NFL Week 12: Cowboys Comeback, Bears 8-3, and the Jameis Experience
Week 12 in the NFL was absolute chaos, and the guys are here to sort through the wreckage. From double-digit favorites nearly falling in the early window to a massive Kelly Green-tinted collapse in Dallas, the playoff picture is getting crowded and weird. Big Cat is walking around at a nine-and-a-half on the excitement scale as his Bears hit 8-3, while Max is slowly dissolving into a puddle of Kelly Green misery after the Eagles blew a 21-point lead.
The Chiefs Stay Alive and the Colts Choke
The Chiefs were on the brink of death, down 20-9 in the fourth quarter at Arrowhead. But Patrick Mahomes did Mahomes things, and Harrison Butker was perfect on the day to keep their season breathing. While Big Cat noted the Chiefs defense really stepped up to shut down Jonathan Taylor, Hank wasn't as impressed with the opposition.
The Colts are frauds who choked their game against the Chiefs
If you're not a fraud, this is a game you win. [The Colts] are frauds. That was their game to lose and they choked.
Indy ran 12 plays in the fourth quarter and overtime without gaining a single first down. It was a masterclass in offensive stagnation that might have officially put the "fraud" label on Shane Steichen's squad despite their eight wins.
The Jameis Winston Experience and Jahmyr Gibbs
Lions vs. Giants was easily the most entertaining game of the day. Jameis Winston was back in his bag, throwing for over 300 yards and a touchdown that included a spin move and a stiff arm that felt like a fever dream. PFT remains convinced that the Giants' season was sabotaged from within long before this game started.
Brian Daboll should be court-martialed for starting Russell Wilson over Jameis Winston
I keep saying this and every week I keep getting more vindicated for the fact that Brian Daboll should be [court-martialed] for starting Russell Wilson. It made no sense at the time. It makes even less sense now. Jameis Winston... is at 20.3 yards per completion.
Despite Jameis making the Giants look like a competent offense for the first time in years, they couldn't stop the human highlight reel that is Jahmyr Gibbs. Big Cat is doubling down on his claim that Gibbs is the premier back in the league.
Jahmyr Gibbs is the best running back in the NFL
I think I'm fine with just saying Jahmyr Gibbs is the best running back because when he gets into open field, there's just no—he looks like he's making other NFL players look slow.
Even with the Lions winning in overtime, the Jameis performance was the talk of the show. He’s fearless, he takes shots, and he’s the only quarterback in the league who can make a 10-point lead feel like a 50-point deficit and a comeback all at once.
Jameis Winston is a starting quarterback in this league
This should prove that Jameis Winston should be a starting quarterback in the NFL. There are so many bad games that we watch and bad quarterback play that we watch. Jameis Winston is not. Yes, sometimes he throws interceptions. Yes, sometimes he makes mistakes. He is so much fun.
The 8-3 Chicago Bears and the "Iceman"
Big Cat is officially a believer. The Bears took down the Steelers 31-28 in a game where Caleb Williams looked like he’s finally turning the corner. Even with the defense banged up and missing all three starting linebackers, the Bears found a way to win.
The Bears can compete with anyone in the NFL right now
I also think the Bears can compete with anyone at this point. And they've got a belief that they are not gonna blink when those tough moments come.
People are pointing to the Bears' negative point differential, but Big Cat doesn't care about the nerds and their spreadsheets. They’re finding ways to win close games, and with the Eagles coming to town on Black Friday, the stakes have never been higher for the North.
Afternoon Heartbreak and the Best Team in the NFL
Max started the afternoon as the "Small Talk King," asking everyone about their weekend plans while the Eagles were up 21-0. By the end of the fourth quarter, he was contorted into a baby-like form on the floor as Dak Prescott and George Pickens tore the secondary apart. PFT thinks the Cowboys might actually be a problem if they can just keep the defense at a mediocre level.
The Cowboys are a very scary playoff team if their defense remains average
If the Cowboys can have that average defense, they can be a very, very scary team. 'Cause the offense is not going anywhere. Dak is playing maybe the best that he is ever played throughout his career.
While the NFC East battles itself, the Rams went to Tampa Bay and absolutely dismantled the Bucs. It wasn't even a contest. Matthew Stafford was throwing no-look passes and looking like he’s playing a different sport than everyone else.
The Rams are currently the best team in the NFL
The Rams are the best TEAM IN THE NFL. Does anyone disagree? I don't know who would make the case for any other team right now. They're just destroying people.
Big Cat is ready to give Stafford the hardware right now. The Rams look like the most complete unit in football, especially with the way that defensive front is hunting.
Who's Back and College Chaos
Wrapping things up with Who's Back, Big Cat is riding high on the Badgers after another big home win, claiming they are the team nobody wants to see in November.
Wisconsin is the hottest team in college football right now
Wisconsin's hottest team in the country. Two back. They've won two home games against ranked opponents in November. Pretty cool.
Meanwhile, the coaching carousel is spinning faster than a Jameis Winston dropback. PFT has a hunch that Lane Kiffin might be looking for a new zip code after all the flight-tracking drama in Oxford.
Lane Kiffin will leave Ole Miss to coach LSU
I feel like it's gotten the point where you, if I had to guess I would say LSU. [Lane Kiffin] is probably gonna leave. I'm changing my, I know I said like two weeks ago I didn't think he was gonna leave.
It's a massive week ahead with three Thanksgiving games and the Bears-Eagles showdown on Black Friday, so stay hydrated and get your Psalm spreads ready.
See you on Wednesday for the extra-long Thanksgiving preview.
