The Chicago Bulls will use the Play-In tournament to justify mediocrity

When they originally announced the play in, I was like this is going to be for franchises like the Bulls, Jerry Reinsdorf is gonna use this as like 'we almost made the playoffs' every single year and they're exactly in that spot. Again. They shouldn't be a playoff team.

The Bulls' historical performance and management's refusal to tank since the Play-In's inception supports this assessment of their organizational strategy.

College basketball is a Ponzi scheme

I was gonna say it's college basketball. A Ponzi scheme. Mm. Because the tournament starts. Just wait. Did not Great Matchups round of 32. Gonna be great. Round of 32's not great, just wait. Good. So sweet 16. Sweet 16 happens. Oh, that sucked. But just wait. This is the best Elite eight you've ever seen. The Elite eight sucks. But just wait. The final four, we're kicking the can down the road.

The sentiment of a 'bad' tournament depends on game results; while ratings are up, many games were blowouts.

Houston is the biggest 'Cinderella' of the Final Four

I have Houston one, then I had Florida two... [Houston] because they've never won a national title. They don't have any legacy in basketball outside of Charles Barkley. And obviously what Bruce Pearl's done, I think they would be the second Cinderella. Florida still has, you know, they, they back to back national titles.

It's a matter of semantics regarding what defines a Cinderella when all teams are top seeds.

I hate that I don't hate this current Duke team

I'm basically landed on the fact that I think my hate for Duke is now just the fact that I don't hate this Duke team. Like, do something to make me hate you. Get to a fight. I hate that I don't hate them. You know what the issue is? That's what's making me mad.

Subjective emotional state of a fan regarding a team's likeability.

I love the DJ Moore trade for the Bears because it clears cap space for Max Crosby or Tyler Linderbaum

I love this trade because you clear up money. [DJ Moore's] got a big pretty hefty contract so you clear up money to maybe go get a Max Crosby or a Linderbaum. You get a pick and you make the bet that Luther Burden and Rome Odunze are gonna be taking leaps forward.

The trade is real in this transcript's timeline. The outcome of the cap space usage depends on free agency results.

DJ Moore would not have had a 1,000-yard season if he stayed in the Bears' offense

He could have a thousand yards [with the Bills] and be like, wow. How, how could you trade him? He wouldn't have had a thousand yards in this Bear's offense.

Moore finished the 2023 season with 1,364 yards for the Bears, so this retrospective hypothetical is likely incorrect as he had already proven he could do it.

Malik Willis is the #1 free agent backup quarterback

Top quarterback free agents... Is it also Malik Willis? Malik Willis is, yes. So he's number one. Malik Willis one.

Willis was traded to the Packers in 2024 and performed well as a backup, but ranking him #1 over established vets is a subjective value judgment.
