I am taking the over on the Astros season win total because they'll get on base from HBPs

I want to find out what the what the line is on the amount of times that the Astros are going to get beaned this year. And I'm going to take the over on it no matter what... I might take the the season win total over for the Astros. Just on that alone.

The 2020 season was shortened to 60 games. The Astros finished 29-31, which was below many pre-season projections (though the season length makes 'over' takes tricky). They were plunked 21 times in 60 games, which paced toward a high number but wasn't a record.

RBIs are the most important and only truly meaningful stat in baseball

RBIs are actually the most important stat when you actually look at it... The team who has the most RBIs... I'm not even counting runs anymore.

Statistically, runs scored is more fundamental than RBIs, but Big Cat is making a joke about old-school baseball logic.

Mike Wilbon thinks analytics have hijacked baseball

Wilbon... actually thinks that we're under an analytics hijacking... Analytics have hijacked his sport, baseball. And he says that we've gone so far and we undervalue wins. He doesn't care about ERA... He cares about wins.

Wilbon did publicly state that wins should matter more and deGrom shouldn't have won.

If you fly one drone into your finger, you're a drone idiot for the rest of your life

Trevor [Bauer], the old saying goes, you can build a million bridges, but if you fly one drone into your finger, you're a drone idiot for the rest of your life.

Tim Tebow's performance in spring training proves he only knows how to contribute

He grounded into a double play, but he drove in a run... All Tim Tebow does is contribute. I think that's one of those things that you have to look at and be like, you know, this is one of these intangibles that we talk about.

Tebow hit .223 in the minors and never made the majors, though he did technically 'contribute' runs occasionally. The take is satirical.

October 22nd is the most significant date in Chicago Cubs history

October 22nd, 2016, the Cubs clinched the NLCS. October 22nd, 2011, the Cubs hired Theo Epstein. October 22nd, 1970, the man behind the Billy Goat curse died. October 22nd is a big-time sabermetrics date in Cubs history now.

The dates provided are historical facts: the Pennant win, Theo's hiring, and William Sianis's death all occurred on Oct 22.

The Royals' praying mantis should be burned to kill their team's mojo

I'm just saying it'd be a real shame if someone snuck into their dugout and dropped a match in there and watched the, what's it, a terrarium? ... If you're trying to get rid of their mojo... That's a direct correlation.

The mantis died later in 2016, and the Royals failed to make the playoffs that year after winning the World Series in 2015.

Ichiro's hits in Japan should not count toward his career total vs. Pete Rose

Sabermetrically speaking, do hits in Japan count the same as Major League Baseball hits? I would say no... Those hits don't count in the United States. Neither should Ichiro's.

Major League Baseball does not officially combine NPB and MLB stats for records, though Ichiro is widely celebrated for his 'professional' total.
