of a name on athletic success is inherently subjective/unverifiable.

The Jaguars have a better chance of making the playoffs than the Bears or Bills

[Big Cat]: Which of those three [Bears, Bills, Jaguars] do you think have the best chance of going to the playoffs? [Blake Bortles]: I would have to say us.

In 2016, the Jaguars finished 3-13, the Bears finished 3-13, and the Bills finished 7-9. None made the playoffs.

The Jaguars will go 8-8 this year

Everybody declared that the book reader Blake Bortles was ready to turn the corner and so on. But the fact their offensive line is bad, and I think they go 8-8 this year.

The 2016 Jaguars were much worse than 8-8, finishing the season with a 3-13 record.

Blake Bortles will not be the starting quarterback for the Jaguars by Week 8.

Blake Bortles is a fucking fantasy football and real life fantasy and real life football disappointment... He's not going to be starting by week eight. All right. I predict week eight. No injury. Bye-bye.

Bortles remained the starter for the entire 2017 season and led the Jaguars to the AFC Championship game.

Blake Bortles is back... he is QB1 for the season. All you haters out there. Blake Bortles, QB1, Jacksonville Jaguars. Write it down.

Bortles did start all 16 games for the Jaguars in 2017, leading them to the AFC Championship game.

Blake Bortles is officially back

So my who's back of the week is Blake Bortles of the Blake Bortles Wikipedia Club. Huge game. Four touchdowns. He's back.

Bortles actually led the Jaguars to the AFC Championship game in the 2017 season, making this take arguably correct for the context of that specific season.

Blake Bortles is a top 5 quarterback in the NFL

Name five better. Go ahead, Hank. Give us your top five quarterbacks right now. Tom Brady, Jared Goff, Blake Bortles, and then the list dramatically falls off after that.

Blake Bortles was never statistically or reputationally a top 5 NFL QB, despite a strong 2017 playoff run.

The Jaguars are going to make the 2017 AFC Championship Game

I'm going out on a limb. I think that the Jaguars are making the AFC Championship. They have that right mix where it's like they have a great defense. If they just run the ball, let Blake [Bortles] be Blake.

The Jaguars actually did make the AFC Championship Game, where they lost to the Patriots.

Blake Bortles and Jimmy Garoppolo are the two best quarterbacks in the NFL

Jacksonville versus the Niners, the hot Niners. That's a huge one. I said earlier on Larry's picks, this is the as-we-all-expected game because Blake Bortles and Jimmy Garoppolo are the two best quarterbacks in the NFL right now, as we all expected.

While both were playing well in December 2017, they were objectively not the two best QBs in the league (Tom Brady was MVP that year).

Blake Bortles is the 70th best quarterback in the NFL

Jacksonville is the best team in football... the problem is you've got to knock them down a few ranks because they have the 70th best quarterback... No, I'm not taking anything back from what I've said. Sorry. Negative.

Bortles led the Jags to the AFC Championship and nearly the Super Bowl that year. While he eventually flamed out, ranking him 70th (behind players like Austin Davis) while he was winning playoff games was widely considered an absurd exaggeration.

A healthy Blake Bortles is basically the Jaguars' best free agent signing

It's my favorite sports radio caller when a guy comes back from injury and they're like, well, we don't have to do anything in the free agent signings because we basically get the best free agent back. That's essentially what's happening with Blake Bortles. Now they have real Blake Bortles. Preseason MVP, let's book it.

Bortles was benched during the 2018 season and was not an MVP candidate; he was released by the Jaguars in early 2019.

Can I just say fuck everyone for thinking that Teddy Bridgewater is better than Blake Bortles? ... Blake had a bad wrist last year, and he got it cleaned up. And he was a quarter away from the Super Bowl, so everyone just shut up.

Bortles was benched later in the 2018 season, while Bridgewater eventually revived his career as a starter and high-end backup, suggesting Bridgewater was the superior talent.

Blake Bortles destroyed the Pittsburgh Steelers

I was saying, okay, who killed these Pittsburgh Steelers? Was it the Browns? Nope. Was it Patrick Mahomes? Nope. Blake Bortles destroyed the Pittsburgh Steelers by beating them twice last year in their own backyard.

While funny, the Steelers' issues were more internal/contractual (Bell/Brown) than specifically caused by Blake Bortles.

Cody Kessler was brought in to make Blake Bortles nervous, not to make the team better

I don't think [Kessler] was there to make Blake Bortles better. I think he was brought in to make Blake Bortles nervous. And that's not a recipe for having a good football team.

While speculative, the Jaguars' benching of Bortles for Kessler did not result in improvement, and Bortles was released shortly after.

The Jacksonville Jaguars made the biggest mistake in franchise history. I have put a curse on them... basically we're just cursing Nick Foles because Nick Foles, you should not have done that... You can't fill the shoes of Blake Bortles in Jacksonville.

Blake Bortles is being blackballed by the NFL because he drives a Tesla

I think that Blake Bortles is being blackballed by the NFL because he drives a Tesla and because the league sponsors are motor oil companies [like] Castrol, Havoline, other competing rivals against Elon Musk and Tesla.

Bortles' lack of a roster spot was due to performance, not his choice of electric vehicle or oil company conspiracies.

The Jaguars' defensive window closed because they got rid of Blake Bortles

The real story is you have to score points in this league if you want to compete in AFC Championship game and they got rid of the quarterback... everyone was talking about how [the Jaguars] now have two starters left from that 2017 game... none of them mentioned that Blake Bortles also gone.

The Jaguars did collapse after 2017, but consensus attributes it to the defense leaving and Bortles' play declining, not his absence.
