UFC Champ Daniel Cormier on UFC 230, Jon Jones, and the Raiders' Rock Bottom
Where were you when Nick Mullens became the greatest quarterback of all time? Thursday Night Football was a spiritual experience for anyone who loves watching Jon Gruden suffer, as Mullens and the Niners absolutely dismantled the Raiders. PFT Commenter admitted he was in his own head, questioning his entire existence after losing a bet to a guy wearing a black plastic wedding ring. Big Cat, meanwhile, is officially ready to bury the silver and black for good.
The Raiders are the worst team in the NFL
The Raiders are the worst team in the league. And that is also considering the fact they beat the Browns. But they are the worst team in the league.
It is truly a wild time in the NFL when a backup from Southern Miss looks like a first-ballot Hall of Famer against a professional defense. While everyone is wondering if the Raiders can actually get lower, the guys are already looking at the exit door for the coach with the ten-year contract.
John Gruden will likely be out as Raiders head coach by next year
The good news is you only have nine more years of John Gruden. [But] what year do you think he's going to be out, though? Probably next year.
Speaking of Mullens, Big Cat isn't just impressed by the performance; he’s impressed by the career path. By lighting up the Raiders on national television, Mullens essentially secured a decade of sitting on benches and cashing checks in various NFL cities.
Nick Mullens will have a job for life as an NFL backup quarterback
Nick Mullens will have a job for life... he basically will have a Chase Daniel career where he can get paid in a million different stops and never play again and be fine.
Week 9 Preview and Picks
The slate for this weekend is arguably the best of the season. Between Bama-LSU in college and some massive NFL matchups, there is plenty of room for bad decisions. Big Cat is high on George Kittle, noting that the tight end is a massive fan of the show and has physically transformed into a monster since they saw him in San Francisco.
George Kittle is the second-best tight end in the NFL behind Travis Kelce
George Kittle... now he's probably the second-best tight end behind Travis Kelce in the league. Sick brag on our part. But George, this is us saying, please come on the show now that you're bigger than us.
Looking at the NFC North, PFT Commenter is expecting a massive day for the Vikings against the Lions. He's got a very specific stat line in mind for Minnesota’s top target.
Adam Thielen will have 147 yards and two touchdowns against the Lions
To me, this feels like an easy Vikings win. And it feels like Adam Thielen putting up like 147 yards, two touchdowns... I'm Thielen 13 targets, 9 catches.
Then there is the showdown in the Superdome between the Rams and the Saints. After a shaky start to the season, the guys are convinced that New Orleans is back to being a house of horrors for visiting teams. PFT Commenter thinks the voodoo is officially back.
The Saints' 'dome magic' has returned to the Superdome
I want to say the Saints, the dome magic might be coming back... Ever since the ceremony with Drew Brees in the dome, the dome recaptured that magic.
Daniel Cormier on UFC 230 and the Art of the Grind
Double champ Daniel Cormier joined the show to talk about his upcoming heavyweight title defense against Derrick Lewis at MSG. DC is the ultimate "dad" fighter, and he leaned into the bit, explaining why his lack of a six-pack is actually a competitive advantage. He noted that big muscles just "suck oxygen" and that he loves watching ripped guys gas out while he’s leaning on their faces.
Naturally, the conversation turned to his legendary rivalry with Jon Jones. Despite the history and the failed drug tests, DC remains a pure competitor who wants the third fight regardless of the circumstances.
I would fight Jon Jones again even if he is on performance-enhancing drugs
At the end of the day, he won the fights, and that's all I want to do is win the fights. So if that means fighting him again, even if he's on the stuff, I mean, you have to do it. So, yeah, of course I want to fight him again.
As for the task at hand on Saturday night, DC isn't just looking for a win; he’s looking for a specific type of finish against the Black Beast. He wants the visual of a tired, heavy man gasping for air before the tap comes.
I will submit Derrick Lewis in the second or third round
I'm going to submit the guy. Second, third round... I usually like the submission because what leads to the submission is just domination, like just exhaustion.
DC also gave his perspective on the Khabib vs. McGregor fallout. Being part of Team Khabib, he saw the tension firsthand and doesn't think the outcome of a rematch would be any different because of the physical styles involved.
Conor McGregor cannot win a rematch against Khabib Nurmagomedov due to the matchup
Matchup-wise, this is just a bad matchup... Khabib doesn't get hit clean right away to get knocked out. He also has the ability to take him down, and also he's in great shape. He's not going to get tired... With Khabib, it didn't seem to have the same effect because Khabib's so big.
New Segments and the Return of Hue Boy
The show debuted a new segment called "Hue Boy," dedicated to the absolute nonsense coming out of Hue Jackson’s mouth during his post-firing media tour. Hue is currently throwing everyone in Cleveland under the bus while claiming he wanted to draft every star quarterback in the league. PFT Commenter already sees the next move in Hue's playbook for when the current excuses dry up.
Hue Jackson will eventually claim he was fired because he refused to fire Todd Haley
I think at some point in the next several months moving forward here, we're going to hear an interview with Hue Jackson where he says, 'I was fired because I wouldn't fire Todd Haley.'
Finally, PFT Commenter utilized Sabermetrics to call out Bryson DeChambeau for his latest attempt to be the smartest guy on the golf course. Bryson’s plan to leave the pin in while putting based on "coefficient of restitution" went over about as well as you’d expect.
Bryson DeChambeau is an asshole for deciding to leave the flag pin in while putting
He has decided that this year he will be leaving the pin in when he putts... depending on the coefficient of the restitution of the pin. What an asshole.
Go Tigers, and please don't let Nick Mullens take any more of our money.
