Bruce Arians on Brady Rumors, NFL Cut Day, and Living Legends
We are officially in the thick of the NFL preseason wrap-up, and Big Cat, PFT, and the crew are recording live from Stu Feiner’s basement. It’s a setting that feels like a smoke-filled room of old-school football guys, which is perfect because cut day has arrived. The Lions are the focus of Hard Knocks, and PFT has a very specific destination in mind for one of their standout wide receivers.
Tom Kennedy will be cut by the Lions and signed by the New England Patriots
Tom Kennedy is going to be cut and then he's going to be signed by the New England Patriots. Not only does he fit the bill for New England Patriots... Bill Belichick, he opens his eyes, he looks at Tom Kennedy, he's like, that's my next Wes Welker.
Speaking of guys moving around the league, Josh Johnson was cut again, continuing his legendary run as the NFL's premier nomadic backup. While it's a tough break, PFT is looking at the glass half full regarding Johnson’s travel schedule.
Josh Johnson will play for at least two more NFL teams this year
Josh Johnson got cut. He's played on 14 teams now. He'll probably play for at least two more this year. I love the fact that he's the guy that you call when you don't have another guy.
Hot Seat/Cool Throne
Hot Seat/Cool Throne took us from the locker room to the breakfast buffet and eventually the tennis courts. Big Cat sparked a heated debate about the most average part of a hotel stay, specifically calling out the cereal selection at the continental breakfast.
Frosted Flakes are a perfectly average and unexciting cereal
I feel like Frosted Flakes is an okay cereal, but it's just never is anyone's like—does anyone get excited about it? They're perfectly average. Unless they're stale at the continental breakfast.
In sports news, the crew marveled at the late-career resurgence of Albert Pujols. While the baseball world is celebrating the chase for 700, Big Cat is looking at the sudden power surge with a slightly skeptical eye, especially compared to other aging athletes.
Albert Pujols' late-career home run surge is suspicious and 'not normal'
Albert Pujols, 42 years old. July 4th he was hitting .189. And since then he leads the league in batting average and has like 11 homers. That's totally normal... Why does Sam Querrey not do fucking drugs before he retires? He should have done some fucking Winstrol.
Meanwhile, PFT noticed some interesting activity in the stands at the US Open. Former President Bill Clinton was spotted getting quite friendly with sex therapist Dr. Ruth, leading to some bold speculation about what happens when the cameras aren't looking.
Bill Clinton definitely hooked up with Dr. Ruth at the US Open
Bill Clinton was at the US Open too. And he was best term for it—he was noodling with Dr. Ruth. They were getting very close... bill Clinton was getting real horny with Dr. Ruth. And I think he fucked her. I'm going to say he fucked her.
Bruce Arians in Studio
The highlight of the show was recurring guest and Super Bowl champion Bruce Arians joining the crew in studio. Now serving as a "special advisor" to the Buccaneers, Arians seems to be living the dream—all of the football knowledge with none of the gameday blame. He wasted no time addressing the internet's favorite rumor that Tom Brady forced him out of the head coaching seat.
Rumors of friction with Tom Brady were completely false
It was a big one [the rumor of friction]. It's nothing could be further from the truth. We have a great relationship... Tom, he's asking more questions and I throw him in the golf cart and he's old enough and I can drive him off the field.
Arians provided some incredible insight into what it’s like coaching the GOAT. Despite being 45 years old, Arians insists that Brady is actually improving physically, which is a terrifying thought for the rest of the NFC South.
Tom Brady is throwing the ball better at age 45 than he did two years ago
He's throwing better now. It's crazy... he's got great mechanics. He's one of those full body throwers. He's not using all just arm. Tom, he's an amazing human being... he's throwing the ball better and I've ever seen him throw it.
The conversation turned to the other legendary quarterbacks Arians has coached, and he didn't hesitate to put Andrew Luck at the top of the list. He reminisced about Luck’s unique physicality, describing a guy who played the most important position in sports with the mentality of a middle linebacker.
Andrew Luck is the only quarterback I've ever coached who hits as hard as a linebacker after throwing an interception
He was taking a beating and again, tough as nails. I mean he's the only linebacker—he's the only quarterback that throws an interception and hits as hard as the linebacker. Yeah. Cause he's pissed off.
Mount Rushmore of Living Legends
To wrap things up, the crew stayed in Stu Feiner’s basement to draft the Mount Rushmore of Living Legends. The draft got off to a chaotic start when Hank used the first overall pick on an internet sensation over the greatest basketball player of all time.
Hasbulla is a bigger living legend than Michael Jordan
One-one is Hasbulla. He's a living legend. He walks in the room, everyone stops. You go to any country in the world and they're like—Hasbulla. He's got international [fame]. Hasbulla objectively is way bigger [than Michael Jordan].
Big Cat and PFT countered with some heavy hitters, including Adam Sandler, who Big Cat praised for being the ultimate "guy's guy" who just happens to be a global movie star.
Adam Sandler is a living legend because of his 100% likability rating and his tendency to go viral for playing pickup basketball
Adam Sandler living legend. Great pick. Every also just goes viral every other day for just dropping dimes in a pickup boots game. He's and also he goes viral for being a good friend all the time. Yeah. Like that. When I see Adam Sandler trending it's usually because he did something awesome.
PFT rounded out the list with a tribute to an icon of a different industry, noting her massive impact on the development of young men everywhere.
Lisa Ann is a living legend for 'turning so many boys into men' and being a nice person
Lisa Ann... a true living legend. She turned so many boys into men... and she's a very nice person.
With NFL Week 1 just around the corner, the energy is high and the takes are only getting hotter.
