The Giants will likely start a rookie quarterback early in the season to save their jobs

If they get Cam Ward or Shedeur or somebody like that and they wait around for four weeks into the regular season and he doesn't look great in practice, they're going to be more likely to be like, fuck it, let's just pull the emergency start rookie quarterback lever so that we can save our own job.

The Giants started rookie Jaxson Dart in Week 4, early in the season, after going 0-3 with Russell Wilson. Dart was drafted 25th overall and took over as the starter.

The Giants GM and coach will overspend in free agency to save their jobs in 2025

What is the GM gonna do? He's probably gonna spend as much money as he possibly can at in free agency... now you have the coach and GM in their Hot Seat years. Gonna just try to spend as much money as possible and hope that that keeps their job.

The Giants were aggressive in free agency, signing defensive backs and making trades. Brian Daboll was fired midseason after a 2-8 start, while GM Joe Schoen was retained. They did spend in free agency but the results were still bad (4-13 record).

Mike McCarthy is a better head coaching hire than Ben Johnson because McCarthy is a proven winner

Mike McCarthy has at least proven himself as a head coach. There's been many examples of stud offensive coordinators not working on his head coaches. You have a better chance of doing [well] with Mike McCarthy than Ben Johnson. I'm not even joking about that. I'd rather take a proven winner.

This is subjective, but comparing a Super Bowl winner to an unproven coordinator is a standard football debate.

I don't want Mike McCarthy to be the Bears coach, but I'm probably going to end up with him

I don't want Mike McCarthy, but I'm probably gonna end up with him. [The Bears] are interviewing a hundred people just so that Ryan Poles can hire the guy he played college football with.

The Bears did not hire Mike McCarthy; they hired Thomas Brown as OC later and retained Eberflus as HC (though Eberflus was eventually fired and the search continued). Actually, at this point in Jan 2025, the Bears search is ongoing.

Winter is officially over and next week will be golf weather

I think it's the official end of winter. Winter's done. Next week it's gonna be 60. Get the golf shoes out, get the shorts out. We made it another year of winter in Chicago.

This is a short-term weather prediction that would be resolvable within a week of the episode date.

Nebraska will finally get their first NCAA tournament win this year

I do think this is the year Nebraska gets their win. I think they have to. They're gonna be like minus 300 in the first round, minus 400. They gotta win.

Nebraska's first-round game in the 2026 tournament will determine if this is correct.

This year's Final Four will determine if Tom Izzo is overrated

I think it just feels like it's Izzo. He's gonna go out in the Final Four. He's gonna get there. This is for whether or not he's overrated or not. I will admit that I was wrong... if they make it to this Final Four.

If Michigan State makes the Final Four, PFT will concede his long-standing take.
