Coach K Is Done + Stanford Steve/Mark Titus Wing Date At Fat Harry’s In New Orleans

Monday, April 4, 202211 takes

Live from New Orleans for Coach K’s funeral. We recap Saturday night’s game and all the craziness from the Superdome. (-) We then go into the time capsule where we recorded directly after Saturday nights game a little drunk. (-) Who’s back of the week.(-) And we finish the show with Stanford Steve and Mark Titus live from Fat Harry’s in New Orleans for our wing date (-)

Coach K's Final Loss, New Orleans Time Capsule, and a Wing Date with Stanford Steve & Mark Titus

Duke is dead. Coach K is retired. The Superdome hosted the funeral of a legacy, and the guys were there to witness every second of the meltdown. Big Cat, PFT, and a visibly broken Hank record a special time capsule directly after the game to capture the raw, drunken emotion of North Carolina ending the Krzyzewski era once and for all. While Hank struggles to find any coping mechanisms for his first real loss as a Duke fan, Big Cat is basking in the glow of the greatest hater victory in sports history.

The Funeral in the Superdome

Returning from the arena with blue-mountain Coors Lights still fresh on their breath, the energy is electric. Big Cat immediately goes for the jugular, declaring that everything Coach K accomplished has been wiped away by losing his final home game and his final career game to his arch-rival. He isn't just celebrating the win; he's celebrating the definitive proof of a coaching hierarchy in the state of North Carolina.

UNC's win over Duke is the final proof that Roy Williams was a better coach than Coach K over the last 20 years

Tonight's victory over duke is the final feather in the cap for Roy Williams, being a better head coach in the state of North Carolina than Mike Krzyzewski was in the last 20 years.

This is a matter of debate between two legendary coaches, made more poignant by UNC beating Duke in K's final game.

Hank, meanwhile, is in a specialized type of pain. He watched his Blue Devils stumble at the finish line, specifically pointing to the charity stripe as the site of the crime. But even in his grief, he had to give credit to the man who actually pulled the trigger on the Duke season.

Caleb Love is an awesome player with no fear of the big moment

I love Caleb Love. He's awesome... He has no, it doesn't give a fuck... the moment wasn't too big for him. Cause he doesn't care. He just wants to fucking shoot no matter what the circumstances are.

Caleb Love was a key player for UNC's run and famously hit the late three-pointer to seal the game against Duke.

The post-game fallout only got weirder as the guys dissected the press conference. Big Cat was particularly fascinated by the way Coach K tried to spin a Final Four loss into a trophy ceremony while simultaneously highlighting the mistakes of his own players.

Coach K is a hypocrite for claiming the 2022 Duke team was 'double champions'

I watched all of coach K's press conference... I didn't realize this, but coach K was helpfully telling the reporters... this team has actually, they accomplished something very rare in college basketball. They're double champions... He's counting their regular season ACC championship and winning the west region. Western region champions is this. So he threw Mark Williams completely under the bus... [claiming] it's not one player's fault but then bringing it up over and over.

While Duke did win the regular season and the region, calling them 'double champions' in the context of the National Championship is a subjective framing that Big Cat is mocking.

Who's Back of the Week

The sports world didn't stop just because a vampire in Durham finally saw the sun. PFT brings a heavy dose of investigative heat to the table regarding the Washington Commanders and the potential downfall of Dan Snyder. While sexual harassment and toxic culture didn't move the needle for the NFL owners, it turns out that messing with their wallets is the ultimate sin.

Dan Snyder's financial theft from other owners will be what finally forces him to sell the team

Dan Snyder... Apparently Snyder was lying about how much money he was getting into his gate. So he was actively stealing from the other owners... if you steal a million dollars from Jed York, they want to kill you. And so it looks like if anything's going to happen, this would be what could bring Dan Snyder down.

Dan Snyder eventually sold the Washington Commanders in 2023 following a series of investigations, including financial ones.

Big Cat is already planning the parade route for the day Snyder is forced out, noting that the "Doomsday Clock" for the Commanders' ownership is ticking faster than ever after reports of withholding ticket revenue from the league pool.

Dan Snyder is as close as he's ever been to being forced to sell the Washington Commanders

Florio just texted me a second ago and was like, we're as close as we've ever been to him getting to sell the team... If Snyder was lying about how much money he was getting into his gate, he was actively stealing from the other owners... if you steal a million dollars from Jed York, they want to kill you.

Snyder did eventually sell the team in 2023, though it was a culmination of many factors beyond just this specific ticket revenue allegation.

Switching to the links, PFT is standing with the golf hardos this week. The hallowed grounds of Augusta National usually pride themselves on being more exclusive than a secret society, but they apparently let their guard down for some TikTok-friendly content that has the traditionalists in a tailspin.

The Masters at Augusta National is tarnished by letting Dude Perfect and Bryson DeChambeau film content there

The course at Augusta National Georgia... tough look over the weekend. Bryson DeChambeau and Dude Perfect got together... and they went to Augusta's Amen Corner... I actually am on the side of golf hardos that like, if you say that exclusivity is your thing and it's sacred, you can't have this.

This is a subjective opinion about the 'sacredness' of a golf course.

Wing Date at Fat Harry's

To wrap up the New Orleans trip, the guys headed to Fat Harry's for the long-awaited wing date with Stanford Steve and Mark Titus. It was Titus's first time ever eating a Buffalo wing—a sentence that still doesn't feel real—and the vibes were as sticky as the sauce. Amidst the baskets of chicken, Titus decided to drop some truth bombs about the actual prestige of the program that just lost its leader.

Duke's status as a 'Blue Blood' is fraudulent because their success is entirely dependent on one coach

Is Duke a blue blood? Are they a program that had one good coach? I'm talking about Vic Bubas who... went to the Final Four. Take away the Coach K era, what has Duke done? Nothing. They are a program that had one good coach.

This is a philosophical debate about what makes a program a 'Blue Blood.'

While the group looked ahead to the Monday night finale, the consensus shifted toward the Jayhawks. The emotional tax of the Duke-UNC war was simply too high for the Tar Heels to pay twice in 48 hours. Big Cat is ready to put his money where his mouth is, betting on a Kansas coronation.

Kansas will defeat UNC in the National Championship game

I'm going to predict it... I think Kansas is actually going to win. I'm going to bet on Kansas in the Natty, because I do feel like the UNC Duke game was UNC's national title... I feel like it was so much emotion that got spent in that game.

Kansas defeated UNC 72-69 on April 4, 2022, to win the national championship.

Titus isn't just picking against UNC; he's betting against the entire future of the Duke program under Jon Scheyer. He’s so confident that the Blue Devil machine is broken that he’s willing to put everything on the line to prove that the national title drought in Durham is just beginning.

I would bet my life that Duke will not win a national championship in the next 10 years

If Duke wins one title in the next 10 years, you've got to kill yourself... I'll take that bet. I would take the under... I'll bet you our lives. You get 10 years because... John Scheyer, we don't know. He's not proven.

As of 2024, Duke has not won a national championship since the bet was made (2022).

If the guys haven't been arrested for their various crimes against Duke fans by tomorrow, we'll see you for the National Championship recap.

I will continue to keep the same 'negative' energy about LeBron James as he requested

My who's back is LeBron... his tweets coming back and everyone's retweeting it... 'keep that same narrative energy when it begins'... And we are keeping that same energy. He asked me to... far be it for me to disobey one of LeBron James' orders.

The Lakers will miss the playoffs and I want them to get swept if they somehow make it

I really want them to make the playoffs because I want them to lose. I would like them to get swept in the playoffs. That'd be fun... [LeBron] asked me to keep that same narrative energy, so I am.

The Lakers finished 11th in the West and missed the Play-In tournament entirely.
