Bracket Breakdown With Matt Jones + Bortles In LA

Wednesday, March 20, 201919 takes

The BOAT has found a safe harbor in LA. Eli Manning is NOT BAD ( - ). March Madness preview and our Final 4 picks that no one probably cares about ( - ). Hot Seat/Cool Throne including Robert Kraft and  Gambling because the NCAA doesn't want you to gamble ( - ). Kentucky Sports Radio Matt Jones joins the show to talk about the Tournament Field, how far Kentucky can go, Zion, and who he has winning the Tourney ( - ). Segments include way to stay relevant baseball for Mike Trout, Respect The Biz, PR 101 for Shane Dawson the not cat fucker, and Guys on Chicks.

Matt Jones on March Madness Brackets and Blake Bortles to LA

The BOAT has officially found a safe harbor. Blake Bortles is heading to the Los Angeles Rams, and Big Cat and PFT couldn't be happier for their favorite quarterback. The quarterback room in LA is basically a PMT playground now, and the expectations for what Sean McVay can do with Blake are sky-high.

Sean McVay will turn Blake Bortles into the greatest quarterback of all time

Sean McVay is about to get his hands on that clay and mold [Blake Bortles] into the greatest quarterback of all time. Well, second. One and one A with him and Jared Goff. I'm so excited for the Bortles.

Bortles barely played for the Rams and was certainly not the greatest of all time.

Before diving into the bracket, Big Cat wanted to address the Dave Gettleman era in New York. While everyone else is burying the Giants for their offseason moves, Big Cat is standing firm on Eli Manning still having some gas in the tank.

Eli Manning is still a good quarterback and the Giants know exactly what they're doing

This narrative that Eli [Manning] is overpaid and can't play is a crock. Dave Gettleman, the quote machine. Just wanted to get that out of the way. All you asking out there, the Giants know exactly what they're doing. Eli is still good.

OpinionFootballHotSarcastic
Eli Manning was benched for Daniel Jones shortly into the 2019 season and retired afterward. He was statically one of the worse starters in the league at this point.

March Madness Bracket Breakdown

It is officially the best four days of the year. The guys spent time looking at the stats that actually matter for your bracket, specifically adjusted offense and defense. Big Cat warned everyone not to be a hero when picking their champion, narrowing the field down to the heavy hitters.

The Rams will return to the Super Bowl with Blake Bortles hoisting the Lombardi trophy

Looking forward to the Rams going back to the Super Bowl. [Blake] Bortles hoisting that Lombardi trophy over his beautiful, beautiful, full head of hair.

The Rams lost in the Divisional Round in 2019, and Blake Bortles did not start a game.

However, PFT has his eyes on one specific stat that could doom the Blue Devils. Despite having Zion Williamson, Duke’s inability to hit from deep has PFT feeling skeptical about their ceiling.

The 2019 NCAA champion will come from a group of seven teams: Virginia, Duke, Michigan State, UNC, Gonzaga, Michigan, or Kentucky

There has been no team that has ever won the tournament that hasn't finished in the top 20 in adjusted offense and adjusted defense. I'm going to give you the teams right now. So if you're waiting to fill out your bracket, here are the teams that you should pick from. Virginia, Duke, Michigan State, North Carolina, Gonzaga, Michigan, Kentucky.

Virginia won the 2019 National Championship, and they were indeed in this group of seven teams.

When it came time to lock in the actual Final Four picks, the board was mostly chalk, though Hank managed to find a path for his Badgers that involves a massive upset for Virginia.

My 2019 Final Four: Virginia, Duke, Kentucky, and Michigan

So my Final Four is Virginia, Duke, Kentucky... and Michigan.

Only Virginia made the Final Four. Duke and Kentucky lost in the Elite Eight; Michigan lost in the Sweet Sixteen.

Duke will not reach the championship game because their three-point percentage is too low

Duke's three-point percentage is 30.2. It is the lowest in Division I men's basketball... no team, I repeat, no team has ever gotten to the championship game with a three-point percentage that low.

Duke lost in the Elite Eight to Michigan State, failing to reach the championship game.

Oregon will upset Wisconsin in the first round of the 2019 NCAA Tournament

I'm going straight chalk this year in every game. I think the committee, again, this is the year they get it right, and I'm going Oregon over Wisconsin. That's my only upset.

No. 12 seed Oregon defeated No. 5 seed Wisconsin 72-54 on March 22, 2019.

Matt Jones Joins the Show

Kentucky Sports Radio’s Matt Jones joined the show to give a boots-on-the-ground perspective from the SEC. He broke down why Kentucky fell apart in the SEC tournament and gave a massive shout-out to Wisconsin's own Tyler Herro for becoming a star in Lexington. Matt also looked ahead to the first game of the tournament, Louisville vs. Minnesota, which features a heavy dose of Pitino family drama.

Wisconsin will reach the Elite Eight after Oklahoma upsets Virginia in the second round

I think Kansas State's going to get upset, which leads to the classic second round, Wisconsin being favored. And then Oklahoma's going to upset Virginia. Wisconsin's going to beat Oklahoma [to reach the Elite Eight].

Wisconsin lost in the first round to Oregon, and Virginia went on to win the National Championship.

Matt isn't just high on the blue bloods, though. He’s looking at a specific 13-seed to make some noise in the first weekend, mainly because he doesn't trust Kansas State to show up without Dean Wade.

I am officially canceling Beto O'Rourke because I don't know how to pronounce his name

I've already canceled you. I push you to the side, Beto, and you're done because I can't say your name. It's a very simple test. I need to be able to say your name [instantly].

This is a subjective personal 'cancellation' based on pronunciation.

While we all love a good Cinderella story, Matt agrees with the sentiment that this is a top-heavy year. He believes there are only half a dozen teams with the actual DNA to win six games in three weeks.

Tyler Herro will be a top 20 pick in the NBA Draft

The key for Kentucky is your boy Tyler Herro from Wisconsin... he's been awesome. He's going to end up a top 20 pick in the NBA draft.

Tyler Herro was selected 13th overall by the Miami Heat in the 2019 NBA Draft.

Mike Trout and Respect the Biz

Baseball tried its best to stay relevant during March Madness by giving Mike Trout $430 million. Big Cat suggested that the MLB should buy airtime on every cable station for a "live look-in" every time Trout comes to the plate just so people actually know what he looks like.

We also had a massive Respect the Biz moment for Mark Barron, who reportedly shook the hand of every media member in Pittsburgh after his introductory interview. That kind of grit is how you win over the local beat writers before you even record a tackle.

Good luck with your brackets, don't let anyone shame your chalky picks, and remember to visualize yourself winning before Thursday's tip-off.

Rick Pitino will attend the Minnesota vs. Louisville game despite saying he won't

[Rick Pitino] swears he will not [be at the Minnesota vs. Louisville game], but that of course means he will. He will be sitting behind the Minnesota bench. He'll have on a Greek scarf. His hair will be fluffed up.

Rick Pitino did not attend the game; he remained in Greece where he was coaching Panathinaikos.

UC Irvine will upset Kansas State and reach the Sweet 16

I'll tell a big upset I like. I like UC Irvine to the Sweet 16. They play Kansas State. Dean Wade's not going to play. I don't like Kansas State at all... And UC Irvine's the only team in the tournament with 30 wins.

UC Irvine did upset Kansas State in the first round, but they lost in the second round to Oregon, so they did not reach the Sweet 16.

Virginia will never win anything because they play the worst form of basketball

You couldn't make me bet on Virginia. Virginia was never going to win anything. I still think they're the worst form of basketball. Only nerds like them... I just cannot believe that college basketball karma would let the Cavaliers go to a Final Four. I'm picking them to lose again.

Virginia won the 2019 National Championship, defeating Texas Tech in the final.

The 2019 National Champion will come from a group of six elite teams: Duke, Kentucky, UNC, Tennessee, Virginia, or Gonzaga

I would probably say Duke one. I would say Kentucky and Carolina kind of 2A, 2B. And then probably Tennessee, Virginia, Gonzaga. And then I think everybody else kind of sucks. I think the champ's going to be one of those six. I would take, if you gave me those six against the field, I would bet everything.

Virginia (one of the six listed) won the 2019 National Championship.

John Beilein is the best pure X and O coach in college basketball

I actually think the best pure X and O coach in the tournament is John Beilein. Because even though everywhere he goes, they do better than they should, he never has guys that are super talented... as a pure coach, he's the best in the country.

Subjective opinion on coaching quality, though Beilein did leave for the NBA (Cavaliers) shortly after this, which did not go well.

MLB should fix baseball by forcing live look-ins of every Mike Trout at-bat on all cable stations

MLB should buy airtime on every cable station out there. So every time Mike Trout comes to the plate, it's a live looking in the bottom left corner. Even if you don't like baseball, it will just get everyone to watch Mike Trout's at-bats.

This is a subjective proposal for league marketing.

While the relationship was toxic, there is no proof Roethlisberger intentionally fumbled to sabotage a game.
