Daniel Jeremiah and Chris Finch on NFL Draft and NBA Playoffs
The vibes are immaculate because it is officially the best week on the sports calendar. Wall-to-wall playoff basketball and hockey coupled with the NFL Draft means nobody is sleeping until May. Big Cat and PFT kick things off by reacting to a Game 1 weekend that had everything from massive blowouts to Russell Westbrook doing things that only Russell Westbrook can do.
NBA Playoff Fever
The Pacers and Bucks kicked things off, and while Giannis was piling up stats, the rest of the Bucks looked like they were already checking Zillow for vacation homes. Big Cat isn't just worried about the series; he's worried about the long-term outlook in Milwaukee. Beyond the scoreboard, he’s also leading the charge against the fashion choices of modern playoff teams.
NBA teams should not wear alternate or city edition jerseys in the playoffs
I think that you shouldn't wear your alternate jerseys. Especially like, I think those are the city version for the Pacers in the playoffs. Because someday you will look back and if like the Pacers go to the NBA finals and they have a historic run in 20 years from now, you'll be like, man, I wish they were wearing the old school like pin stripes.
Giannis Antetokounmpo will ask for a trade out of Milwaukee
I feel like the bucks are just kind of a bummer now. 'cause I, I, I like Giannis... and maybe honest in in Milwaukee... Probably. He might, he might ask out. I don't know.
Over in the West, the Nuggets and Clippers gave us the Russell Westbrook Experience in its purest form. He was grabbing offensive rebounds, hitting clutch threes, and then immediately jumping into the air with no plan like a glitching video game character. Big Cat found the perfect analogy for the Russ chaos.
Russell Westbrook is the Mario Kart item box of basketball players
Russell Westbrook truly is the item box for Mario Kart. If you watched the last three minutes of Russell Westbrook, haters and lovers could both say 'I told you so.' Awesome play, bad play, awesome play, bad play. If you ever ask what if someone tried just the absolute hardest, that's Russell Westbrook.
The Oklahoma City T-Shirt Scandal
There is a major controversy brewing in Oklahoma City that has nothing to do with the actual basketball team. A season-ticket holder named Juan has been spotted refusing to wear the giveaway playoff shirts, opting instead to peacock in the front row. PFT respects the hustle and the constitutional right to be a non-conformist, but Big Cat sees a dark omen for the franchise.
The Thunder will lose a home game specifically because one front-row fan refuses to wear the giveaway shirt
I'll tell you what, the Thunder are going to lose a playoff game at home in this run, and it's because this guy's not wearing the shirt. You look out, there's this intimidating crowd, everyone's wearing the shirt, and that guy's not wearing the shirt. He's peacocking out there.
While the guys argued about laundry, Hank stayed firmly entrenched in his belief that the Celtics are inevitable. Max tried to point out that the path through the West is a meat grinder compared to the East, but Hank isn't hearing it. He’s already counting the rings and setting the line on how few games the Celtics will actually drop on their way back to the Finals.
The Celtics are a lock to repeat as NBA champions if they stay healthy
This team is better than the team last year that won the championship. And if they stay healthy, they will repeat. That is my wholehearted belief... I'm happy that we, it's called confidence.
The Celtics will lose fewer than three games total before the NBA Finals
I would say two and a half. I mean, I would take the under, I would set the line at two and a half. I personally take the under.
Daniel Jeremiah Previews the Draft
Friend of the program Daniel Jeremiah joins the show for his annual draft week breakdown. This year’s class might not have the same elite QB buzz as 2024, but DJ thinks there is plenty of value if you know where to look. He’s especially high on the depth of the running back class and has a very specific landing spot in mind for Michigan’s Colston Loveland.
The 2025 NFL Draft class is full of starters but lacks true star power
I've just been saying it's starters not stars... last year we had six quarterbacks... and this year when you've got, you know, Cam Ward seems locked in at one, Travis Hunter seems locked in at two... there's not really that juice there at the top.
Colston Loveland to the Chargers is a near-lock for Jim Harbaugh
I think every night [Jim Harbaugh] is going to bed with Colston Loveland's picture, like on the wall and he just stares at it and is like, this is going to happen. I believe it. He will be here.
DJ also broke down the Travis Hunter dilemma, suggesting that the Colorado star might actually be better suited to a different primary role than most scouts think. To wrap things up, the guys asked DJ to designate their official sleeper of the draft, and he delivered a name that Dolphins fans should keep an eye on.
Travis Hunter will be more impactful as a Wide Receiver than a Cornerback in the NFL
I think everybody I've talked to has a plan to major in minor... I think he's ready, he's more impactful as a receiver right now. And so I, to me, I think that's where you start him... I think he is right now ready to go. There's a ton of ways we can get the ball in his hands and I just think he impacts the game more on offense.
Dylan Gabriel is the 'Mr. PMT' sleeper quarterback of the draft
I would go with Dylan Gabriel... he's five 11, he's older, but he's got a, he's got a really strong arm. I've kind of advocated if you're the Dolphins and I know they brought over Zach Wilson. Yeah, but that'd be a, I mean, shoot, just bring him in there. If you can get him in the third, fourth round, knowing Tua is more than likely to miss some games.
Chris Finch on the Timberwolves' Rise
Timberwolves head coach Chris Finch stopped by to talk about the evolution of Anthony Edwards and what it’s like trying to coach against the offensive wizardry of players like Luka Doncic. Finch discussed the tactical adjustments required for the postseason and how having a veteran like Joe Ingles helps the team prepare for whatever looks a defense might throw at them.
Joe Ingles is an unbelievable pick-and-roll player and an essential preparation tool for the Timberwolves
Joe [Ingles] is extremely intelligent. He is an unbelievable pick-and-roll player. He understands like all the different coverages that a team would try to employ and he can understand how to try to manipulate that or take advantage of it. He hasn't been on court as much as we thought... but he can bring that to our preparation.
Anthony Edwards has an incredible instinct for knowing exactly when to take over a game
Since I've got here, [Anthony Edwards] has always had this incredible sense for the moment within a game of like knowing when to take over and it could be defensively too. He gets on these mini runs and he could turn a quarter or turn a game around in a heartbeat. He's way more thinking the game than he had early on.
One thing remains clear: whether they are winning by 20 or trailing by 20, everything for Minnesota starts with their anchor in the middle. Finch isn't letting anyone underrate what Rudy Gobert brings to the floor every night.
Rudy Gobert's defensive value to the Timberwolves cannot be overestimated
Rudy Gobert is just so impactful on both sides of the ball. I think, you know, Rudy is a very polarizing player in the league, but, having been with him now for three years, like he just, his value cannot be overestimated. It's just so important to everything that we do.
Between the draft rumors and the playoff intensity, just remember: if your team wins by 50 in Game 1, the series should probably be legally over. See you on Wednesday.
