The Shohei Ohtani investigation will take a long time to resolve because of federal involvement

I think it's gonna be a long time... This is such a tiny little speck of a much larger investigation that's going on right now into this alleged illegal gambling ring in Southern California.

Actually incorrect; the investigation moved surprisingly fast, with Ippei Mizuhara being charged by federal authorities and pleading guilty by early May 2024, less than two months later.

Paige Bueckers might be my women's basketball GOAT

Paige Bueckers might be my goat. Yeah. We love women more than any other podcast in America.

Highly subjective and early in her career, but she is an all-time great.

UConn will beat Iowa because Gino Auriemma has a better game plan for Caitlin Clark

I actually, I think UConn's gonna beat [Iowa] though, because I think Gino, like, if you watch the second game, Gino had a game plan for Juju Watkins that Kim Mulkey just didn't have for Caitlin.

Iowa beat UConn 71-69 in the Final Four on April 5, 2024.

Quarters are a better format for basketball than halves

I think I like the format of the women's game better. The quarters. I like the quarters. fouls reset... my one knock against the NCAA tournament on the men's side, is that down the stretch... it just turns into a foul fest.

This is a subjective preference for basketball formatting.

MLB has the best trade deadline in sports by a mile

I believe it was 42 [trades] on Deadline Day alone. And baseball's... I don't think the NFL's trade deadline day is anything like this. The NBA's usually has at least a few big moves. But to me, baseball has the best trade deadline by a mile, even if it's a bunch of jobbers who are going back and forth.

Subjective comparison of sporting event excitement levels.

Sports fans should value winning right now over potential future gratification

We've been conditioned as sports fans... to accept that now is not as important as the future. And I hate that. I hate that as a sports fan. I want executives and owners to treat this year like it's the last year that's going to be played. I want them to have reckless abandon trying to go for a championship right now. Because we don't know what the future's going to look like.

This is a philosophy on sports management.

The Orioles' trade of Adley Rutschman was a reset, not a rebuild, and they 'crushed' the deal

I think this is more reset than rebuild though... to ship him away, it's painful. Getting back Anthony Sasson and Kaizen Witherspoon and Andy Zakar and Carlos Nevas, like they crushed that deal. The Red Sox understood they were overpaying significantly.

The long-term impact of the trade will take years to fully evaluate.
