Amy Trask on Al Davis, Raider Nation, and the Princess of Darkness
Big Cat and PFT are officially successful bowl owners. The first annual Barstool Sports Presents Pardon My Take Presents Wet The Beak Ponzi Scheme Awareness Bowl is in the books, and it was a masterpiece of guerrilla journalism. While other bowls are dealing with the "epidemic" of star players sitting out to protect their draft stock, the PMT Bowl had zero opt-outs and an intern Royal Rumble that sent Glenny Balls to the hospital for 40 stitches.
PFT has a very specific theory on why guys like Christian McCaffrey and Leonard Fournette are skipping their bowl games, and it all comes down to the quality of the suits running the show.
Star players only sit out bowl games when the bowl has poor leadership
If those two clowns of bowls [the Citrus Bowl and the Sun Bowl] had actual leadership running the show, I don't think that the star players would be sitting out.
Big Cat was a little more sympathetic to the players, mostly because he loves a good "system is corrupt" angle. He also took some time to absolutely dismantle Kirk Herbstreit for criticizing the kids, pointing out that it’s easy to say you’d play "one last time" when you weren't actually good enough to have an NFL career waiting for you.
I have no problem with players sitting out bowl games because the system is corrupt
I have no problem with any of these guys sitting out any of the bowls... I like players taking care of themselves when the system is corrupt.
The Princess of Darkness
Former Oakland Raiders CEO Amy Trask joined the show to discuss her thirty years with the Silver and Black. She is a total pro and somehow managed to survive an interview where Big Cat and PFT immediately asked her "Sup?" and tried to get her to admit that white men are a persecuted class.
Amy shared some incredible stories about working for Al Davis, including how he complimented her by saying he "doesn't consider her a woman" when he wanted to cuss in meetings. She also gave some insight into just how much Al Davis respected the power of the league office.
The NFL Commissioner is perhaps more powerful than the President of the United States
Al [Davis] believed the NFL was very, very, very powerful. He believed, you know, at one point he said to me... the commissioner is powerful and something to the effect of, you know, perhaps more powerful than the president of the United States.
Despite the Raiders' success this year and their potential move to Las Vegas, Amy made it clear that her heart stays in Oakland. She’s a Raider for life, and the idea of working for another front office is completely off the table.
I would never work for another NFL team because being a Raider is not fungible
I've been approached a number of times... since leaving the Raiders. I don't [have interest] for two primary reasons. I was a Raider. I spent almost 30 years as a Raider. And to me, that's not fungible... I don't know that I could ever wear the colors of another team.
We also got into the current state of the team, Derek Carr’s ability to play in the cold, and whether or not the Raiders are officially "back" now that they've clinched a playoff berth.
The Raiders are officially 'back' this year
The Raiders are headed for the playoffs. They've clinched a spot, and now it remains to be seen what they do with that opportunity... Of course they're back this year. They're back. Raiders are back.
Grumors and Respect the Biz
With coaching vacancies opening up, the guys officially launched "Grumors" (Gruden Rumors). The Los Angeles Rams are reportedly looking at Jon Gruden, which Big Cat thinks is the only way to properly open a billion-dollar stadium in Hollywood.
The Rams need to hire John Gruden because a new stadium requires a 'splash' hire
The Los Angeles Rams are moving toward a meeting with ESPN analyst John Gruden... that's really nice because you need a splash, and nothing says a splash like a guy who hasn't been coaching for about 15 years... they need a coach to bring in the new stadium.
PFT, ever the contrarian, thinks the Rams might be moving too fast and should look at a familiar face to keep things steady.
The Rams should consider rehiring Jeff Fisher for consistency
I think what you need in L.A., and this might go contrary to popular opinion, you need somebody with a steady hand, somebody that's done this type of thing before, someone that's saved the course, consistency, a Jeff Fisher type, for example. So maybe we can get that rumor going, that the Rams are... They're willing to take Jeff back.
Finally, the guys checked in on a security guard at the Chargers-Raiders game who was caught "warming his hands" a little too vigorously near the cheerleaders. While the rest of the internet was disgusted, PFT decided to pivot the blame toward the league's marketing department for creating an environment with too much alpha-male energy.
The NFL is to blame for security guards masturbating because they put hot cheerleaders on the sidelines
Why do they put the cheerleaders at NFL games if we're not allowed to masturbate to them in the stadium?... It is the NFL's fault because they kind of asked for it. You don't put hot women on the sidelines and expect us not to masturbate. A bunch of alpha males just walking around.
If you see a guy in a van with a bowl haircut at P.F. Chang's this week, tell Mark Davis we said hi.
