Tom Izzo needs to win a second national championship to enter the 'rarefied air' of the greatest coaches

I do think we probably underrate him... he has to get that second title to like get into that rarefied air. Because second titles is really where... it just, you look at the list of guys who won one title, there's a lot of guys. Then you get to second and it's a laundry list of the best coaches in the game.

Legacy status is a subjective debate, though title count is a standard metric used for comparison.

University of Virginia is the biggest winner of the weekend despite not playing

Biggest winner of the weekend... University of Virginia. Big time dodged bullet because not only did their loss against Furman not, it wasn't even close to being the biggest upset of the tournament so far. But also they're no longer the only 16 seed to go down to a one seed [after Purdue lost to FDU].

Correct in the sense that the FDU/Purdue story became the primary historical narrative of the tournament, taking the heat off UVA.

Purdue has officially reached rock bottom because there are no 17 seeds to lose to

Purdue now 2021, they lost to a 13 seed... 2022, they lost to a 15 seed... 2023, they lost to a 16 seed... Good news for Purdue. There are no 17 seeds. So it feels like we've reached the bottom.

Logically correct as there is no 17th seed in the current NCAA bracket format.

Without Zach Edey, Purdue wouldn't have even made the NIT

My takeaway was that Zach Edey, without Zach Edey Purdue would not have made the tournament. They probably wouldn't have even made the NIT. Zach Edey was the only one doing anything.

Subjective opinion on team quality without their best player.

Michigan was definitively the better team in the National Championship and it never felt like UConn was in danger of winning.

Michigan was the better team. We all saw it. It never felt like [the game] was in danger. Like the only moment that I was like, oh, UConn might have a chance, was when there was like maybe five and a half minutes left and Mullens missed that three to cut it to four.

The episode presents Michigan winning the 2026 National Championship as a fact within the show's timeline.

Michigan was the best team all year — outside of Duke, who would have won the championship by a lot

They were the best team. They were the best team all year outside of Duke. 'Cause that actually was my other big takeaway — Duke just completely, Duke beat this Michigan team a month and a half ago.

Subjective comparison of team quality. Duke did beat Michigan during the regular season in 2025-26.

Danny Hurley is 18-1 against the spread in his last four NCAA tournaments, which is insane

Danny Hurley remains 18 and one in the last four tournaments against the spread. How insane is that? Furman is the only one that they didn't cover. That was the first round this year.

This is a factual claim about Hurley's ATS record over the last four NCAA tournaments. Based on UConn's remarkable tournament run, this is plausible and presented as a known stat. Cannot fully verify exact record but the claim is stated as fact.
