Anthony Edwards is the best young leader in the NBA

When it comes to the young up and coming superstars, I've never seen a leader like [Anthony Edwards]. And he's the best young leader in the game of basketball.

Subjective assessment of leadership quality among players under 25.

The Timberwolves have the Denver Nuggets 'crying like babies'

I said the T-Wolves got them crying like babies. The Denver Nuggets are doing all that damn crying. What the babies gonna do if you gonna do all that damn crying? They had Michael Malone whining to the referees. They had Jamal Murray crying to the referees. They had them uncomfortable.

While subjective, Jamal Murray's heating pad incident in Game 2 became a literal illustration of the frustration Perk described.

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander should have won the 2023-24 NBA MVP over Nikola Jokic

I voted for SGA. I voted for Shai because Shai last year Oklahoma didn't even make the playoffs. This year they're the number one seed in the Western conference. He's first in the league in steals, shooting 54% from the field as a shooting guard... He has the best record in the tough Western Conference.

Nikola Jokic officially won the MVP award, making Perk's vote for Shai Gilgeous-Alexander a minority (though justified) position.

The 2008 Celtics only won the championship because they had home court advantage

I just think about that 2008 season. Us having home court advantage actually was the key reason why we, the number one reason why we won the NBA championship. It was the number one reason because we knew once we got you back to the garden, we was gonna spike that ass.

The 2008 Celtics went 13-1 at home in the playoffs and 3-9 on the road, supporting the idea that home court was vital.

The Celtics cannot win the NBA title without a healthy Kristaps Porzingis

The one concern that I have for the Boston Celtics is can Kristaps Porzingis be healthy for four seven game series? And right now the answer is no. They're gonna need 'em. They can't win at all unless they have them and he gotta be healthy.

The Celtics actually won the 2024 NBA Championship despite Porzingis missing most of the playoffs and being limited in the Finals.

LeBron James should retire because every season he doesn't win a ring hurts his 'GOAT' case

I wish [LeBron James] would retire because at this point I'm looking at it, what else is it for LeBron to accomplish?... every single season that you're playing and that you don't win a championship... you give more animosity or more arguments to come at you about the goat debate.

LeBron did not retire in 2024; whether it hurts his legacy is subjective.

The Timberwolves will win the NBA championship and Anthony Edwards will be Finals MVP

I got the Celtics coming out of the East. I got the Minnesota Timberwolves coming out of the West and I got Anthony Edwards Finals MVP, Minnesota taking it all.

The Timberwolves lost in the Western Conference Finals to the Mavericks. The Celtics won the championship.

Anthony Edwards, Jalen Brunson, and Josh Hart are the top three 'dogs' in the NBA

Number one is gonna be Anthony Edwards. Rotweiler. Now it's a certain type of dog. No teacup oodles. I'm gonna go Anthony Edwards, I'm gonna go Jalen Brunson... and number three, I gotta go with Josh Hart. He's the best rebounding guard in the playoffs... snatching them in traffic.

Subjective classification using metaphorical 'dog' rankings.

I would not have a spot in today's NBA

No, not at all. I would probably be playing overseas... I'm glad I came along when I did. nowadays, if you assume that you gotta have a 40 inch vertical, you gotta be able to run the floor like a gazelle. No way I would have been able to keep up with the pace.

Perkins' style as a traditional, non-shooting big man has largely been phased out of the modern NBA.

The NBA will not return to finish the 2019-20 season

Now I've come to the conclusion... I honestly don't see the NBA coming back. It's going to be hard... I couldn't see myself leaving my family right now to go with it and play an isolated area on the bubble.

The NBA did return in July 2020 to finish the season and playoffs in the Orlando bubble.

Rudy Gobert is essentially a savior for forcing the world to take COVID-19 seriously

Rudy was kind of like a bad guy, but he was almost like a savior... he possibly saved some lives by doing an immature act because after the incident, the NBA led the charge and shut down sports. From there it was a spiral where everyone else was like, 'it's time to shut down the world.'

While controversial, it is a historical fact that the NBA's shutdown was a major catalyst for other US institutions following suit.

Mark Jackson deserves more credit than Steve Kerr for the Warriors dynasty

Mark Jackson built that coach over there. Mark Jackson is on record calling the Splash Brothers the Splash Brothers. He's on record talking noise saying 'I got the best two shooters in the world.' Steve Kerr just happened to see the stroke go right.

While Jackson laid groundwork, Kerr's offensive overhaul is widely credited by the players and analysts for unlocking their championship ceiling.

Russell Westbrook is the greatest Thunder player ever, even if KD was the best

Russell Westbrook was the greatest Thunder ever. I didn't say he was the best player to ever play for the Thunder... the greatest is like a person who held it down... put up some great numbers. When you hear the name Thunder, you think of this person. Katie [Durant] left the door open.

Common debate in sports; Westbrook stayed while Durant left, leading many OKC fans to agree.

Kevin Durant will win NBA MVP in the 2020-21 season

I actually think [Kevin Durant] is going to win the MVP next year on top of it... with him going to the Nets, I think it's going to be his team. It is his team.

Nikola Jokic won the 2020-21 NBA MVP award. Durant finished 22nd in voting after playing only 35 games.

The Lakers would have won the title this year if the season continued

The Lakers [would have won]. They were peaking at the right time. LeBron was on his way of challenging Giannis in my eyes to winning the MVP. They have the best duo in the league since Kobe and Shaq.

The Lakers won the 2019-20 NBA Championship in the Orlando bubble.

Old school NBA coaches are becoming extinct

It's a different type of it's not like old school no more. Like these old school coaches are coming extinct. It's a player's league. You got to have coaches that's going to understand the players... I almost think that Gregg Popovich's time is almost, you know, he's done a great job, but maybe it's time for new change.

The Spurs struggled in the years following this take, though Popovich remains a respected figure.

Gregg Popovich's time with the San Antonio Spurs has run its course

I almost think that Gregg Pop's time is almost... as great of a job as he's done, but at some point we all run our course and maybe it's time for new change over there with the Spurs.

The Spurs kept Popovich and eventually drafted Victor Wembanyama, renewing the franchise's direction under him.
