Michael Irvin In Studio, NFL Trade Deadline, Nets Clown Show, 1 Question With Chase Daniel And Hot Seat/Cool Throne

Wednesday, November 2, 202216 takes

A crazy day in sports and we start with the Phillies going up 2-1 (-). NFL Trade deadline was insane with teams going all in and the Bears making trades for the future (-). Monday Night Football recap and College Football (-). Hot Seat/Cool Throne (-). Michael Irvin in studio to talk NFL, the White House and tons more (-). 1 Question with a Quarterback with Chase Daniel (-) and we finish with guys on chicks (-).

Michael Irvin on the 80s Cowboys, NFL Trade Deadline, and the Nets Circus

The Phillies are absolutely buzzing right now, taking a 2-1 lead in the World Series after a five-homer barrage against the Astros. Max is at a level of fanhood that might actually be dangerous for his health. PFT pointed out that Lance McCullers Jr. might as well have been telegraphing his pitches with a megaphone based on how the Phillies were jumping on everything.

Lance McCullers Jr. was tipping his pitches against the Phillies

Lance McCullers was tipping all of his pitches tonight. And you saw it from the start. Like Bryce [Harper], when he went yard, he told everybody in the Phillies dugout, he's like, This guy's tipping his pitches. A bunch of stuff went viral online where you could see like the high leg kick. You could see the back leg being straight and the Phillies hit all their home runs off sinkers curves, changeups things like that.

Post-game analysis and various experts confirmed McCullers was likely tipping his pitches based on his delivery mechanics.

While the World Series is heating up, the NFL trade deadline actually lived up to the hype for once. The Dolphins, Ravens, and Niners are making major moves to separate themselves from the pack, while the Broncos seem to have realized that the Russell Wilson experiment is currently a burning wreckage.

The Broncos have officially surrendered on the Russell Wilson era and are in rebuild mode

The Broncos like match being Russ Wilson. Like, they basically were like, fuck this. We're we suck... we have such regret on everything that took place that we need to get picks back as fast as possible.

The Broncos fired Nathaniel Hackett shortly after, but kept Wilson for another season before eventually cutting him in 2024, confirming the 'regret' took time to fully manifest.

Big Cat is officially back in on the Bears after they traded for Chase Claypool. It’s the ultimate "I have a guy" moment. Even if the organization’s history of ruining quarterbacks looms large, the commitment to Justin Fields is finally there, and Big Cat is ready to be hurt again.

Justin Fields is officially the guy for the Chicago Bears

The argument that everyone made in the off season that the Bears were ruining Justin Fields by not getting him anyone. You can't then complain that they went and got [Chase Claypool]. I got my guy, I'm feeling confident about having my guy. I have, I have a guy. He is the guy... he's officially the guy. Build around Justin Fields. Everything else doesn't matter.

Fields had a historic rushing season in 2022 but was eventually traded to the Steelers in 2024 after the Bears chose to draft Caleb Williams #1 overall, meaning he was ultimately not 'the guy' long-term for them.

In the NBA, the Brooklyn Nets continue to be the most entertaining dumpster fire in sports. Firing Steve Nash and immediately looking at Ime Udoka is the most Nets move possible. Big Cat isn't convinced that any coaching change can fix the fundamental rot in that locker room.

The Brooklyn Nets are fundamentally unfixable, even with Ime Udoka

I don't think you get to worry about the Nets. And I know that what a sucks that Ime's gone because he is a very good coach. But the Nets are not, I actually do not think they're fixable. I really don't.

The Nets eventually traded both KD and Kyrie mid-season, fully blowing up the team, proving Big Cat's 'unfixable' stance mostly correct.

Michael Irvin joined the show in studio and brought the kind of energy that makes you want to run through a brick wall before 10:00 AM. The Playmaker went deep on the legendary 90s Cowboys, explaining that the team's bond was forged in the fire of losing together before they started winning rings. He also weighed in on the current Cowboys backfield debate, giving the edge to Tony Pollard for his efficiency.

Tony Pollard is the best running back of the weekend over Derrick Henry

Tony Pollard's number one, because he took 15 rushes to get 131 yards. It's not just the number of yards. It's also how many times did I touch the ball to get it? Derrick Henry, I think had 32 carries for 219 yards... Parlor, we can't run him 30 times. That's not him. But yes, I believe that he's a true playmaker.

Pollard averaged 8.7 YPC while Henry averaged 6.8 YPC that weekend. While Henry's volume was higher, Irvin's point on efficiency is factually supported for that specific window.

Irvin also discussed the importance of team culture and why some stars need the big stage to truly shine. He knows Odell Beckham Jr. personally and believes the star receiver is looking for a spotlight that only a few franchises can provide, with Dallas being at the top of that list.

Odell Beckham Jr. would love to play for the Dallas Cowboys

I guarantee you I could tell you Odell would love to see Odell on the cowboy. Trust me. Trust me. I know Dale. Odell and I have had conversations about that a long time ago. Odell has to be in a place where the lights are bright. For him to be his best. You can't stick him in Cleveland. Put him in LA, put him in New York. You put him in Dallas where that light is bright.

OBJ flirted heavily with the Cowboys in 2022 but ultimately did not sign that season. He signed with the Ravens in 2023 and the Dolphins in 2024, never actually joining Dallas despite Irvin's 'guarantee'.

Transitioning to the college game, Tennessee’s rise has everyone drawing parallels to legendary teams of the past. PFT is fully bought into the Vols as a transformational force in the SEC, even comparing their current trajectory to the greatest team he's ever seen.

The 2022 Tennessee Volunteers are identical to 2019 LSU

I think that this Tennessee team is extremely close, if not almost identical to the LSU team in 2019. So far... they're comparing favorably and I think the comparisons are there for Hendon Hooker and Joe Burrow too. Both super old guys that stuck around.

2019 LSU went undefeated and won the National Title. 2022 Tennessee lost to Georgia and South Carolina, failing to make the playoff, making this comparison hyperbolic.

We wrapped up with a very lucrative "One Question with a Quarterback" featuring Chase Daniel. The guys did the math on Chase's career earnings per completion, and the numbers are truly staggering. He’s the undisputed GOAT of the backup lifestyle, even if he’s too humble to admit it.

Kirk Cousins and the Vikings will not win the Super Bowl

I'm not going back. I've been on this take. They're not winning the Super Bowl. We will be right. I've been on this take for six years. My take on Kirk Cousins has not wavered and it never will.

The Vikings lost in the Wild Card round to the Giants, proving PFT right about them not winning the Super Bowl.

If the Phillies win the World Series on Thursday, keep an eye on the Philadelphia light poles because Max is definitely going up one way or another.

The Dolphins, Ravens, and 49ers are now officially 'all in' for the 2022 season

The Miami Dolphins have joined the ranks of the Baltimore Ravens and the San Francisco 49ers... I'm gonna say that those three teams especially are all in right now.

The Dolphins and 49ers made deep playoff runs (49ers to the NFCCG), while the Ravens were competitive but hampered by Lamar Jackson's injury.

Jeff Wilson Jr. is the sneaky best move of the NFL trade deadline

I actually think Jeff Wilson is like the sneaky best move of the day because you have a running back who knows the Shanahan system who can now run Mike McDaniel's system. Like that was, that's one of those ones where it just, it's under the radar because there are bigger names.

Wilson had a productive rest of the season for Miami, including a big role in the offense, validating the 'sneaky' fit.

Justin Fields might still fail in Chicago because the Bears organization is capable of ruining him

Justin Fields might not pan out because the Bears might ruin him, but he is the guy... I believe I told myself me and my guy are gonna live forever.

Fields was eventually traded to the Steelers in 2024 after the Bears decided to draft Caleb Williams, suggesting the Bears indeed failed to build around him successfully.

LSU is the greatest college football team of all time

I mean [2019 LSU] were probably the best college football team of all time. Yeah. Yeah.

Subjective historical debate, though 2019 LSU is a common choice for this title.

Frank Reich is about to be fired by the Indianapolis Colts

The real answer is Frank Reich is, the walls are closing in on him because he's had the vote of confidence and the firing of the OC. It's like the most sure sign a coach is getting fired.

Frank Reich was fired by the Colts on November 7, 2022, just five days after this episode aired.

Anything done during the pandemic should be forgiven (Pandemic Amnesty)

My cool throne is pandemic amnesty. Turns out anything you do during the pandemic, we're all gonna forget about and forgive each other. I think anything should be forgiven. Like anything. No, but whatever it was, forgive me for it.

This is entirely a subjective matter of social opinion.

The Philadelphia Eagles are headed toward a dynasty

I was the first one to say that Philly is headed towards Dynasty. That's what I said this summer in Philly... if they had the right hand on the stairwell and the right hand on the center, if these hands work out, they can be doing something for quite a while.

The Eagles won Super Bowl LIX, beating the Chiefs 40-22 — their second Super Bowl appearance in three years. Not a dynasty yet, but trending in that direction.

Jalen Hurts is a top-tier leader in the same vein as Tom Brady

Dak is that's what, this is such a unique situation... but Jalen Hurts brings this, he brings this... what a hell of a great leader he is... you go from Carson Wentz, who's aloof and not a great leader to this dude Jalen Hurts.

Hurts led the Eagles to a Super Bowl appearance this season and was widely praised for his poise and leadership throughout the year.
