Duke basketball is back

Duke's back... They beat Arizona State by 50 in a scrimmage... They might be back. God damnit they might be back.

Duke made the Final Four as a #1 seed in 2025, with Cooper Flagg as a dominant freshman. They beat Alabama 85-65 in the Elite Eight before losing to Houston in the semis. Duke basketball was indeed 'back' as a national contender.

I want UConn to stay in the Big East because conference realignment is ruining the sport

I want UConn to stay in the Big East. But I also realize that the Big 12 would just be so fucking good with basketball... But I don't want to happen. UConn should be in the Big East. They're home right now. Let's leave them home.

As of late 2024, UConn remains in the Big East despite ongoing rumors about a Big 12 move.

Coach K is a hypocritical fraud for refusing halftime media interviews

Whoa. Are you, are you just realizing now that huge [hypocrite] fraud? Well, no. Jake is just realizing now because it's about halftime interview with the media. He never does halftime because he plays, plays on the roof. That's crazy. Like I understand he's a legend for whatever, but just take the interview.

Coach K famously avoided many standard media tropes during his tenure, which is a matter of record.

The Duke basketball season is a failure if Coach K doesn't win the national title

I know we joke around about saying—like if Coach K doesn't lead them to a national championship, then it's an utter failure.

Duke reached the Final Four but lost to North Carolina in Coach K's final game. By the standard set here, it was a 'failure'.

The Mike Woodson hire at Indiana probably won't work

They hired Mike Woodson... He's never coached college basketball in his life... That doesn't feel like it's going to work. What do you mean? A guy who has never coached college basketball.

Woodson's tenure has been a struggle; after three seasons, Indiana has only made the tournament twice (exiting early) and failed to make it in 2024, leading to significant fan unrest.

Loyola Chicago is in great shape to make the NCAA tournament

They're in great shape to make the tournament... If they make the tournament, everyone's going to talk about [Sister Jean].

Loyola Chicago did make the 2021 NCAA Tournament as an 8-seed and advanced to the Sweet Sixteen.

It is time for Coach K to think about stepping down

Listen, maybe it's time for Coach K to think about stepping down.

Coach K announced his retirement just a few months later (June 2021) and coached one final season in 2021-2022.

Coach K is in his 'snappy' territory and it will only get worse from here

Coach K is definitely in his snappy territory where it's going to get worse. This isn't the last time he snaps on someone.

Coach K remained polarizing and frequently short with the media until his retirement in 2022.

Rick Pitino will be coaching at a Power 5 school within three years

I own a fancy. Yeah, damn Rick and so he is ready to get mean he's going to be in a power 5 school in within three years too.

Rick Pitino was hired by St. John's on March 20, 2023, almost exactly three years after this episode.

The NCAA is a 'supervillain' organization for fining players who aren't allowed to earn money.

I applaud the NCAA for figuring out a way to find your players who aren't allowed to be making money and expect them to pay you to come back and play. It's next-level supervillainry, so congratulations for innovation.

The NCAA has since moved towards NIL (Name, Image, Likeness) rules, validating many of the criticisms PFT and others leveled at the old system.

John Beilein is one of the best coaches in college basketball

John Beilein's an unbelievable coach. I do not root for Michigan, but John Beilein is one of the best coaches in college basketball. I'm comfortable saying that.

Beilein led Michigan to the National Championship game in 2018 and is widely regarded as one of the elite tactical coaches of that era.

Short, tighter shorts are making a major comeback in college basketball

The bagginess has gotten way too far. It's getting in the way of the dribbles. These guys like to go between their legs a lot, you know, with these new players out there. So they're bringing back short, tighter shorts. A couple guys in Indiana are doing it. I've seen it across the Big East, too, I think. So we're going to see a major swing here. Get out in front of this. If you're a college basketball player, tighten those things up.

The trend toward shorter, tighter shorts in basketball (and sports in general) moved away from the baggy 'Fab Five' era significantly in the late 2010s.

Tom Crean will be hired by another team specifically because he has a 'contentable' face

Tom Crean, he will get fired by Indiana sooner rather than later. But someone will hire him simply because of his face. He's got a brand. Crean has a contentable face. He has an exceptionally stupid-looking face. And that in itself, that's a brand that people will be like, oh, wow, where is Tom Crean coaching? He can go coach the Missouri Valley, and people will now be watching Missouri Valley games because of his name and his face.

PredictionCBBMediumSarcastic
Crean was fired by Indiana in March 2017 and hired by Georgia in 2018. While his 'face' wasn't the official reason, the PMT crew's obsession with his expressions became a staple of his tenure at Georgia.
