Bryce Young has the talent to succeed in the NFL given the right offensive system

I saw Bryce win the national championship with, with maybe better players than he is playing with now... he can do it. He's shown he can do it in the right system. His stature scared me... there weren't any braces. There weren't any Johnny Manzes at that size and stature that made it in the NFL.

Bryce Young had his best NFL season in 2025 with 3,011 yards, 23 TDs, and led the Panthers to an 8-9 division title and playoff berth, showing the talent Arians described when given the right system under Dave Canales.

Anthony Richardson is currently more of an athlete than a quarterback because he lacks consistency in the pocket

Anthony's stats didn't match. His ability and, and all, all ability doesn't make a quarterback. Now. You gotta be, you gotta win two minute, third down. I don't give a shit how fast you run. How high you jump... if you can't show me that you can do that in college, that to me, you're not a quarterback, you're an athlete... And he didn't exactly tear people up in college. You know, it was just combine superstar.

Arians' critique of Richardson's college production and pro readiness matches his current benching for Joe Flacco.

Lamar Jackson was a more accurate passer coming out of college than Michael Vick

Lamar can spin it coming outta college. It was a little bit raw, but when I look at him and Michael Vick, I thought he spun it more accurately than Mike did coming out. Now Mike got better Lamar's Lamar's there now.

Lamar's passing statistics and MVP awards generally support the idea that he became a more polished passer than Vick, though college comparison is subjective.

Brock Purdy is not just a system quarterback

I don't think [Brock Purdy] is a system quarterback, but not necessarily could he play in other offenses that push it way down the field. He's in the perfect thing with Kyle [Shanahan]... It's a great marriage.

Subjective debate about the definition of a 'system quarterback.'

Andrew Luck is the ultimate quarterback prospect, possessing every top-tier trait

If I was gonna build all of [the QBs I've coached] into one, it'd be Andrew Luck. 'cause he had everything that they all had, you know, he had a photographic memory. He was as athletic stuff was off the charts, same as Cam Newton's. His, his recall was like Ben and Tom. His preparation was like Ben and Tom and Ben, Tom and Peyton.

Subjective ranking from a coach who worked with all of them.

Rumors of friction with Tom Brady were completely false

It was a big one [the rumor of friction]. It's nothing could be further from the truth. We have a great relationship... Tom, he's asking more questions and I throw him in the golf cart and he's old enough and I can drive him off the field.

While media speculation persisted, Arians consistently denied it. Short of a confession, his word is the primary source.

Tom Brady is throwing the ball better at age 45 than he did two years ago

He's throwing better now. It's crazy... he's got great mechanics. He's one of those full body throwers. He's not using all just arm. Tom, he's an amazing human being... he's throwing the ball better and I've ever seen him throw it.

Brady did lead the league in passing yards and TDs in the prior season (2021).

Tom Brady and Peyton Manning would be too demanding to be successful NFL head coaches

[Tom Brady] will do great [in the booth]... [But] he'd be way too demanding [as a head coach]. Really. Since they working for Peyton, I mean they're workaholics man. They're workaholics.

Neither has become a head coach, so the take remains a matter of expert opinion.

Andrew Luck was the best quarterback I ever coached, even just as a rookie

Andrew Luck. Number one. Really? I only had him as a rookie, but he was unbelievable. Skilled wise is off the chart, but mentally he was right there with Peyton and Andrew and Tom.

High praise from a credible source, though inherently subjective.

Andrew Luck is the only quarterback I've ever coached who hits as hard as a linebacker after throwing an interception

He was taking a beating and again, tough as nails. I mean he's the only linebacker—he's the only quarterback that throws an interception and hits as hard as the linebacker. Yeah. Cause he's pissed off.

This is an expert evaluation based on personal coaching experience.

Patrick Mahomes' mental processing was on the same elite level as Peyton Manning, Andrew Luck, and Tom Brady coming out of college

I thought for sure when we're in Arizona, we're getting Patrick Mahomes... skill wise is off the chart. But mentally he was right there with Peyton and Andrew and Tom. I mean, he's like sharp, right? I mean, just really sharp.

Mahomes has gone on to win multiple MVPs and Super Bowls, proving Arians' assessment of his elite potential correct.

Tom Brady will likely play for a couple more years but not five

Nothing surprises me with Tom. I don't know about five [more years], but a couple for sure. He's throwing him all better than he did when he two years ago.

Brady retired at the end of the 2022 season (early 2023), meaning he only played one more season rather than 'a couple'.

Lamar Jackson is the most intriguing quarterback of the 2018 draft class

But the guy that really intrigued me was Lamar Jackson. I mean, I saw you where the league's heading... him and David Johnson in the same backfield and put some speed outside. How much fun would that be coaching?

Lamar Jackson became a 2-time NFL MVP, proving Arians' intrigue well-founded.

Ben Roethlisberger will play another five years

And I think with Randy Fichtner as the quarterback coach now and coordinator, [Ben Roethlisberger] will play five years.

Roethlisberger played four more seasons (2018-2021) before retiring in early 2022.

Possession time in football means nothing

The clock don't mean shit. People that talk about it, it's production time... Possession time, nothing. You get no points for possession time.

This is a fundamental coaching philosophy debate; while efficiency is key, many coaches still value clock control to protect their defense.
