Week 15 Recap: Bills Outlast Lions, Eagles Dominate, and Max's Broken Foot
Week 15 started with a bloodbath of backup quarterbacks and ended with some of the best football we've seen all year. While the early window featured a terrifying rotation of Tim Boyle, Tommy DeVito, and Jake Haener, the afternoon delivered a heavyweight clash in Detroit and a defensive masterclass in Philadelphia. PFT managed to survive the dome in New Orleans as the Commanders moved to 9-5, though the win wasn't exactly a confidence builder for the postseason.
The Commanders are not gonna win a playoff game if they keep playing like this
The commanders, they're, they're a good team, but I don't think that they're where they, they're not gonna win a playoff game if they keep playing like this.
The Chiefs and the Jamis Era in Cleveland
The Chiefs moved to 13-1 after handling the Browns, but the real story was Patrick Mahomes dealing with yet another high ankle sprain. We've seen this movie before, and Big Cat isn't ready to hit the panic button on the 1-seed quite yet.
Patrick Mahomes will be totally fine despite his high ankle sprain
Do we believe it? Do we think it matters? Because he, I feel like this happens to him once a year and he ends up being totally fine and everyone's like, oh man, he's banged up, but it'll be fine.
On the other side of that game, the Jameis Winston experience might have reached its final chapter in Cleveland. After three interceptions and a benching for DTR, the vibes have officially shifted from "eating Ws" to looking for a new bridge quarterback.
Jameis Winston's time as the starting quarterback in Cleveland is over
The bigger story is it might be over for Jamis [Winston] in Cleveland... When you get benched for DTR, it's bad. He was on, I'll say this, if you watch this game, the Chief's defensive line was on fire and Jamis had no time.
Cowboys, Raiders, and Mac Jones' Aura
Mike McCarthy might be the ultimate survivor. After winning three of their last four, it looks like the Cowboys' front office is warming up to keeping things as they are. Big Cat and PFT think the seat has cooled down significantly for Big Mike.
Mike McCarthy has saved his job with the Cowboys
The Cowboys won three straight and I think Mike McCarthy... they've saved Mike McCarthy's shot. I think he might be coming back next season.
Meanwhile, in Jacksonville, the Jets got a vintage performance from Aaron Rodgers and Devonte Adams in the second half. It was enough to make Memes put Rodgers' head back on his body, though he has a very specific plan for how the Jets should handle their front office and quarterback room moving forward.
The Jets should hire a new GM first, then a coach, and use Aaron Rodgers as a bridge to Jameis Winston
Hire GM. GM first... Hire coach. Hire coach... Aaron Rogers Bridge... Bridge to Jamis. Jamis could be on the team too. Give it another go next year. Then quarterback the next year.
The Jaguars loss was highlighted by Mac Jones being perhaps the most confident struggling quarterback we've ever seen. Between the finger wags and the trash talking while down multiple scores, Mac is carving out a very specific niche in the league.
Mac Jones might be the cockiest bad quarterback of all time
I think Mac Jones might be the cockiest bad quarterback of all time... he is legitimately cocky for how bad he is... he's got the cockiness of 'My dad will sue you.'
Statement Wins and Playoff Pictures
The Eagles absolutely physically dominated the Steelers, proving that their defense is a legitimate problem for anyone in the NFC. With the Lions struggling to find a stop, Max is feeling more than just the pain in his foot.
The Eagles are the best team in the NFC
I'll say it. Eagles is the best team in the NFC after today. They are... they're the best team in the NFC as of right now.
Speaking of those Lions, the shootout in Detroit was a Josh Allen masterclass. While the Bills look like they can score on every single possession, the Lions' mounting defensive injuries are becoming impossible to ignore as we head toward January.
The Lions' defense is going to be a very big problem in the playoffs
I think this is gonna be a very, very big problem getting into the playoffs. Like when they're in there playing a game where their defense, I, I feel like their defense hasn't gotten to stop in forever at this point. And it's just, it's a problem.
Out West, Sean Payton has officially pulled off the impossible with the Broncos. With $90 million in dead cap and a rookie quarterback, Denver is on the verge of its first winning season since 2016.
The Broncos are the best story in the NFL right now
The Broncos are one of the best stories in the NFL right now... they just secured their first winning season since 2016 and have a playoff probability north of 90%. They're the best story right now in the NFL.
Who's Back and Final Thoughts
We wrapped up the show with a bizarre check-in on LeBron James, whose recent mysterious absence from the Lakers left the internet spiraling. Hank found the lack of media coverage on the King's disappearance to be the strangest part of the whole ordeal.
LeBron James' absence was extremely odd and under-reported
He left the Lakers a few days ago... there was, you know, internet rumors circulating that he was maybe getting arrested. That he was disappearing... it was weird the way it was, you know, he left and with LeBron and the media, they, you know, will talk about him nonstop and it kind of got swept under the rug.
Max also walked us through the traumatic experience of breaking his foot after a few glasses of red wine, proving that even during a dominant Eagles win, there's always something for a Philly fan to suffer through.
Max might be on crutches, but the Eagles are sprinting toward the 1-seed.
