Zebras run towards grass fires because they know they can run through them and get to the other side that's burnt out because they can't outrun the fire.

While some animals may flee to burnt areas to avoid predators, fire generally moves much faster than a zebra, and running into a grass fire is usually fatal. Billy likely saw a specific video or misinterpreted a fact.
