The PGA/LIV merger brings golf closer to a global circuit model similar to Formula One

If we look back on this in five years... we have this kind of white whale in our sport for a while of this global tour... we could have like a Formula One circuit where we've got events in LA and New York and Rome and Paris and Australia and Tokyo. We are closer to that. The DP World tour is also involved with this... so golf is probably going more global.

While the details of the merger are still being finalized, the PGA Tour has already significantly expanded its global footprint and partnership with international tours.

The PGA/LIV merger is a total victory for Saudi Arabia

The general reaction is that this is a win for the Saudis. What's a reaction from the players? You've got the LIV players. Taylor Gooch is on there tweeting a picture of his feet at a beach. Phil is dancing. This is a victory for them. They've wanted this all along.

The PIF successfully integrated with the PGA Tour, achieving significant influence over the sport's future.

If a sovereign wealth fund offered tennis a billion dollars for a 'PIF Tour,' tennis would accept it in a heartbeat

If some guy who controls some country's money says, oh, I want to give the NBA players a billion dollars... the PJ Tour set a hell of a precedent. A sport like tennis is a good, I think, example. Tennis is really great for the top 20 players, but there's not nearly as many players making a good living in tennis as there is in golf. If the Saudis came to tennis and said, here's a bunch of this money, let's make it the PIF tour, they would say yes in a heartbeat.

Since this take, the ATP and WTA have held major events in Saudi Arabia and the PIF has signed a 'strategic partnership' with the ATP, confirming the trend.

Jay Monahan and Rory McIlroy are the biggest losers of the LIV/PGA merger

The biggest losers in this, Jay Monahan number one, probably Rory McIlroy number two. Not because Rory's a bad guy, just because he was the most vocal. And Brandel Chamblee, because he really dug his feet in on the take. It's one of the saddest days in the history of professional golf.

McIlroy later expressed feeling like a sacrificial lamb, and Monahan's credibility was severely damaged among players.

Brooks Koepka is fully back and will deliver at the PGA Championship

I would say Brooks, I think Brooks is fully back. I know you guys are big Brooks guys. Just the way he played at the Masters, the way he looked at the Masters. He finally seems to be healthy... Major Brooks is back. I would be, I would not be surprised at all if he won it.

Brooks Koepka won the 2023 PGA Championship just days after this interview.

Patrick Cantlay will win his first major this week at the PGA Championship

The guy who I really liked this week who would be a bit of a snoozer champion is Patrick Cantlay. Oh, I feel like this, yeah, I know you guys didn't want to hear that, but stole Tiger's Caddy and I feel like he's gonna win his first major this week.

Cantlay did not win the 2023 PGA Championship; Brooks Koepka won.

John Rahm and Scottie Scheffler have separated themselves from the rest of the golf world

I do think that those two have separated themselves, but I think it's also, I think Rahm is the clear number one right now. I think Rahm is clear number one, Scottie is clear number two, and then there's a big gap between everyone else.

The 'Big Two' era of Rahm and Scheffler was a dominant storyline throughout early 2023.

Charlie Woods will eventually play as a professional golfer

I'll say yes. I think he will. He will be a pro. You know, being a pro in golf is not that difficult... But the spirit of the question obviously being Will he? Yeah, I think he'll make a run. I mean, all signs point to him being definitely like a division one level player and he'll get a chance.

Charlie Woods is still a teenager and currently playing high school and junior level golf.

Jason Day's ceiling is still historically high as his back issues have subsided

Jason Day who won last week... his ceiling is very high. People forget, but in 2016, Jason Day was, had a historically great year. His ceiling is very high. So two guys that are sort of outside the top five favorites, I would say Ricky Fowler and Jason Day.

Subjective opinion on a player's potential peak.
