Jay Cutler on Retirement, Suns in 4 Guy, and Will Compton’s NFL FAQ
Kevin Durant just submitted his application for the basketball gods to officially recognize his greatness, and Big Cat is ready to sign off on the paperwork. Following a 49-17-10 masterpiece against the Bucks, the guys spent the morning debating where KD sits in the pantheon of the greats.
Kevin Durant's legacy as a top 25 player of all time is now cemented
That 2010 to 2020... that was him cementing himself as, okay, you're a top 50 player of all time. Now, you know, you're a top 25 player of all time. Now, this decade... Sky's the limit. This is where his legacy is made and it started tonight [with 49-17-10].
While the Nets look like a juggernaut when KD is in "Easy Money Sniper" mode, the Bucks aren't dead yet. Despite Giannis being a serial violator of the 10-second free throw rule, the series feels like it’s destined for a dramatic finish back in Brooklyn.
The Bucks will win Game 6 and force a Game 7 against the Nets
I do think the Bucks are going to win game six. I think it's going to go seven.
Speaking of the Bucks, PFT has some radical ideas for how to fix the free throw shooting woes of Giannis and Ben Simmons. He thinks the solution isn't just practicing more; it's changing the very geometry of the game itself by exploiting the air.
NBA players should be allowed to jump from the free throw line and lay the ball in mid-air because 'airspace' shouldn't count
I'm an advocate for laying the ball into the basket before you hit the ground. Air doesn't count, man. Airspace does not count in basketball. It's where your foot is... It's almost physically impossible to do, but it's not impossible.
Hot Seat, Cool Throne and Major League Incompetence
Hot Seat, Cool Throne was a rollercoaster this week. We touched on Batman’s inability to satisfy his partners according to DC, but the real heat was on MLB and Commissioner Rob Manfred. The mid-season crackdown on sticky substances has already led to injuries and massive frustration across the league.
MLB is incompetent for banning sticky substances in the middle of the season
The spider attack controversy that they knew about forever and decided, hey, we're going to now start punishing people. They went zero tolerance policy... Tyler Glasnow... is basically saying he got injured because of it... Good job, MLB. You really fucking did it again, you idiots.
PFT turned his sights toward the golf world, specifically the ongoing drama between Brooks Koepka and Bryson DeChambeau. After reports surfaced that the US Open tried to pair the two rivals together only for Bryson to decline, PFT didn't hold back on why he thinks the pairing didn't happen.
Bryson DeChambeau turned down playing with Brooks Koepka because he's a pussy
It's my understanding as a reporter that Bryson [DeChambeau] actively turned it down because he's a pussy and Batman wouldn't eat him.
And finally, in Chicago, the Bears are doing Bears things again. Matt Nagy naming Andy Dalton as the starter before the first snap of training camp has the city in a state of confusion, especially with a talent like Justin Fields waiting in the wings.
The Bears naming Andy Dalton QB1 with no competition is stupid
Only the Bears. Only Matt Nagy would name his QB one before you even have training camp... What I'm not okay with is being like, there's no competition. Every successful football team ever basically is like, yeah, it's always a competition.
Jay Cutler and the Art of the Gunslinger
Our good friend and former QB1 Jay Cutler joined us from the Bahamas to talk about his new meat line, Cuts, and life after the NFL. Jay remains one of the most fascinating guys to talk to because he simply does not care what people think of him. He walked us through his favorite career plays, including a rookie year laser against the Cardinals and a memorable high school touchdown catch.
We also talked about his former NFC North rival Matthew Stafford heading to the Rams. Jay thinks the move to LA is exactly what Stafford needs to finally get the respect he deserves.
Matthew Stafford will 'blow it up' with the Rams because of the superior coaching and play-calling in Los Angeles
I think [Stafford] is going to blow it up. Coaching staff's good. He's going to have some of the best play calling he's ever had in his life. And he's still talented. Dude can throw it. He's competitive.
Big Cat took it a step further, arguing that Stafford’s longevity and eventual statistical totals make him more than just a good player.
Matthew Stafford is a future Hall of Famer
I think [Stafford] is a future Hall of Famer. People get mad at me for that. But... if he plays for another, I don't know, four or five years, he will be, like numbers-wise, up there with everyone else.
Suns in 4 and The Boy Will Compton
Nick McKellar, better known as the "Suns in 4" guy, joined the show to recap his legendary viral moment in Denver. After being sucker-punched by two Nuggets fans, Nick stood his ground, delivered a few clean uppercuts, and predicted the sweep while being escorted out. He’s now a hero in Phoenix and even has Devin Booker looking for him.
The Phoenix Suns will beat the Clippers in four games if they meet in the Western Conference Finals
If it does go to Clippers versus Suns, I think we have a real chance of Suns in four again.
We wrapped up the show with the boy, Will Compton. Will joined us in studio to answer some NFL FAQs and clear the air about his time in Washington. While former executive Bruce Allen once claimed the culture was "damn good," Will provided the perspective of a guy who was actually in the building.
The internal culture of the Washington Football Team under Bruce Allen was not 'damn good'
Sure, you can watch that clip when [Bruce Allen] says the culture's damn good, but our culture wasn't damn good. It just is what it is... Top floor, bottom floor, all of it, it wasn't that good.
Will is currently a free agent, and while he’s enjoying life on the bus, he’s ready to jump back into the league if the right opportunity presents itself. Even if that means returning to the chaos of Dan Snyder’s organization.
I would absolutely sign with the Washington Football Team again because the money is great
Oh, absolutely [I would go back to the Washington Football team if they gave me a contract]. Undercover. Money's still great... I loved that locker room. Obviously, it's not the same locker room, but there's a lot of moving parts in an organization to make a culture bad. But, yeah, absolutely, I would play for the boys again.
If the NFL doesn't call soon, we're officially petitioning for Will to become the full-time glue guy for an MLB bench just to keep the vibes high.
