Peter Schrager on NFL Draft Rumors and Dillon Brooks Sucks at Being a Villain
The NBA Playoffs are in full swing, and Big Cat and PFT wasted no time addressing the biggest fraud in the league: Dillon Brooks. After an incident involving LeBron James and some questionable extracurricular contact, the guys are officially out on the Grizzlies' agitator.
Dillon Brooks is an all-time fraud and a fake tough guy
Dylan Brooks is an all-time fraud. He is a fraud. He's a fake tough guy. He decided that he wanted to be a villain... but you have to at least own up to the fact that not only did you touch LeBron James in the penis, but you also shot your team out... You are a complete fraud when it comes to this stuff.
PFT pointed out that being a villain isn't something you can just decide to do on a Tuesday morning. It takes years of being a menace to earn that level of hatred from opposing fanbases.
Dillon Brooks has not demonstrated the body of work required to be a real NBA villain
You can't just say like, I'm a villain now. That's too, it's, you have to demonstrate a body of work to become a villain. And he hasn't done that yet. He's not built up the rap sheet necessary to become a true villain.
The East and the Embiid Concern
In the Eastern Conference, the Sixers managed to sweep the Nets, but the real story is Joel Embiid's health. While Doc Rivers is sounding the alarm on a "bad MRI," Max is convinced his superstar will be ready for the next round. He even tried to defend Embiid's constant trips to the floor as a health benefit.
Joel Embiid falling down on purpose is better for his body's health
The falling is good. The falling is good. Memes and I were watching a video on it... he chooses to fall because it's better for his body. See, you wouldn't understand.
Joel Embiid will play in the next series despite his knee injury
He'll be ready to go. I know Docs have given the whole 50-50 that he's gonna play. [Doc Rivers is saying] he's not gonna play. [I'm saying] he's gonna fucking play.
As for the Nets, the Spencer Dinwiddie era (or error) might be reaching its logical conclusion. PFT isn't buying the idea that you can build a contender around him as a primary option.
You cannot win high-level basketball with Spencer Dinwiddie as a focal point
If you actually play with [Spencer Dinwiddie], you realize like, this dude, we cannot win with this guy.
Meanwhile, Hank is remarkably calm after the Celtics dropped a game to the Hawks. He's treating it as a minor speed bump on the way to a deeper run, though he did manage to confuse some shooting percentages during the discussion.
The Celtics' loss to the Hawks was just a wake-up call, they are fine
It was a good wake up call. They can't play defense like that to win in the playoffs. They got, you know, it was a wake up call. They, and now they're good back on track.
Warriors Survive and NHL Overtime Madness
The Warriors and Kings are giving us the best series of the first round. Steph Curry nearly pulled a Chris Webber with a late timeout blunder, which led the guys down a rabbit hole of all-time "ball don't lie" moments.
Chris Webber's timeout is the ultimate 'ball don't lie' moment in sports history
The Chris Webber timeout thing... that fake timeout that didn't exist, that is maybe the ultimate 'ball don't lie' moment. Because Webber got the ball on the inbounds pass and he traveled, he clearly walked, the refs didn't call it. And then he goes down and does [the timeout]. That's number one.
Big Cat also noted that we might finally be at the point where Steph's legacy is so solidified that we can stop the "underrated" talk for good.
Steph Curry is no longer underrated; he is now perfectly rated
There was a portion [where he was underrated]... recently when they missed the playoffs. But then I think last year was it. There's no one that underrates him anymore. Right now he's exactly correctly rated. Perfect. He's the perfect rated right now.
Draymond Green is on another level defensively and changes games more than people realize
I don't think, because he gets talked about for all the other shit... sometimes we forget how, just how game changing he is defensively and his passing.
Over on the ice, Hank had a "man in the arena" moment. He spent the whole week telling everyone to bet the overtimes in the NHL playoffs, only to watch three games go to the extra period on the one night he didn't pull the trigger.
You should bet every NHL playoff game to go into overtime
I hope there's people listening that listen to me. I didn't listen to myself. But if you bet it [overtime], it cashed a lot. So I hope people listened and bet it.
Draft Talk with Peter Schrager
With the NFL Draft just days away, our good friend Peter Schrager joined the show to separate the smoke from the fire. While the top of the draft feels like a lock, everything after pick one is pure chaos. Schrager is leaning heavily toward Bryce Young going to Carolina, but he isn't sold on the Texans going with a quarterback at two.
Bryce Young is 90% likely to be the #1 pick for the Panthers
90% I would say right now as we record this, yes he's a panther, but crazy stuff does happen... but as of right now, Bryce Young's a panther.
The Texans might draft Tyree Wilson over Will Anderson at #2
The four down defensive lineman is Tyree Wilson, that's the guy. And the highest paid defensive line coach in the league is this guy Chris Kociurek... he's a Texas Tech guy. And he would know Tyree Wilson... I'm not just saying because one guy went to Alabama [Anderson], they're taking Will Anderson.
One of the most interesting nuggets Peter Schrager dropped was the potential for a team like the Vikings to make a massive move. With Kirk Cousins entering a contract year, keep an eye on the back half of the top ten.
The Vikings are a team to watch for trading up to draft a quarterback for the future
Another team that I would keep an eye on... Kirk Cousins' contract is done after this year... if the Vikings are looking for the future and one of these guys starts slipping past 10, past 11, past 12... maybe they move up and they go and make a move and get one of them. I wouldn't be shocked with that.
Jalen Carter will not fall out of the top 10 in the draft
I'd be shocked, shocked if Jalen Carter fell out of the top 10. The Seahawks at five, Jalen Carter's a perfect fit... You go right down to the Eagles at 10.
Schrager also broke down the wide receiver class, noting that while there might not be a Jamar Chase-level talent, there is plenty of value if you know where to look. He also expects the Aaron Rodgers saga to finally end during the draft itself.
Either Jaxon Smith-Njigba or Jordan Addison will be the first wide receiver off the board
Stone cold lock first wide receiver off the board, him [Jaxon Smith-Njigba] or [Jordan] Addison. The wide receiver class... there are no blue chips. There are no top 10 picks. It is a different deal than last year where there was like six names that there was a run on them.
The Aaron Rodgers trade to the Jets will likely happen on Night 2 of the draft
They will get Rodgers, my prediction is night two, it probably goes down. And it might involve one of those, the 42nd or 43rd pick, which they have back to back and then some other conditional stuff beyond that.
We closed out the show with one of the most insane stories in PMT history: Max waking up in his girlfriend's roommate's bed after a night of sleepwalking. It’s a miracle he’s still allowed in the building.
Good luck to everyone on the lottery ball, unless your name is Hank.
