NFL Week 10: CJ Stroud Is Elite, Mac Jones Is Finished, and the Jags Are Frauds
Week 10 gave us everything from elite quarterback play to the kind of offensive performance in Germany that should probably result in a formal apology to the city of Frankfurt. Big Cat and PFT Commenter kicked things off with the Fastest Two Minutes before getting into the absolute disaster that was Colts-Patriots.
The Mac Jones Era Hits Rock Bottom
If there was any lingering doubt about the situation in New England, this game buried it. Bill Belichick looked like he wanted to vanish into the turf, and Bill O'Brien spent the afternoon treating Mac Jones like a teenager who just crashed the family minivan. The interception Mac threw at the end was so bad it actually felt like art, and getting benched for a Bailey Zappy fake-spike-turned-pick was the poetic ending this era deserved.
Mac Jones is horrifically bad at quarterbacking
Mac Jones is horrifically, horrifically bad at quarterbacking in the NFL. [He's] officially official. It's not a guy.
The Stroud Boys and the Elite Texans
On the complete opposite end of the spectrum, CJ Stroud continues to look like he was built in a lab to play quarterback. The Texans went into Cincinnati and out-dueled Joe Burrow, and at this point, it's not just a 'nice rookie story' anymore. Stroud is operating at a level that most veterans never reach, and the Texans are firmly in the playoff hunt.
CJ Stroud is an elite NFL quarterback
I think we can say now there's enough evidence. The Texans are just good. And CJ Stroud is elite. He's a great quarterback.
Are the Jaguars Frauds?
The Niners returned from their bye and reminded everyone why they were Super Bowl favorites in September. They absolutely dismantled the Jaguars, who looked completely outclassed from the jump. Trevor Lawrence struggled with turnovers, and the defense couldn't get off the field. It leads to a very uncomfortable question about whether Jacksonville's win streak was more about a soft schedule than actual dominance.
The Jaguars are officially frauds
Jaguars. Are they frauds? I think they might be... they weren't really competitive against either [the Chiefs or Niners]. So yeah, I think they might be in the fraud tier.
While the Niners are back, PFT still has some concerns about the specialist position. Jake Moody might have been a high draft pick, but the confidence level in him hitting a big kick in January is currently at an all-time low.
The 49ers should move on from their kicker Jake Moody
Most people probably start looking at it in the Browns game. Their kicker [Jake Moody] isn't very good... if I was John Lynch, I would probably get a new kicker. That's all I'm gonna say.
Cleveland's Statement and the Vikings' Surge
Deshaun Watson had his most important half of football as a Cleveland Brown, overcoming a horrific start to lead a comeback win over the Ravens. The Browns defense remains terrifying, but if Watson can actually complete passes in the second half of games, they become a legitimate threat in the AFC.
Deshaun Watson has officially arrived as a Cleveland Brown
I think I might have to say it, Deshaun Watson has officially arrived as a Cleveland Brown because... [he] drove them down the field for the game winning field goal.
Meanwhile, the vibes in Minnesota are immaculate. Josh Dobbs is playing like a guy who actually knows the playbook, which is impressive considering he’s been in the building for about ten minutes. The Vikings have won five straight, and the data suggests they are a lock for the postseason.
The Vikings are definitely making the playoffs after their 5-game winning streak
The Vikings are on a five game winning streak... And they're the seventh team since the merger to start one in four and win the next five. And all six of those other teams have made the playoffs. So the Vikings, they're good. Like they're just a good team.
Josh Dobbs is a starting caliber quarterback in the NFL
You cannot tell me that Josh Dobbs is not a starting caliber quarterback in the NFL right now... Josh Dobbs is fun... At least Josh Dobbs has gotten himself an awesome backup quarterback contract. Yes. Like, for a long time.
Shootouts in LA and the "In the Hunt" Graphic
The Lions and Chargers played a classic Big 12 game where defense was purely optional. Dan Campbell continues to have the biggest stones in the league, going for it on fourth down when most coaches would play for the tie. While Detroit's offense is elite, their defense gave up yards to Justin Herbert like they were handing out flyers.
The Lions can officially win shootouts even if their defense struggles
I walked away from this game being like, I guess the Lions can win shootouts. But man, their defense like got torched... I guess they can win in different ways right now... your offense is so legit and watching that defense is, is tough on certain Sundays.
The Chargers defense is miserable despite having a defensive head coach
Justin Herbert played his ass off. And he has the second, second most money invested in a defense in the NFL... And a defensive head coach. And that defense fucking sucks. They're miserable.
In Washington, Sam Howell continues to be the only reason Commanders fans haven't completely checked out. He’s tough, he’s accurate, and he’s keeping them right on the edge of the 'In the Hunt' graphic, which PFT admits is a dangerous narcotic for fans of mediocre teams.
Sam Howell is 100% the guy for the Commanders
Sam Howell still the guy. He's 100% the guy. Yeah. He's great. He had 312 yards, three touchdowns, no receptions. He's not taking sacks like he used to... he's learning, he's growing.
Who's Back of the Week
Hank is officially out on the NBA mid-season tournament, mostly because the courts look like they were designed by someone who hates vision.
The NBA mid-season tournament courts are an abomination
I fucking hate the NBA mid-season tournament courts. Hate them. Don't understand why they do it. They all look gross. The suns was one of the most disgusting courts I've ever seen.
To wrap things up, Big Cat is starting a grassroots movement for the Heisman trophy. It's time to stop looking at team records and start looking at the guy in Baton Rouge who is putting up numbers that shouldn't be possible in the SEC.
The entire PMT crew should campaign for Jaden Daniels to win the Heisman
I think as a group we should get behind Jaden Daniels plus 550. I think we should get behind Jaden Daniels make that bet and try to bang on that drum... we have to do is basically propaganda stats of Jaden Daniels to get everyone in the world being like, did you know Jaden Daniels actually better than everyone else?
If the Patriots select Marvin Harrison Jr. with a top-three pick, Hank might actually smile for the first time since 2019.
