Big Cat and PFT Commenter took over a literal coat closet at Big 10 Media Week to sit down with the biggest personalities in the conference. The energy is high as football is officially back, which means camp fights, coaching swagger, and Big Cat already putting his bank account on the line for obscure golf bets. Between Baker Mayfield's contract drama in Tampa and Tony Romo's stretching-heavy arrest video, there was plenty to sift through before the heavy hitters sat down.

Baker Mayfield should have a new contract and is being disrespected by the Buccaneers

Baker Mayfield took the podium today and he said it's very disappointing to not have a new contract. He's feeling disrespected and undervalued. Now I agree with Baker Mayfield. He should have a new contract.

This is a subjective opinion on player value and contract negotiations.

Coach Sig and the Indiana Aura

Coach Curt Cignetti joined the show and immediately established his dominance with what PFT described as a handshake that was beyond a "dead fish"—a move so confusing it clearly qualifies as high-level mental warfare. After winning a national championship and turning Indiana into a powerhouse overnight, Cignetti isn't interested in looking at his trophies. He’s stashed them where he can't see them, focusing entirely on scoring touchdowns in the red area.

Indiana Football has one of the best turnaround stories in sports history

I think what most people in the know would agree, it's one of a kind story. And it doesn't happen without great support from the top... We win. That's what we do.

In this specific episode's timeline, Indiana has just won a championship, which is factually true in-universe.

When asked how he plans to handle the target on his back now that Indiana is the hunted, Cignetti gave the coldest answer of the year.

I responded to having a target on my back as a champion by 'buying a bigger gun'

How are you gonna handle being the hunted now that you're at the top? It's a—I bought a bigger gun.

Metaphorical claim about competitive mentality.

UCLA's Bob Chesney and the New White Whale

UCLA head coach Bob Chesney brought a different kind of energy, proving that Pennsylvania is still the premier breeding ground for coaches with grit. Chesney is taking over a program in transition but refused to use the "rebuild" excuse, setting his sights directly on a Big 10 title.

We are not lowering expectations or hiding behind a rebuild at UCLA — our goal is to win the Big 10

It's a goal, right? It's a goal. It should be our goal. We should not be sitting in a spot, to me, lowering expectations and hiding behind the idea that we're rebuilding. We're not, we're building a program, period... That has to be the goal. That has to be where we're setting our sights. It has to be how we recruit. It has to be how we develop.

Pending UCLA's final standing in the Big 10.

While Chesney’s rise from Division III to the Big 10 is incredible, the real star of the interview might have been the mention of Mikey V, a friend of Chesney’s who reportedly owns a Subway inside a Walmart and shows up to work with a chainsaw when trees fall. He is officially the new PMT character to watch.

Joel Klatt’s College Football Deep Dive

Joel Klatt joined the show to provide some actual analysis, though he was quickly grilled on why he seemingly hates the South. Klatt was adamant that the Big 10 has officially overtaken the SEC as the best conference in the country, citing everything from playoff records to first-round draft picks.

Oregon is the only championship contender without any major roster questions

Oregon's the only team with no questions... football wise on the field, there's no questions. They're gonna have maybe the best defensive line in all of college football. They've got a Heisman Trophy candidate at quarterback... I would take the Big 10 over the field.

Will be resolved by the end of the 2026 season.

Big Cat pushed back on the idea that experience is the biggest factor in the modern game, arguing that in a world of super-conferences, the schedule lottery is the true kingmaker.

Scheduling is now the most important factor in college football success over experience

I actually disagree. I think the number one factor is scheduling because with all these super conferences now, there are years where teams will just have an easier schedule... It's a lottery.

Outcome depends on how schedule-advantaged teams perform relative to others.

Klatt also dropped some heat on the Heisman race, going with a freshman receiver as his "bet your life on it" pick and identifying a certain blue-blood program in the SEC that might be one bad loss away from a total meltdown.

Jeremiah Smith is the best player in college football and will win the Heisman

If you said you have to be right, you have to bet your own money. I have to take Jeremiah Smith. He's the best player in the sport.

Pending the 2026 Heisman vote.

Alabama is the most likely major program to suffer a meltdown and experience mass fan hysteria this season

Alabama is the one... I think Kalen is an excellent coach, but he doesn't run the football well enough. And there are times... when a fan base expects a certain brand of football. And if you're not giving them that brand, whether it could be successful or not, they don't like it. It's just like a taste at a restaurant could be a really good restaurant, but you don't like it. I think that fan base and Kalen, it could be headed towards that type of deal.

Pending the 2026 season outcome for Alabama.

Mount Rushmore and Fyre Fest

The Mt. Rushmore of buttons to press brought out some classic relatable content, from the snooze button to the satisfying click of a hotel AC unit being turned down to 60 degrees. PFT tried to pander to the voters by picking the "vote in a Twitter poll" button, while Big Cat and the memes/max crew went with the video game console power button.

To wrap up the show, Big Cat used Fyre Fest to air a legitimate grievance against the "Quon Balls" softball team, who no-showed a 10:00 PM game without a proper heads-up.

No-showing a 10:00 PM softball game makes you a 'piece of shit human being'

If you no show a 10:00 PM softball game, you are just a piece of shit human being. I think that's fair to say... you are a true scumbag if you do this.

Purely subjective social commentary.

Don't no-show a late-night softball game unless you want to be the subject of a million-impression ratio.

Tony Romo will not have the drunk driving charges stick to him

I'm not a lawyer. I am studying for the bar exam, but I do feel like he's probably gonna get off on this. I'd be shocked if the charges stuck to Tony Romo.

Outcome of the Romo legal case is pending.

I bet $500 to win half a million dollars on Brad Dalke winning the Rocket Mortgage Classic

I placed a bet for $500 to win half a million on Brad Dalke. Correct. Why not? He's gotta win. I saw him win the Internet Invitational last year.

Brad Dalke did not win the Rocket Mortgage Classic in 2026. He finished last among all competitors, posting scores of 81 and 75 for a total of 16 over par after two rounds, and missed the cut.

LIV is not dead? It is on life support... I still think it's dead. I'm not apologizing for saying it's dead... I think it's far more dead than alive.

The health of the league is a matter of interpretation, but it remains operational as of the episode date.

My narrative around LeBron James' new documentary will be entirely determined by whether the Lakers win or lose this season

If you haven't figured out by now on, on this show specifically when it comes to LeBron, we're gonna be playing the results. So whatever happens then we're going to fit our narrative around that.

The current era of college football is at its highest quality and interest level ever

College football is amazing right now. The product has never been better. Interest has never been higher. And we got a bunch of teams that could go win a national championship.

While interest can be measured by ratings, the 'quality' of the product is subjective.

Teams must spend at least $28 million on NIL to realistically compete for a championship

I don't think that you can realistically compete for a national championship unless you're spending at a minimum $28 million.

The financial transparency of NIL makes this hard to verify precisely, but it's a verifiable industry claim.

Penn State's extremely favorable schedule should easily get them to 10 wins and a shot at the Big 10 title

Penn State schedule. Guys, if you look at it, that's a 10 win schedule. Easy. And maybe more, you know, so even though I don't know if they're the best team in the Big 10, I think that they're gonna have a real chance to compete for a spot in that Big 10 championship game.

Arch Manning was secretly one of the three best quarterbacks in the country during the second half of last season

I don't think people realize how well he played late in the season. Everyone just blankets, 'Oh, he struggled last year.' Ah, not in the second half of the year. He was one of the three best quarterbacks in the country with an offensive line that was not very effective, no running game whatsoever, and a stable of receivers that was subpar for Texas standards... He didn't turn the ball over the last half of the year. He had like 20 total touchdowns, only two turnovers.

A subjective evaluation of historical performance.
