CJ McCollum on Bubble Life, Slim Melo, and MLB's Debacle
Sports are officially all the way back, and Big Cat is already managing a three-TV setup to keep up with the NBA, MLB, and NHL all hitting the screen at once. While the bubble life in Orlando seems to be working, the MLB is currently hanging by a thread thanks to a complete lack of a plan. Big Cat didn't hold back on Commissioner Rob Manfred, who seems more interested in threatening players than actually implementing rules that work.
Rob Manfred has been a total debacle in handling MLB's return
Rob Manfred being like I'm gonna threaten you guys if you don't start following the rules, we're going to cancel the league... he just has to be Rob Manfred has to go to bed every single night... he pulls out his Roger Goodell voodoo doll and starts poking it with pins being like, please fuck this up Goodell, please fuck this up because if you fuck this up, no one will give a shit.
While baseball struggles with its "geographical" approach, the NBA is flourishing in its controlled environment. However, the one major gripe is the way the Pelicans are handling their superstar rookie. Big Cat and PFT are rightfully annoyed that the NBA invited the Pelicans specifically for the Zion experience, only for the team to keep him on a "burst restriction."
The Pelicans not playing Zion Williamson more minutes is failing the whole reason they were invited
The Pelicans not realizing the whole reason they were invited was to get Zion in the playoffs and playing him 29 minutes over two games... we wanted to watch Zion. Yeah, he's a little heavy but we still wanted to watch him and you played him 29 minutes in two games... the Pelicans are not going to play ball.
Speaking of the NBA, Big Cat has noticed a hilarious trend with the Lakers' favorite bench spark plug. Alex Caruso has completed the full cycle of the sports media ecosystem in record time.
Alex Caruso has become 'overratedly underrated'
He has become, I wrote this down when I was watching the game, he started out being underrated but then he was so underrated that he became overrated but now it's swung back and now he's like overratedly underrated. So now he's underrated again.
CJ McCollum Joins the Show
Recurring guest and friend of the program CJ McCollum called in from the NBA bubble to give the guys a look at what life is really like inside the Disney gates. He’s staying busy by shipping 70 bottles of his own wine, McCollum Heritage 91, into the bubble and preparing for the Blazers' playoff push. CJ isn't worried about the long layoff affecting the quality of play, suggesting the lack of travel might actually help the shooters.
NBA players will shoot as well or better in the bubble due to lack of travel and fresh legs
I think guys will shoot the same or better because some people that can shoot actually worked on their games... No travel, everybody's more fresh because you have four months off... I would expect guys to be really locked in.
CJ also gave us an update on "Slim Melo," confirming that Carmelo Anthony is in peak physical condition and ready to be a "walking bucket" for Portland. Despite the NBA's best efforts to set up a Zion vs. LeBron first-round matchup, CJ made it clear the Blazers are ready to play spoiler.
The Blazers have a great chance to ruin the party and make the NBA playoffs
We feel like we have a great chance a situation where we get to play games and have a chance to make the playoffs... We like to ruin the party here for everyone... We look forward to trying to get into this playoff.
Who's Back and Trouble in Paradise
Who's Back of the week featured a classic Brooks Koepka troll of Bryson DeChambeau over fire ants and the return of Mike Glennon. With the Jaguars dealing with COVID list issues, the "Neck" is officially back in the spotlight, which Big Cat knows will trigger a specific segment of NFL Twitter.
Mike Glennon is the perfect quarterback for people to use in Kaepernick comparison tweets
Every year we have to have at least one quarterback that's the perfect person for half of Twitter to quote tweet and be like Colin Kaepernick isn't on an NFL team but this person. Yes, Mike Glennon is like the perfect person to focus our attention on there.
In Green Bay, things are getting awkward. Matt LaFleur gave Aaron Rodgers the dreaded "vote of confidence," which usually means the clock is ticking. Big Cat sees history repeating itself in the Frozen Tundra.
Aaron Rodgers will leave the Packers in a few years just like Brett Favre
I think that if he does play this year and he plays well, it's going to be the Brett Favre thing. They're going to give him two more years... And then after a couple seasons, he'll go somewhere else.
PFT took it a step further, suggesting that Rodgers might actually be looking at his former coach with a bit of envy given the current roster construction in Dallas.
Aaron Rodgers would rather play for Mike McCarthy in Dallas than Matt LaFleur in Green Bay
Aaron Rodgers right now... he would rather I think play for Mike McCarthy right now than Matt LaFleur. Yes, who can say what you want about Mike McCarthy, but he never acquired a good quarterback to play behind them... Matt LaFleur doesn't have all that background with Rodgers and he doesn't know how to treat him.
PR 101: The Mets Being The Mets
To wrap things up, the guys looked at the absolute circus surrounding Yoenis Cespedes. After the Mets announced they couldn't find him, leading everyone to believe he had gone missing or worse, it turned out he just opted out of the season. Big Cat thinks the timing of the announcement from GM Brodie Van Wagenen felt a little too personal.
Mets GM Brodie Van Wagenen intentionally leaked that Yoenis Cespedes was missing to spite him
He knew that Cespedes packed up his shit and left because he was opting out but he used to be Cespedes's Agent and so he's pissed that Yoenis ended up signing with Roc Nation. And so now he's like feeding all this shit into the media... first thought if somebody just ditches the Mets you don't immediately suspect that they're dead.
At least we still have the murder hornets to look forward to if the sports bubble finally pops.
