NFL Trade Deadline, The Jets Trade Everyone, CFP Rankings, Johnny Fanta Talking College Ball Plus Listener Submitted Pardon Your Takes

Wednesday, November 5, 202514 takes

The NFL Trade deadline is here and the Jets have dismantled their team and Memes is doing surprisingly ok. We talk trade deadline, CFP Rankings, wind turbine, and more (-). We then talk some MNF and clean up from Sunday and a realization that the Blue Jays had the worst loss of all time (-). Hot Seat/Cool Throne including more Hugh Freeze golf stories (-). Johnny Fanta joins the show to talk college football, college basketball, his Browns and more (-). We finish with breaking moos of Sauce Gardner trade and listener submitted Pardon Your Takes (-).

NFL Trade Deadline Chaos, CFP Rankings, and Johnny Fanta

The NFL Trade Deadline actually delivered some drama for once, mostly because the New York Jets decided to blow up their entire operation. We got to witness Memes go through all five stages of grief in real time as Sauce Gardner was shipped off to Indianapolis and Quinnen Williams headed to Big D. While Memes was busy staring into the abyss, PFT was busy crunching the numbers on the haul of picks Joe Douglas actually managed to bring back.

The Jets fleeced the Cowboys in the Quinnen Williams trade

You gotta haul. I would even say memes, I dare say fleeced. I think you fleeced the Cowboys.

The trade value received by the Jets was seen as high for a rebuilding team, while Williams didn't save the Cowboys' season.

While the Jets are stockpiling first-rounders for the 2027 draft, Jerry Jones seems to be living in a different reality. Big Cat couldn't wrap his head around why the Cowboys are acting like they’re one defensive tackle away from a Super Bowl during a season that’s already spiraling. It felt like Jerry was just desperate to make a splash, regardless of the cost or the logic.

Jerry Jones is the biggest loser of the NFL trade deadline

Jerry Jones is the big loser in all of this because he traded for a guy [Quinnen Williams] in on a season that things aren't going well. And then also watched Micah Parsons... it feels like Jerry Jones should have gotten more from Micah Parsons is my big point.

The Cowboys' season ended poorly and trading for Quinnen Williams while losing Parsons didn't prevent a losing record.

Switching to the college gridiron, the first College Football Playoff rankings dropped, and the committee is already up to their old tricks. The guys were baffled by how the committee is treating the resume of a certain team from South Bend compared to the heavy hitters in the SEC and Big 12. Big Cat isn't buying the logic that a loss to Northern Illinois can be so easily hand-waved away when other teams have more impressive wins.

Notre Dame should not be ranked ahead of Texas or Oklahoma in the CFP rankings

I do think that the Oklahoma and Notre Dame Texas rankings makes no sense... Notre Dame's best win is against USC and their losses are Texas A&M and Miami... Texas's best win is Oklahoma and Vanderbilt... Oklahoma has also two ranked wins Michigan and Tennessee. Their losses against Ole Miss and Texas... it just doesn't make sense to me why Notre Dame is ahead of those two teams.

This is a subjective evaluation of team resumes at a specific point in time.

We also had to address the Monday Night Football broadcast debacle. Between the Disney and YouTube TV dispute, half the country couldn't even find the game. PFT has a very simple platform for his future presidential run that would solve all these corporate squabbles once and for all.

NFL games should be free for everyone to watch

Sports should be free. That's my take. When I'm elected president free sports for everybody... It keeps people happy. It's also just the right thing to do.

This is a subjective political/economic opinion.

Johnny Fanta joined the show to do what he does best: bring an insane amount of energy to both football and basketball talk. He broke down why Indiana is the most interesting story in sports right now and why Dabo Swinney might be looking for an exit strategy from Clemson that looks very familiar to college hoops fans.

Dabo Swinney leaving Clemson for a new job would be exactly like John Calipari leaving Kentucky for Arkansas

I think that he is John Calipari going to Arkansas waiting to happen. Because I think things have run their course. You wanna end things in a place where like it wouldn't end pretty... Once you've tasted the top, it's so much harder to stay there. Especially in this climate. So for Dabo, your story's written at Clemson, I think it's probably best for both parties for him to be elsewhere.

Subjective comparison of coaching career paths.

Fanta also gave us the blueprint for the college basketball season, which is officially back. While the freshmen like Cooper Flagg and Ace Bailey are getting the hype, Fanta thinks a certain team in the Big 10 is destined to finally finish the job on their home turf in Indianapolis.

Purdue will win the 2025 College Basketball National Championship in Indianapolis

The boilers have the pieces to, to cut down the nets and could do it in their home state. That gives me chills. [Purdue is my] top [team] right here, right now.

Purdue did not win the 2025 National Championship. They were a 4-seed and lost to Houston 62-60 in the Sweet 16. Florida won the title.

We wrapped things up with Hot Seat/Cool Throne, featuring Hugh Freeze's questionable pre-game golf habits and Big Cat’s mounting suspicion that the New Orleans Pelicans are pulling a Major League-style tank job just to get out of town.

The New Orleans Pelicans are 'soft quitting' the season to relocate

The Pelicans are just like soft quitting and gonna probably be in like relocate... they have no promotional calendar for the season... no bobbleheads... they're just soft quitting the Pelicans.

The Pelicans remain in New Orleans, and marketing lulls can be attributed to poor performance or front-office transition rather than relocation plans.

Just remember, if your team is struggling, at least you aren't the Blue Jays, who apparently just suffered the slowest, most painful death in the history of professional sports.

The Blue Jays' World Series loss is the worst loss of all time

I think that might be the worst loss of all time for the Blue Jays... the slow burn of the loss where if you're a Falcons fan and you're looking at 28 to three... those happen all in one game. This was 10 days where it just, and you had 3-2 going back home. It's just insane.

The Blue Jays' loss was historically unique and heartbreaking, but 'worst of all time' is inherently a matter of fan perspective.

See you on Friday for the Week 10 preview and hopefully fewer Jets trades.

Kyler Murray will be a great quarterback on a different team in three years

I think in like three years, Kyler Murray will be a very good quarterback on a different team... picture this Kyler Murray on the Saints.

This prediction relies on Murray being traded and finding success elsewhere within a three-year window.

The Green Bay Packers are a dangerous team because they are 'desperate' off a bad loss

If you're playing the Packers next, you gotta watch out because he's [LaFleur] gonna fix this and they're gonna come out with their hair on fire... You don't want to play the Packers against the Packers off a loss.

The Packers' performance following a loss is statistically variable, but the 'desperation' narrative is a staple of PMT psychology.

Ja Morant has lost his joy for basketball and is beefing with his coaches

My Hot Seat is Ja Morant... lost his joy. He's beefing with his coaches. This was like a week or so ago, but he was, you know, getting pushed in a press conference... and then last night he just said he's lost his joy.

Morant literally stated he lost his joy in a media session.

Curt Cignetti has permanently changed the timeline for college football program rebuilds

To me, coach Cignetti has totally changed the sport of college football. He's put everybody on notice saying, don't give me 2, 3, 4 years that it takes you to figure it out with a program. There's a real national championship contender in Bloomington and that's really cool.

Subjective claim about the impact on coaching culture.

Ohio State's defense is one of the best in the last 25 years

Ohio State has absolutely just dominated their way through this thing because they play smart football and they got the best defense. They got one of the best defenses we've seen in the last 25 years in college football.

Ohio State did finish the regular season with an elite defense, though their ultimate playoff success determines the 'all-time' legacy.

The Cleveland Browns need a 'detonation crew' and total organizational reset

The whole thing's gotta come down and you gotta get new people in there. They can't have the people who have made the picks in the past make 'em again. They need to bring in like the stadium detonation crew.

Subjective opinion on team management.
