Scott Van Pelt on the Masters, Scottie Scheffler’s Legacy, and NBA Playoff Previews
Scottie Scheffler just treated the field at Augusta National like a Sunday at the local municipal course, and Big Cat and PFT are left wondering if anyone can actually stop this man. Despite the wind trying its hardest to keep the pack close on Friday and Saturday, Scottie showed up on Sunday and reminded everyone why he's the undisputed best in the world.
Big Cat is already looking ahead to the rest of the major season, specifically Pinehurst.
Scottie Scheffler will win the 2024 U.S. Open with his new baby
All that means is he's gonna have the kid and then he's definitely gonna win the US open 100% with a new baby. That's gonna be the picture. That's him holding his new baby on the tee or on the green of the 18th hole. The US Open wherever. Oh, it's Pinehurst, right? Yep. It is Pinehurst.
While Scottie was busy securing his second green jacket, Ludvig Åberg introduced himself to the world in a massive way. Even though he found the water on Sunday, the guys are convinced we’re looking at the next great superstar in the sport.
Ludvig Åberg will win multiple major championships in his lifetime
Oberg will win. I'm calling my shot. Oh, yeah, [Åberg] is gonna win multiple major championships in his lifetime. But Scottie was just too good.
Scott Van Pelt Joins From Augusta
Our good friend Scott Van Pelt joined the show live from the airport in Georgia, thankfully without any reports of his house being on fire this year. SVP broke down what makes Scottie so different from other greats like Tiger or Brady, noting that his perspective on life is what actually makes him more dangerous on the course.
Scottie Scheffler's dominance is sustainable because he has no vices and a strong perspective on life
The genius of Scottie is he's like, 'I'm real good with whatever this is and I'm not trying to change any of it.' ... Presuming he stays healthy, I think he'll just keep just obliterating people... he just doesn't seem to have vices or things that that could get in the way of any of it.
SVP also touched on the Verne Lundquist farewell, which was a heavy theme throughout the weekend. PFT had a specific vision for how the legend should spend his retirement during future Masters weekends.
Verne Lundquist should do a 'ManningCast' style broadcast for the Masters starting next year
Verne needs to do like a ManningCast thing next year at the Masters where it's just Verne sitting in his living room... with that big smile on his face.
Before letting him go, SVP weighed in on the Bryson DeChambeau 3D-printed club drama and the general state of the game. He's over the division between the tours and thinks the fans are right there with him.
Fans do not care about the LIV vs. PGA Tour drama anymore and the game just needs to be unified
No one gives a shit about this LIV stuff at this point. Golf just needs to get back together... I think everyone kind of just understands that it's better when everyone plays. It's fun to see [Rahm] and Brooks and Bryson and Cam Smith... you wanna see 'em all play together 'cause that means the best in the world are together.
UFC 300 and Who’s Back
UFC 300 delivered one of the most insane moments in combat sports history when Max Holloway pointed to the center of the octagon and decided to trade haymakers with Justin Gaethje with ten seconds left. It was the kind of finish that makes you forget about a mediocre undercard. PFT has a plan to make every fight end with that kind of intensity.
UFC overtime should consist of a five-foot octagon where fighters punch each other until someone wins
That should be overtime in all the UFCs just stand, they they shrink the octagon. Yeah. and just like five feet in diameter, just stand in there and punch each other until somebody wins.
For Who's Back of the Week, Big Cat jumped on the Nestor Cortes bandwagon. The Yankees lefty threw a fake-motion pitch that sent baseball twitter into a complete tailspin, and if it makes the traditionalists mad, the guys are all in.
Nestor Cortes' fake pitch is awesome because of how much it bothers baseball traditionalists
I'm Now on Cortez's side. All right. I Now think it's an awesome pitch. I didn't [know] it made people that mad. So, I mean, there's no way this is actually like a strategy that could like [work]... I Now think it's an awesome pitch. If it makes people mad, that rules.
NBA Playoff Predictions and Draft Talk
With the NBA play-in tournament set, the guys went through their brackets with varying levels of delusion. Hank is already planning the Celtics' championship parade, while Big Cat is looking at the Eastern Conference through a very specific Sixers-colored lens.
The Sixers will beat the Heat, the Knicks, and the Bucks in the 2024 NBA playoffs
I like the Sixers to beat the heat. I also like the Sixers to beat the Knicks Ooh. And then I like the Sixers to beat the Bucks. I do actually like that the Knicks like tried because I think that there you should, you should have some pride and be like, we're not ducking anyone.
In the West, everyone is chasing the Nuggets, but PFT is keeping an eye on a potential first-round upset involving the Orlando Magic.
The Orlando Magic will beat the Cleveland Cavaliers in the first round of the NBA playoffs
I like the magic in the first round. Ooh little small upset there over the Cavs.
Finally, with the NFL Draft just around the corner, Hank is still banging the drum for the Patriots to pass on a quarterback in favor of a generational weapon. Big Cat and PFT are skeptical, but they’re ready for the era of elite quarterback play to hit both Chicago and New England simultaneously.
The Patriots should draft Marvin Harrison Jr. instead of a quarterback
I'm still down for Marvin Harrison Jr. No one... [Bailey] Zappe's there. Yeah. There's plenty of fine quarterbacks out there. You have a franchise wide receiver who's a stud and can actually make things happen with a perfectly fine Jacoby Brissett.
Both the Bears and the Patriots will have elite franchise quarterbacks for the next 15 years
Talk to me in two weeks when I get Caleb Williams... statistically speaking, we're both gonna have elite quarterbacks. Really good. Yeah. It's gonna be like five of the next six [Super Bowls] gonna be incredible. Yeah, it's gonna be like Seahawks 49ers. Yeah. Going back and forth.
It’s a great time to be a sports fan, unless you’re a mushroom in a Las Vegas casino with Big Cat nearby.
