David Wallace on The Office Mount Rushmore and Odd Mom Out
Saturday shows are for getting weird, and having the former CFO of Dunder Mifflin on the program definitely fits the bill. Andy Buckley joined Big Cat and PFT Commenter for a loose, chaotic 25 minutes that ranged from technical difficulties with parental controls to his thoughts on why golf is a terrible fit for the Olympic stage.
Before getting into the Scranton talk, Big Cat and PFT gave a ringing endorsement for Andy’s show, Odd Mom Out, though they might have a slightly different perspective on the target demographic than the network does.
Odd Mom Out is the first show by women for guys
[Andy Buckley] said that [Odd Mom Out] is the perfect... it's the first show by women for guys.
The Mount Rushmore of Office Characters
Naturally, you can't have David Wallace on and not talk about the greatest show in sitcom history. Big Cat kicked things off by drafting the most legendary traveling salesman to ever grace the screen, mostly because he shares the show's core values regarding intellectuals.
Todd Packer is a Mount Rushmore character from The Office
Todd Packer. He's obviously on my mountain. Todd's a guy that would definitely punch some nerds with us because we hate nerds on this show.
Big Cat also made a strong case for the most underrated member of the annex, highlighting the chaotic energy that Kelly Kapoor brought to her relationship with Ryan.
Kelly Kapoor is the most underrated character on The Office
I actually am a big Kelly Kapoor guy. I think Kelly Kapoor gets [not] enough credit for being hilarious, especially with her relationship with Ryan. My favorite Kelly Kapoor was when she was like, I'm pregnant, and then they cut to her and she's like [shaking head].
When it was time for PFT to draft, he didn't pick characters so much as he picked the many personas of one Michael Scott. He locked in the absolute heavy hitters of the Scott cinematic universe.
Prison Mike, Date Mike, and Michael Skarn are the three best characters in The Office
I've got Prison Mike as number one. Number two, I've got Date Mike. Nice to meet me. Michael Skarn is my number three.
Andy Buckley brought some insider perspective to the draft, leaning into the characters that played off Michael's insanity the best. He specifically pointed to the evolution of Jan Levinson as a highlight of the series.
Jan Levinson became a better and more insane character after her breast augmentation
Fucking Jan was great... I guess [I would take her] post-boob job because she just got even more insane.
As the draft wound down, Andy realized he couldn't leave himself off the list. It's the ultimate power move—if you aren't going to bet on David Wallace, who will?
I belong on the Mount Rushmore of Office characters as David Wallace
Well, I guess I got to go – I mean, should I technically – I guess I got to go with David Wallace.
Script Reading: The Buyout
To close out the weirdness, the crew performed a table read of the iconic negotiation scene from the "Broke" episode. We had PFT Commenter channeling his inner Prison Mike to play Michael Scott, Big Cat taking on the role of Pam, and Hank stepping in as Charles Miner. Hearing the actual David Wallace negotiate against a version of Michael Scott that sounds suspiciously like a guy who just spent twenty years in the clink for kidnapping the President's son was the perfect way to spend a Saturday morning.
If Dunder Mifflin ever needs a new CEO, we know a couple of guys who are ready to punch some nerds and sell some paper.
