The 90s Cowboys would have won five straight Super Bowls if Jimmy Johnson stayed

We often talk about we would've could've won five straight, [with Jimmy Johnson] but it didn't happen that way.

Counterfactual history that cannot be proven.

The Cowboys family dynamic, not just skill, is what's missing for a Super Bowl run

They've always had the skill. It's just I need the collective will. Those three years we went 12 and 5, we had a good enough team... They had the skill, it was just not the collective will when we got to the playoffs. Hopefully that comes together.

Subjective analysis of team chemistry.

George Pickens will be a phenomenal talent for the Cowboys playing with Dak Prescott

Phenomenal talent [George Pickens]... imagine what he must feel like Right now with a Dak Prescott at quarterback. Yeah.

Subjective evaluation of fit/talent.

Tony Pollard is the best running back of the weekend over Derrick Henry

Tony Pollard's number one, because he took 15 rushes to get 131 yards. It's not just the number of yards. It's also how many times did I touch the ball to get it? Derrick Henry, I think had 32 carries for 219 yards... Parlor, we can't run him 30 times. That's not him. But yes, I believe that he's a true playmaker.

Pollard averaged 8.7 YPC while Henry averaged 6.8 YPC that weekend. While Henry's volume was higher, Irvin's point on efficiency is factually supported for that specific window.

Odell Beckham Jr. would love to play for the Dallas Cowboys

I guarantee you I could tell you Odell would love to see Odell on the cowboy. Trust me. Trust me. I know Dale. Odell and I have had conversations about that a long time ago. Odell has to be in a place where the lights are bright. For him to be his best. You can't stick him in Cleveland. Put him in LA, put him in New York. You put him in Dallas where that light is bright.

OBJ flirted heavily with the Cowboys in 2022 but ultimately did not sign that season. He signed with the Ravens in 2023 and the Dolphins in 2024, never actually joining Dallas despite Irvin's 'guarantee'.

The Philadelphia Eagles are headed toward a dynasty

I was the first one to say that Philly is headed towards Dynasty. That's what I said this summer in Philly... if they had the right hand on the stairwell and the right hand on the center, if these hands work out, they can be doing something for quite a while.

The Eagles won Super Bowl LIX, beating the Chiefs 40-22 — their second Super Bowl appearance in three years. Not a dynasty yet, but trending in that direction.

Jalen Hurts is a top-tier leader in the same vein as Tom Brady

Dak is that's what, this is such a unique situation... but Jalen Hurts brings this, he brings this... what a hell of a great leader he is... you go from Carson Wentz, who's aloof and not a great leader to this dude Jalen Hurts.

Hurts led the Eagles to a Super Bowl appearance this season and was widely praised for his poise and leadership throughout the year.

The 2020 Dallas Cowboys offensive line injuries are unprecedented in NFL history

I don't think we've seen a team hit by injuries like the Dallas Cowboys. I don't know if ever in the history of the NFL. Your both offensive tackles—not just tackles, these two pro bowlers—gone. Your starting Pro Bowl Center retires on you. Then the second guy they look he goes and get hurt. Zack Martin was the only guy that was consistent and he's in and out of the lineup.

While many teams have suffered severe injuries, losing four out of five starters including three All-Pros is statistically among the worst O-line injury seasons in history.

Dak Prescott's leverage increases every time the Cowboys lose a game without him

Jerry every time you try somebody else out there, he's making me money. This is Dak sitting back at the table like let my leg get healed up, you give me my money... Watching the team go without him, his head has calmed down. He's saying right now, 'Yeah, my money. I'll be there.'

Dak Prescott eventually signed a massive 4-year, $160 million contract in March 2021, proving he had immense leverage.

A dynasty ends the moment a team stops expecting to win by 30 and starts wondering if they can win at all

I remember the moment the dynasty ended. Deion [Sanders] came to me and we were talking about something. I said to Deion, 'It's over.' We were not having that feeling where we walk in and say, 'How many points are we winning by?' Now we were going into these games saying, 'Okay, can we win these games?'

This is a psychological observation from a player who lived it; the Cowboys never returned to the Super Bowl after this period, validating his feeling.

Being an NFL media personality is more mentally exhausting than actually playing in the NFL

I get more tired at this than I did at playing... when the bodies are exhausted, the mind is still racing... But in this [media], when you're exhausted, you're exhausted here in the mind... the mind is shut down. I never was going to shut down after a long game on Sunday.

This is entirely subjective to Irvin's personal experience.
