NFL Week 5 Recap: Broncos' Big Statement and Hank’s Hot Streak
Week 5 had a little bit of everything: foggy London morning football, a literal fight in the gambling cave, and the return of some vintage quarterback performances that we probably didn't see coming. Hank is walking on sunshine after the Patriots pulled off a massive upset against the Bills, and he wasn't shy about making sure everyone knew it was a new era in the division.
The Patriots have officially taken back control of the AFC East
Touchdown would be great. And the torch will be passed. It's, it's our, it's our division once again. Officially a torch passing.
Broncos Statement and Cage Chaos
The most electric moment of the day happened in Philadelphia, where Bo Nicks and the Broncos defense decided they weren't interested in being a measuring stick for the Eagles. After being dominated for three quarters, Nicks went nuclear in the fourth, and the defense racked up six sacks on Jalen Hurts. Big Cat is officially buying the hype.
The Denver Broncos are for real after their win against the Eagles
It felt like one of those, Hey, this is the win the Broncos needed... the Broncos are for real.
While the Broncos were celebrating, the gambling cave was melting down. Max and Hank nearly came to blows over a "Doddington Bones" nickname and some light physical contact that Max took very personally. PFT tried to offer some perspective on the Eagles' collapse, pointing to the schedule-making gods.
The Eagles' loss was due to an absolute gauntlet of a schedule catching up with them
I will say that the Eagles also have played just an absolute gauntlet of a schedule so far... at some point that caught up with them a little bit. And the Broncos are good enough to take advantage of that.
The State of the Quarterbacks
Dak Prescott continues to slice up defenses, this time taking apart the Jets. While some analysts are hesitant to crown him, Big Cat is ready to put him in the elite conversation for the 2025 season.
Dak Prescott is definitively in the MVP conversation
Dak is playing very good football... I would disagree with [Booger McFarland] because there's a couple guys who it's definitely close with, but Dak is definitely in the MVP conversation right now.
On the other side of that game, the Jets are in a dark place. Memes is officially out on the season and has some very harsh words for Justin Fields, despite the garbage-time stats.
Justin Fields is a loser
Justin Fields is perfect for this team... he's a perfect quarterback to lose games and that's it. That's all he is. He is a loser.
Meanwhile, in Indianapolis, the Daniel Jones resurgence is a real thing. The guy is seeing the field better than ever, and PFT thinks it's time we start respecting the product Shane Steichen is putting on the field.
Daniel Jones is a Pro Bowl quarterback
Daniel Jones, he's playing fast and he's like, he's super confident... Let's just talk about Daniel Jones is a Pro Bowl quarterback. He's good at football.
Chaos in the Afternoon
If you like messy football, the afternoon slate was your Super Bowl. The Panthers pulled off a wild comeback against the Dolphins, proving that there is still life in Carolina after the Meow Mix podcast tragically retired.
The Panthers' comeback win shows they haven't quit on the season
This was a passing of the torch of like, which team is gonna quit on the season? Because there was a moment in this game where it was 17-nothing [Dolphins], and then the Panthers ended up winning 27-24. So for a moment it was like, the Panthers are going to quit on this season. And then they took that torch and they're like, no, you quit on this season.
In Arizona, the Cardinals found a way to lose their third straight game on a walk-off play. Between Kyler Murray playing hot potato with the ball and players dropping it on the goal line, Big Cat has reached his limit with the desert birds.
I am officially sick of the Cardinals' shit
I'm sick of the Cardinals' shit. I'm just am. It's not good. I just, I I am, I don't... I'm just, I'm done with the Cardinal shit. It's been a long time since I've like truly enjoyed watching the Cardinals play football.
We also have to talk about Jaden Daniels. The Commanders' savior looked human for a quarter until he decided to change his cleats, at which point he became the best player on the planet again. PFT is fully convinced the "bad man" is here to stay.
Jaden Daniels is officially 'the bad man' and is back to his elite form
Jaden's back. Jaden's back. He looked good and he looked great. Especially after he changed the cleats... I think the bad man's back. He's the bad man, but good guy. Great guy.
Who’s Back and Playoff Baseball
To wrap things up, the crew looked at the MLB playoffs, where Big Cat and Max are both currently suffering. Craig Counsell’s decision-making for the Cubs has Big Cat pulling his hair out.
Pitching Matthew Boyd on short rest was an inexplicable mistake by Craig Counsell
Craig Counsell decided to pitch [Matthew Boyd] on short rest game one. He got absolutely lit up... I don't understand it. Why wouldn't you go bullpen? ... I feel like every short rest is always a disadvantage.
Max is feeling the weight of the Phillies' loss even more, fearing that the window for this specific group of guys might be closing faster than anyone in Philly wants to admit.
The Phillies' current competitive run is nearing the end
This, it's, it, it is nearing the end of our run. Like Zach Wheeler, who knows what he's gonna be when he comes back... Schwarber is probably gone. Ranger Suarez is probably gone.
Between Taylor Swift possibly being a "flop" and the Buccaneers being the most entertaining product in sports, it was a heavy Monday.
The Buccaneers are the most fun team in the NFL
The Bucks are the funnest team in the NFL bar none. So much fun to watch. Not even close.
Good luck to PFT and Hank on their $5,000 golf match, and remember, don't touch your friends' phones in the gambling cave if they're winning.
