Zach Wilson's Struggles, Vikings Exposed, and NFL Week 11 Recap
Week 11 kicked off with a classic Fastest 2 Minutes that set the tone for a Sunday full of defensive struggles and one massive reality check in Minnesota. The headline story, unfortunately for the green side of New York, was the absolute offensive ineptitude of the Jets in a 10-3 loss to the Patriots. Zach Wilson finished with more punts than completions, leading Big Cat to draw a painful comparison to his own past trauma.
The 2022 Jets are a mirrors-image of the 2018 Chicago Bears
The comparison I've been making is the Jets this season feel like the 2018 Chicago Bears. And I say that because the Chicago Bears in 2018 were an elite defense. This Jets team has an elite defense. So good. The quarterback [Zach Wilson] was in their second year, second overall pick... It goes to the same problem of your team can be good and your quarterback's bad.
While the defense is Super Bowl caliber, Wilson’s inability to move the sticks—or take accountability in the post-game presser—has the season teetering. Billy Football, ever the optimist, tried to plant his flag on a mountain of delusional potential that left the rest of the room speechless.
Zach Wilson's ceiling is still Patrick Mahomes
I know this sounds crazy, but I really think [Zach Wilson's] ceiling's Patrick Mahomes. Just, it sounds crazy... I still think his ceiling is there.
The Jeff Saturday Experience and the Chiefs' Dominance
Down in Indy, Jeff Saturday nearly pulled off another miracle against the Eagles. While Philadelphia eventually woke up to win 17-16, the Colts looked like a completely different unit in terms of physicality. PFT noticed a shift in the identity of the team under their new interim coach.
Jeff Saturday will keep the Colts physically tough and competitive as 'cover machines'
The Colts continued to do what I think [Jeff] Saturday's gonna have him do, which is just be cover machines. And they played physically... I actually do think that the Colts are gonna continue to be super physical, maybe not like the most electric team... but they're not gonna roll over for anybody like they were before.
In the Sunday night slot, Patrick Mahomes reminded everyone why he’s the ultimate eraser. Even when the Chargers play a nearly perfect game, Mahomes only needs 90 seconds to rip their hearts out. It’s becoming a broken record, but Big Cat is ready to call it.
Surprising Contenders and the Tankathon
In the NFC, the landscape is shifting. The Commanders are suddenly a winning football team under Taylor Heinicke, and Big Cat is officially buying stock in their postseason aspirations.
The Washington Commanders will make the 2022 NFL playoffs
PFT, Taylor Heinicke is good, and the Commanders are good. I think they're gonna make the playoffs... If you beat the Giants... the winner of those two games is gonna go.
Even more surprising are the Detroit Lions, who have strung together three straight wins and are starting to look like the team everyone wanted them to be on Hard Knocks. With the bottom of the NFC being a total mess, the path is there if they can keep this momentum rolling through Thanksgiving.
The Detroit Lions are 'back' and could sneak into the 2022 playoffs
The Lions, they're back to like the scrappy Lions. They've won three in a row... just think about this for a second. If the Lions somehow beat the Bills on Thanksgiving Day, what that's gonna be? Holy shit... this Lions team might be, they could they could somehow get into the playoffs because the NFC, the bottom of the NFC is that bad.
On the flip side, the Bears lost another heartbreaker, this time to the Falcons. Justin Fields continues to look like a superstar, but the team continues to lose, which Big Cat has decided to frame as a very specific type of brilliance.
Justin Fields is 'great at losing' to help the Bears secure a better draft pick
Can I count [Justin Fields'] greatness both on the field and his play, but also the fact that he does just enough to lose every game to get the team better? Is that part of his greatness?... he's so great on the field and then he's so great in knowing just when to stop being great so the team can be future great.
Fraud Watch in Minnesota
The most anticipated game of the late window turned into a 40-3 massacre as the Cowboys went into Minnesota and embarrassed the 8-1 Vikings. It was the moment PMT fans had been waiting for—the definitive proof that the Vikings' point differential was telling the real story all along. Big Cat and PFT were ready to take their victory laps, even if they expect the Vikings to keep winning regular season games just to hurt their fans later.
The Vikings will finish 13-4 but everyone knows they will inevitably choke in the playoffs
I'm saying right now 13 and four is absolutely what they're gonna be I think... they're gonna win 13 games at least and then this is gonna happen and we're gonna come right back to these seats... we need to have an understanding that this is not personal... but you know that we know, and we know that you know exactly what's gonna happen.
Between the Vikings getting whomped and the Bengals quietly looking like the 2021 version of themselves, the playoff picture is finally starting to crystallize. The guys wrapped up with Football Guy of the Week and a look ahead to a massive Thanksgiving slate.
At least we still have the Mac Jones vs. Zach Wilson highlights to watch whenever we need to feel better about our own lives.
