All Takes
I could still hit 4 home runs in a full MLB season today
Yeah, I do. Yeah, I do too... maybe I do have a chance. I would just need a couple ambulances. 'Cause after the games, I'm gonna have to like going to take care of my body.
MLB is currently in the best place it's been in a decade
This is the best baseball it's been in 10 years. I think Rob Manfred has done an incredible job with the with the time clock, with the basis, I mean the pace of the game.
My relationship with Derek Jeter is as good as it’s been in over 20 years because I finally grew up.
Our relationship is great. It is as good as it's been in I would say over 20 years. And, and part of it is Dan is me growing up, right? Like, I mean, and when I look back now I'm like, man, I must have been a very difficult guy to deal with.
Fernando Tatis Jr. did absolutely nothing wrong by swinging on a 3-0 count while up eight runs; the manager is responsible for giving a red light.
Tatis did nothing wrong. He is basically our LeBron James in the making. He is colorful, he is fun. We need more of that. Let's promote him and baseball, let's just loosen up a little bit. Number one, you should never get upset at the player. It is the manager's responsibility to determine green light, red light. If you're up eight and I'm the manager, I have to tell you green light or don't swing. Tatis did nothing wrong.
Pitchers should never throw at a batter's head; if you want to hit someone, hit them in the ribs or under the belt.
I don't believe that if you're a pitcher throwing 98 miles an hour you should throw someone's head to even some type of argument or something that you disagree with. If you want to hit someone, you should hit them under the belt or at the ribs—no higher than that because you can end somebody's life. That's the truth of it.
The new Yankee Stadium is a joke to hit home runs in compared to the old stadium.
Moving into [the new Yankee Stadium] was like we were moving into the Peninsula Hotel, something really, really fancy, but it was just a joke to hit home runs. The old stadium had a better fan environment... but this stadium, it was just a joke to hit home runs.
Derek Jeter will be a successful executive if given five years to fix the Marlins, and I would not bet against him.
Give [Derek Jeter] five years before passing judgment because he walked into a very difficult situation. Here's a five-time world champion, a Hall of Famer—Jeter is going to be just fine. I would not bet against Mr. Jeter.
The late 90s Mariners are one of the best teams to never win a World Series
The sad thing is that I found out very quickly the difference between good and great is very small... That's a great – I think that's one of the best teams that's never won... very seldom do you have a team that you have the best pitcher in the game in Randy Johnson, the best player in the game in Ken Griffey Jr., the best pure hitter in the game in Edgar Martinez, and the scariest, baddest motherfucker in Jay Buhner.
Jerry Jones is one of the smartest people I've ever met and a true forward thinker
Jerry's one of the smartest people I've ever met. He's talking about a forward thinker and a guy that can see around corners and a guy that has just the biggest set of balls that I've ever seen. I mean, the guy is just, I love him.
I earned my Yankee pinstripes by the 2009 season
[Speaker 3]: Have you officially, do you think you earned your pinstripes? [A-Rod]: Yes. 100%. Not even a flinch... To 2009.
Curt Schilling and Pedro Martinez are the two best pitchers I ever faced in my career
Here's what I know is he [Curt Schilling] and Pedro Martinez are the best two pitchers that I've ever faced in the major leagues. Now, Pedro, 1999 Pedro, Cy Young, where he was unhittable. And Schilling in 2001 in the World Series, he had some of the greatest stuff I've ever seen.
I hope to get into the Hall of Fame despite my mistakes
Look, I really hope and wish that I get in. But ultimately, that's not my decision. But I do think that I have a great opportunity... if that cost me the Hall of Fame, then I have no one to blame but myself.
