Rob Gronkowski and Bart Scott on Patriots Drama, 9/11 Speeches, and Week 14 Picks
The vibes in the studio were a mix of high energy and total exhaustion as Max and Hank rolled into hour 18 of their 24-hour stream. While the boys were busy keeping a balloon in the air to earn an early exit, Big Cat and PFT broke down a wild week in the NFL that started with the Patriots actually winning a football game. Bailey Zappy looked like a functional human being for thirty minutes, effectively ruining the Patriots' draft position and dealing a massive blow to the Steelers' playoff hopes. Big Cat wasn't shedding any tears for Pittsburgh, though.
The Steelers are not a playoff team
The Steelers are bad. And I'm, listen, I don't think the Steelers are a playoff team. They shouldn't be. They're now officially outside of the playoffs, which is good for football.
The conversation shifted to the NBA's new shiny toy, the In-Season Tournament. While some purists are still confused by the brightly colored courts, Big Cat is all in on the spectacle and the fact that we actually have meaningful basketball in December.
The NBA In-Season Tournament is a win for Adam Silver
The in season Tournament has been very fun. It is a win for Adam Silver 'cause it's games that no one would care about. And now we care about him. Right. Like I, I watched him, I was like, this is fun.
Week 14 Picks and the McDermott Revelation
The Week 14 preview took a hard left turn when a report surfaced about Bills head coach Sean McDermott using the 9/11 hijackers as a motivational example of "communication" back in 2019. The guys were stunned by the timing and the sheer absurdity of the tactic. Big Cat, who had spent weeks "glazing" the Bills as a sleeper Super Bowl pick, officially hopped off the bandwagon.
The Bills are incapable of winning a Super Bowl under Sean McDermott after the 9/11 motivational speech revelation
Everything I said about the bills winning the super Bowl I'm throwing out... I'm gonna say you can't win a super Bowl if, if that happened. I'm gonna agree with that. I'm gonna go, you know what? So everything we said, we we're no more glazing... Glaze has been removed on this podcast.
As for the actual games, PFT is keeping a close eye on the Ravens. Even with Lamar Jackson dealing with his annual "illness," the loss of Mark Andrews looms large. PFT thinks the market might be overlooking just how vital the tight end is to that system.
Mark Andrews is to the Ravens what Travis Kelce is to the Chiefs
I feel like Mark Andrews is to the Ravens, what Travis Kelce is to the Chiefs. Yeah. He's not as good as Travis Kelce. He's still very, very good. One of the best. He's baby Kelce.
On the other side of that matchup, the Rams are looking like a team that could make some noise if they keep things close against Baltimore.
The Rams are a 'for real' team if they cover the +7.5 spread against the Ravens
I like the Rams actually to cover on this. I think the Rams are, they're sneaky. This is a Rams... we've got enough talent... I would say if they cover. Yeah. 'cause it's seven and a half. So if they lose by seven, I'm gonna say the Rams possibly still for real at that point.
In the NFC South, the "Saints stink" narrative reached a fever pitch. Between the Superdome losing its luster and the offense looking stagnant, the guys are wondering if a change at QB is the only way forward.
The Superdome is no longer a home field advantage for the Saints
The dome is not the dome. Yeah. It's, it goes, the dome has been aging along with a lot of the roster. Right... they're 0 and 5 against the spread this year at home... five and 15 against the spread at home since 2021.
Taysom Hill gives the Saints the best chance to win as the starting quarterback
I made the switch last week where I thought to myself like, Taysom [Hill] as a starting quarterback, I think he gives you the best chance to win right now if you have him. Yeah. But he's so hard to plan for.
Gronk and Bart Scott Bring the Heat
Rob Gronkowski joined the show to talk about hosting the LA Bowl and his transition into the media world. While he’s enjoying the analyst life, he admitted that watching every game is actually harder than playing in them. When asked about the future of his old coach, Gronk thinks Bill isn't going anywhere just yet.
Bill Belichick will stay with the Patriots next year
I truly believe that he will be here next year. But if he does go to another team like the Washington Commanders, I mean it doesn't really, you know, ri rival with the New England Patriots... But I just don't see that happening after this year. I think he'll definitely have another year to redeem himself.
He also gave a massive shout-out to a certain rookie in Detroit who is currently tearing up the league. Gronk sees a lot of himself in the way Sam LaPorta attacks the game.
Sam LaPorta is the player most similar to my style of play
I'm gonna go with the guy from Detroit right now. He's a rookie, Sam La Porta... He's fast, he's got great hands on the run. He breaks tackles as well... and he is willing to block as well. I won't say he brings it to the table like I do in the block game, but I would say he brings, he's the most similar guy that's up and coming.
Later, Bart Scott stopped by to provide the perspective of a certified Patriots hater. Bart didn't hold back on Belichick or the current state of the New York Jets. He also offered a legendary defense of Joe Flacco, though he admitted it took a specific throw for him to stop using a certain derogatory nickname for the Super Bowl MVP.
Stopped calling Flacco 'Fucko' after watching him throw a perfect 15-yard out — his arm strength is one of the strongest in NFL history
I used to call [Flacco] Fucko, that was my nickname for him. But that's when I stopped calling him [Fucko] — when he threw a 15-yard out, which is the hardest throw to make. It's the farthest ball. And he threw it on point. I stopped calling him Fucko. [Flacco] has one of the strongest arms in the history of football, in my opinion.
Bart also predicted a rough transition for the post-Brady era in New England, suggesting the fan base hasn't even begun to feel the true pain of mediocrity.
Fans will start to hate Bill Belichick as they realize the Patriots' era was more about Tom Brady than him
Pretty soon Bill Belichick is entering the sift Lord type of realm where I think that fans are gonna start to hate him. They realize that the Patriot wave was more about, you know, Tom Brady than it was him.
To wrap things up, the show featured a recap of the 24-hour stream highlights, including Hank's questionable treatment of PFT's dog, Blake, during a high-stakes game of knee hockey and the revelation of Max's "BMCs."
It turns out keeping a balloon up for an hour is a lot harder when Jerry is chasing you with a leaf blower.
