Connor McDavid is playing the best hockey of his career in this Olympic tournament

I don't know if McDavid's ever been this good... It's incredible. Like I think he gave guys maybe six or seven grade A scoring chances. He had seven shots on his own. Then the Finnish coach today said, yeah, McDavid is the best player in this tournament by a mile.

McDavid's brilliance is widely acknowledged, though 'best ever' is always debatable.

Sidney Crosby's Olympic injury is likely an MCL sprain

He was trying to stabilize on his right leg and it just, it opened up, which to me speaks MCL sprain... I'm hoping it's not too bad and it's just a grade one, maybe two MCL sprain.

Ryan Whitney correctly diagnosed Sidney Crosby's Olympic injury as an MCL sprain. Former NFL doctor David Chao confirmed Crosby likely sustained a low-grade left knee MCL sprain after his collision with Radko Gudas. Crosby missed the rest of the Olympics and was placed on IR for at least four weeks upon returning to the Penguins.

Team USA has a better defensive corps than Canada, but Canada has significantly better forwards

The D's better overall. I believe their forwards are significantly better than ours... Crosby being out, it's scary. And if he's out, that's a big difference... On D our D's better, their forwards are better.

A widely held scouting assessment of the two 2026 Olympic rosters.

The NBA is an absolute disgrace and sports fans should stop watching it in favor of the NHL

I think it's an absolute disgrace, the entire league... you guys are the biggest podcast in sports and truly get people away from the NBA and more into the NHL. ESPN won't do it, nobody else will do it, and you guys could do it and you refuse to do it.

The quality of sports leagues is a subjective fan preference.

Connor McDavid will leave the Oilers after the next three seasons

He's Gonzo win or lose. We have three seasons left with Connor McDavid. That's my opinion... after three years, so three more playoffs. I think that would've been 13 years for McDavid.

McDavid's free agency or trade status will be clear after the 2027-28 NHL season.

The Colorado Avalanche are the absolute 'wagon' of the NHL

Colorado is the wagon guys. Colorado's the one that you're scared of... I can't help but see them running through the entire league and then winning the Stanley Cup with ease. Right now they are on pace to break the Bruins record for most points.

The conclusion of the 2025-26 NHL season will verify if they win the Cup or set the points record.

Quinn Hughes is the second best defenseman in the world

Quinn Hughes is the second best defenseman in the world. He just got traded to the Wild from Vancouver. Shocking trade. So now you've got those three teams [Colorado, Dallas, Minnesota] and one of them is gonna be out in the first round.

Ranking players is inherently subjective.

The Anaheim Ducks will win a Stanley Cup within the next eight years

I'll guarantee a Ryan Whitney guarantee. Ooh, Anaheim wins a Stanley Cup in the next eight years. Anaheim's gonna get a cup... they have a wagon of like young stars coming.

This prediction has a 2033 deadline.

The Edmonton Oilers cannot win a Stanley Cup with their current goaltending

I said on Chiclets, like they don't have a goalie that you can win the Stanley Cup with. Now, once again, they were one game away from winning the cup with him... But if your starting goalie is getting pulled and losing his job in back to back playoffs, I don't think you have a Stanley Cup goalie. No.

This will be proven incorrect if the Oilers win a Cup with their existing goaltending core.

The Florida Panthers will win two more Stanley Cups if they bring back Sam Bennett and Jonathan Marchessault

I think Florida's not going anywhere. Realistically they could play again. If they get Marchessault and Bennett back, I still think they'll be fine. If they come back, they're probably gonna win two more.

Will be resolved by the results of future NHL seasons.

The NHL will have an ambidextrous 'Shohei Ohtani' player within 30 years

I think we're gonna get the Shohei of hockey. The Shohei Ohtani ambidextrous NHL player that would rock... You'd have the straight stick and then you drive wide and be unreal Righty. And you'd drive wide and be unreal lefty. I just think that at some point you're gonna see things that you never thought imaginable.

This is a long-term prediction for the future of the sport.

Joe Burrow's terrible first pitch was a staged viral marketing stunt by Fanatics

I think that whole fucking fanatics thing was just like, they basically listed like, alright, what's gonna go viral? Let's make a fake viral thing here... And they were like, Joe Burrow, we're gonna pay you like $2 million suck at throwing baseballs. That's the only way I can stomach it.

While unproven, it aligns with modern influencer marketing strategies.

The Stanley Cup Final will go seven games

This one I I said before the series seven games no matter what. Done deal. And now, I mean, how do you see this not going seven? It's, it's just, it's incredible and I want it to go seven.

The series ended in 7 games with Florida winning.

Connor McDavid is the greatest hockey player of all time

I just started running around the room... running around greatest hockey player of all time. I just started tweeting that like, it's just, it's incredible to watch him.

The Oilers are winning the Stanley Cup because I finally won a golf tournament.

Win a tournament leading. And that's why when we won it, I said the Oilers are winning the Cup. I just won something. I never win anything. Never.

The Oilers did NOT win the Stanley Cup. The Florida Panthers defeated the Edmonton Oilers 4 games to 2 in the 2025 Stanley Cup Final, winning their second consecutive championship.

Any average person could score an NHL goal if they played on a line with Connor McDavid.

I actually think any person could. If you started July 1st skating with a skating instructor... two to three times per week. You go to camp mid-September and then you were in camp and then you played on his line by every shift he was out there. You play with him by game 10, you're scoring.

A hypothetical scenario that cannot be realistically tested.

The winner of the 2025 US Open at Oakmont will be over par

The winning score at the 2025 US Open was +2.

The best way to lower your golf score is to get good from 100 yards and in

If you wanna get good at golf, number one I'd say is get good from a hundred yards and in. 'cause then all your bad [shots] drop... get in the hole in three shots, you know, like you're gonna, your scores are gonna get lower so much quicker.

This is a widely accepted fundamental of golf strategy and statistics.

Connor Hellebuyck will win the NHL MVP award this season

Arne [Knott] stuck to his, what what will probably be the MVP of the league. I think he might win MVP, forget the Vezina. He's got that locked up.

Nathan MacKinnon won the Hart Trophy (MVP) in 2024; Hellebuyck finished 6th in voting but did win the Vezina.

Jamie Benn is the player who deserves a Stanley Cup more than anyone else in the league

Number one, Jamie Benn. That's kind, that's kind of my, my player right now. Who doesn't have one that, that I feel like, God, that guy deserves one. He's, I mean, I think, 16 years in 17... a warrior, a beast, a true captain, a leader, and he is done it like teammates love him. He's done it for so long that if Dallas were to get one, that's kind of my guy.

Deserving a trophy is a matter of opinion.

Florida is the perfect team of rats and dirtbags that can bully anyone

Florida is just the fact they added Brad Marchand guys... I don't know if I've ever seen a player fit more perfectly into a team than the way he's kind of come into this team of rats and dirt bags. And that's a compliment by the way. And they bully teams.

The Panthers' physical style led them to a Stanley Cup victory in 2024, validating the assessment.

The Washington Capitals can physically beat up the Carolina Hurricanes in the second round

I think Washington can really kind of beat them up... I don't know if physically the, the Canes can play with Washington... Carolina fans are kind of all always all over biz... I don't even think if Carolina gets by Washington, like they can win the cup.

The Hurricanes actually beat the Islanders in the first round (not the Caps who were swept by the Rangers), so the premise of the matchup was incorrect for that specific year's bracket.

Carolina cannot win the Cup because Sebastian Aho is not a true superstar

Carolina fans are kind of all always all over biz. And I, and I gave them a bunch of props... and all those fans tell me aho aho I'm like, I love aho. But I just, he's like one little notch beneath like the true superstars. And, and so I don't, I don't even think if Carolina gets by Washington, like they can win the cup.

Carolina did not win the Cup. They beat the Capitals in the second round but lost to the Panthers 4-1 in the Eastern Conference Final. While Aho's status is debatable, the prediction that Carolina wouldn't win was correct.

Florida is the favorite and Toronto is the least likely to win the Stanley Cup among the final eight teams

Florida one. Dallas two. Vegas three. Washington four Edmonton five... Winnipeg six, Carolina seven. [Leafs?] Leafs eights perfect. You what? I guys I can admit Edmonton's an underdog here. And they get through Vegas and, and, and, and I come back on like if they beat Vegas, they're number one.

Florida did win the Stanley Cup as Whitney predicted them as the favorite. However, Toronto made it to the second round and took Florida to 7 games, performing better than 'least likely.'

International hockey tournaments like the Olympics are not legitimate without Russia involved

The worst part about four nations and the Olympics next year. Do you guys know? No, it's no Russia. Oh. So nothing is really that legit because best on, best on best hockey? Like you need Russia involved. It's just, you know what I mean?

The most amazing thing about the Ovy Gold chase is... He could be like 46 years old. Like you never know with Russians. So the fact that he's like, could be a little older is even crazier.

There is no proof Ovechkin's birth certificate is falsified; it remains a conspiracy theory.

Leon Draisaitl is more valuable to the Oilers than Connor McDavid this year

I'm an Oilers guy and Leon Draisaitl has just to me been the best player in the league. The most valuable player of the Oilers McDavid's had this great year still, but not McDavid. And then he's leading the league in goals by a lot.

Leon Draisaitl had an excellent 2024-25 season and was a Hart Trophy finalist, finishing near the top in voting. However, Connor Hellebuyck won the Hart, and Draisaitl's Oilers lost the Cup Final. The take has some merit as Draisaitl led in goals.

Stanley Cup finals prediction teams and winner: Colorado. Toronto. Colorado beats him. It'd be an awesome series. Yeah. And, and that's if only I'm saying that is if Florida and Tampa play in the first round.

This is the best chance the Maple Leafs have ever had to win the Stanley Cup

So hockey this year, so many storylines. I think the number one for me is that this is the best chance the Leafs have ever had to win the cup. Yes... 1967, the first is that, well the most recent one I heard is the last time both the Detroit Red Wings and Boston Bruins didn't make the Stanley Cup was 1967.

The Leafs had a strong run, beating the Senators in the first round and taking the Panthers to 7 games in the second round. It was arguably their best chance in years, but they still fell short.

The Washington Capitals are not legitimate Stanley Cup contenders despite their record

Why I don't think [the Capitals] are gonna win it... It's kind of just like a gut feeling. I think last year they were so bad and I know it's a different team. I'm like, how would this team be that good the next year? ... I don't really buy [them].

The Capitals were eliminated in the first round of the 2025 playoffs.

Florida, Tampa, Toronto. I'm taking all three Atlantics. I think that the only thing that'll stop that is whoever of those three makes the conference finals might just be beat to shit outta gas.

The Florida Panthers won the 2025 Stanley Cup, defeating the Edmonton Oilers. Florida was one of the three teams Whitney predicted.

Colorado to me is, they're the best team in the West. And if they play Dallas, which I think they will in the first round, one of those kind of unfair, like either team could win the cup and somebody losing first round.

Colorado was eliminated by Dallas in the first round in 7 games. They did not make it to the Cup Finals.

David Pastrnak should be a top five MVP candidate for carrying a talentless Bruins roster

The coolest story of the Bruin season is Pastrnak. He has a hundred points. The next guy has 55 points. That's crazy. It's actually one of the, he should be like probably top five in MVP for what he's done because he has nobody.

Pastrnak finished 7th in Hart Trophy voting in 2025, just outside the top five.

Gavin McKenna is a generational, McDavid-level NHL prospect

It's a kid, Gavin McKenna. Good hockey name... He is what looks to be one of those McDavid-type prospects. He had the record for points in the WHL or maybe the CHL... a true possibly game-breaking generational talent.

McKenna is not eligible for the NHL draft until 2026, so his 'generational' status is still pending professional evaluation.

NIL will cause the best Canadian hockey players to choose college over juniors, hurting American scholarship opportunities

American kids are gonna get shafted scholarship wise because now you're getting the best Canadian kids... now the best Canadian kids will play in those leagues at 17 and 18, and then they'll go to college and then they'll get a payday to go to college. Right. NIL. So a lot of American kids are probably gonna lose scholarships to some great Canadian players that couldn't otherwise come.

The 2025 and 2026 recruiting cycles showed a significant uptick in high-level Canadian players committing to NCAA programs.

Swayman eventually signed an 8-year, $66M contract ($8.25M AAV) in October, confirming the earlier numbers were indeed low compared to the final deal, though Sweeney publicly denied Whitney's specific claim about not calling for three weeks.

The Oilers' penalty kill is currently unstoppable and makes opponents look incompetent

Their PK has been outstanding since... it's clipping like 94%. It's just unstoppable what they've done. Every other team's power play becomes really bad against the Oilers. For Florida, there's so much skill there, but they're standing still and Edmonton pressures. They're getting breakaways shorthanded, they're scoring shorthanded goals.

The Oilers' PK was historically good during the 2024 playoffs, though they did eventually lose Game 7.

Connor Brown will completely change the narrative of his season if the Oilers win the Cup

Connor Brown was brought in this year... he didn't score for about 65 games. It was a nightmare for the guy. And I said before the playoffs, like, it doesn't matter how bad you are in the regular season, you can change the entire discussion of your season based on a playoff performance. If that third line can get a goal... Edmonton goes on and wins the Stanley Cup.

The Oilers lost Game 7, so while Brown had a good playoff run, the ultimate 'narrative shift' of a championship didn't happen.
