Takes
Villanova head coach Kyle Neptune is a worse coach than Nick Sirianni
I will not say a bad word about Nick Sirianni for the rest of the year... You don't have to watch Kyle Neptune coach basketball. [He is worse than Sirianni] without question. They lose to everyone. He has more... seven [losses to teams above 100 on KenPom] to two for four times as many years.
The Lions are definitively the best team in the NFL.
I start every week with saying the Lions are the best team in the NFL. And then I'm like, ooh, three and a half at home for the Texans... I don't want to be an idiot anymore. I feel like an idiot every single time. [I'm betting on them].
Analytics are flawed because they cannot account for the emotional impact of momentum on a football game.
There are some aspects of the game people don't believe in. It's crazy because people that truly believe in numbers, pure analytics, do not believe in momentum. They don't believe in the emotional part of the game. There's an emotion that goes throughout a player's body... this is not measurable. People that truly believe in the numbers don't understand how you can sit there and say, well, momentum has taken over.
John Madden's advice to ignore 'the book' and trust coaching instincts on fourth down changed my career.
I said to him, I was going by the book. [Madden] said, 'What book?' He said, 'Ron, you know enough football, you've done enough football to do these things. You know when's the right time to do it. Nobody else does.' I realized I was doing what was safe. What was acceptable. Because back then nobody went for it on fourth. From that point on, that's the way I looked at things.
The NFL is entirely a quarterback-driven league
I was asked in a press conference a couple years ago... what's the big difference between you guys and the other three teams in your division? My answer was quarterback... I asked the same question the other day to a group of people. What's the difference between Washington right now and Washington I had? Well, they got quarterback. It's a quarterback driven league, folks.
Christian McCaffrey is the ultimate professional because of his meticulous pre- and post-practice recovery routine.
[Christian McCaffrey] got out early, he warmed up before practice. He got done, he warmed down after practice. He went in, he took care of his body. He got in the ice tub, he got in a hot tub. He did all the extra stuff that you're supposed to do... he was that mature when he showed up [as a rookie]. He really is one of my favorite guys, just because of who he was and the way he did things.
The only way to successfully approach a doctor's physical is by dieting for three weeks beforehand so they don't yell at you.
I started counting calories this week. I started logging everything. I got a physical three weeks from the day I scheduled it so I could get three weeks of trying to lose weight preseason before I go to the physical... it's not going to be like, holy shit, you're gonna die. It'll just be not as bad.
The Chiefs follow a predictable pattern of looking beatable before executing perfectly on third down to win
The Chiefs are going to play every game the exact same way where you think the Chiefs might lose and then they're gonna be perfect on third down and they're gonna get a big defensive stop and Patrick Mahomes is gonna make a big play.
Todd Bowles is a coward for not going for two against the Chiefs
Todd Bowles is the biggest fucking coward in the world... You somehow got yourself in position where you can win the game, score a touchdown, and then you have the opportunity to go for two on the road Monday football against an undefeated team. Or you can kick an extra point like a coward, go to overtime and think that you can win an overtime against literally Patrick Mahomes.
Indiana should be ranked ahead of Ohio State and Texas because they are undefeated
I think you should just like, as a personal belief, the undefeated team should be ranked ahead of the team with a loss no matter what the schedule is like at this point in the season... Indiana's undefeated. And you could say, well they haven't beaten anyone. True. But if you go common opponents... Indiana beat Nebraska by a million.
James Franklin simply cannot win big football games
Can James Franklin win the big one? No... Ohio State is Penn State's big one. Yes. But Penn State is not Ohio State's big one.
The Lions are essentially unstoppable on offense
I feel like every team is a man short... They just have the perfect combination right now of Montgomery, who's your mutter and closer, Jahmyr Gibbs, who's your home run hitter. And oh, by the way, Jared Goff doesn't miss an open receiver. So they're, they're pretty much unstoppable on offense right now.
Brock Purdy's output through eight games hasn't been good enough for the 49ers' offense
The quarterback [Brock Purdy] has thrown 10 touchdown passes in eight games. It's not good enough. They're not good enough in the red zone right now.
The Tennessee Titans are the best two-win team and will play spoiler
Tennessee Titans... seriously, like they can, they legitimately can run the football. Bill Callahan's coaching the offensive line... J.C. Latham was the right pick at left tackle... they've been in a lot of games. They won last week. They put up 400 something yards of offense against Detroit the week before. That's a team... I wouldn't take that team lightly on any given week.
Bills OC Joe Brady is calling a masterclass in the passing game by creating easy space for Josh Allen
Joe Brady in Buffalo... is that guy. What he does by formations and his route combinations is he just creates space. It's easy throws for Josh and then at the end of the day when he has to make a play, he's still Josh Allen.
Josh Allen should be in the MVP conversation
Josh Allen should definitely be in the MVP conversation. He should be very much in it. Lamar [Jackson] probably should win it again because he's been insane, but so is Josh. Josh has been really good too.
The Dolphins are the best two-win team in the NFL
I think the Dolphins are by far the best two win team in the NFL.
The Cowboys are a bad football team with a lot of holes
The Cowboys are not good. They're not a good football team. They're not a playoff team. They have a lot of holes. They like building the entire offense out of just CD Lamb does not make any sense.
The Lions are currently the best team in the NFL
I'll say it, the Chiefs are undefeated, but I think the Lions is the best team in the NFL right now. If they were playing next week, I would take the Lions.
The Chargers have an identity and Jim Harbaugh is the reason
What Harbaugh does when you get a guy like Jim Harbaugh, he gives your team an identity. The Chargers have an identity. They play tough, hard football. And when you have an identity, you can win games.
Matt Eberflus is a loser and needs to be fired immediately
Matt Eberflus is a loser and he needs to be fired, which he won't be because the Bears will never fire a coach in the middle of the season... This team quit. It's an utter disaster. Lifeless garbage. He's never gotten on a plane on a Sunday been like, 'great win boys.' It's never happened.
The Cardinals are a good team and Jonathan Gannon is a good coach
Cardinals are good. I'm buying on the Cardinal stock. I mean, they credit to the Cardinals. I think they're a pretty good team. I made fun of Jonathan Gannon, but he's a good head coach.
Saquon Barkley is on the Christian McCaffrey level
I think it's fair to say that [Saquon Barkley] is on the McCaffrey level of like, he's a running back that can actually make a difference in your offense. He's so good. If they're one-on-one in space, the defense can't do anything.
Jason Kelce was in the right for smashing that kid's phone
Jason Kelce turned around, grabbed his phone, smashed it through the crust of the earth, awesome spike... I have no problem with that guy brought the F-word into it. He was very clearly harassing him. I stand with Jason Kelce.
Joel Embiid was justified in shoving the reporter
I am on Joel Embiid's side. This reporter Marcus Hayes wrote an article basically calling Joel Embiid... calling out his dead brother. You don't have to bring up Joel Embiid's family. Talk shit, get hit.
The New York Jets are the worst coached football team of all time
This is also the worst coach football team of all time. Oh, that's a lot of, all times. There's so many All times.
The Dodgers won the World Series because they are a fundamentally better team than the Yankees
The Dodgers did it by just being the better team and being the fundamentally better team. Because like, if you look at it... the Dodgers did, don't make mistakes like the Yankees made mistakes. And that showed a hundred percent in game five when the Yankees had a complete and utter meltdown.
The Dodgers are the new Yankees because they keep adding the best players to an already elite roster
The Dodgers are the new Yankees. That was the, that was the big thing. Like the the Dodgers. The Dodgers already had a super team and they're like, you know what we're gonna do? We're gonna add Shohei [Ohtani]. That's what the Yankees used to do. Yeah. So like that's, that's the Dodgers are the new Yankees and they, and they played fundamental Ball better than anyone else. They were the best team by far.
Ezekiel Elliott is completely washed up
Zeke is completely washed by the way. Zeke is completely washed. He's the only running back with 30 Carries who has yet to break or miss a tackle according to Sports Info Solutions.
The Lions are not currently the best team in the NFL because of the Aidan Hutchinson injury
I don't think they're the best team in the NFL... The Hutchinson's injury though does concern me. Like against bad football teams, you don't need a pass rush... but I'm concerned of those games when they have to play against a Lamar Jackson may be in a Super Bowl or you know, a Brock Purdy or, or or a a Jordan Love... can they stop 'em in the red? They need to get a three points in the red area. They can't give up a touchdown. Can they stop 'em in the red area? I don't think so right now.
Dan Campbell needs to evolve and stop taking unnecessary risks like fake punts
I love Dan Campbell, but he needs to evolve his play color. His, his, his coaching style. He, he, he can't act like he's a the hunter anymore. He's being hunted. You know, you, you're the good team. Your culture's in place. We don't have to run a fake punt in the opening drive... when you, me, everyone in the goddamn stadium knew it was gonna be a fake fucking punt.
Matthew Stafford is a first-ballot Hall of Famer
I think he's a first battle hall of famer, man. He's a stud... I feel like he's like a Aaron [Rodgers] and [Mahomes] hybrid where like he gets that pop that, that Aaron got. But he also has been changing arm angles and doing No looks back in Detroit 10, 15 years ago.
The 49ers lack mental toughness and play like they've already won a Super Bowl
San Francisco's kind of disappointed Me too though, honestly... they act like they've already won the Super Bowl, like the way they play and stuff. To me, they need a little more mental toughness. There's always a a story out there. Someone's hurt, someone's shot, someone's this, someone's that... How can you focus on the games? We don't, we don't focus on anything but what's going on outside the game.
The Steelers resemble the Legion of Boom era Seahawks teams
Pittsburgh's sneaky man... that team right now reminds me and gives me like, not, I'm not saying they are, but it's like those legion of being boom, super Bowl teams. Russ Wilson throws a teardrop here, deep ball there. He's got an explosive receiver to get a good run game and play really good defensive special teams. Like that's how they won in Seattle.
Bryce Young has the talent to succeed in the NFL given the right offensive system
I saw Bryce win the national championship with, with maybe better players than he is playing with now... he can do it. He's shown he can do it in the right system. His stature scared me... there weren't any braces. There weren't any Johnny Manzes at that size and stature that made it in the NFL.
Anthony Richardson is currently more of an athlete than a quarterback because he lacks consistency in the pocket
Anthony's stats didn't match. His ability and, and all, all ability doesn't make a quarterback. Now. You gotta be, you gotta win two minute, third down. I don't give a shit how fast you run. How high you jump... if you can't show me that you can do that in college, that to me, you're not a quarterback, you're an athlete... And he didn't exactly tear people up in college. You know, it was just combine superstar.
Lamar Jackson was a more accurate passer coming out of college than Michael Vick
Lamar can spin it coming outta college. It was a little bit raw, but when I look at him and Michael Vick, I thought he spun it more accurately than Mike did coming out. Now Mike got better Lamar's Lamar's there now.
Brock Purdy is not just a system quarterback
I don't think [Brock Purdy] is a system quarterback, but not necessarily could he play in other offenses that push it way down the field. He's in the perfect thing with Kyle [Shanahan]... It's a great marriage.
Andrew Luck is the ultimate quarterback prospect, possessing every top-tier trait
If I was gonna build all of [the QBs I've coached] into one, it'd be Andrew Luck. 'cause he had everything that they all had, you know, he had a photographic memory. He was as athletic stuff was off the charts, same as Cam Newton's. His, his recall was like Ben and Tom. His preparation was like Ben and Tom and Ben, Tom and Peyton.
Grabbing Mookie Betts' glove was the best use of $5,000 by a fan of all time
You go to that game and I saw people clowning 'em online saying you spent $5,000 for front row seats just to get kicked out. No, that's, that's maybe the most well spent $5,000 of all time for those guys. Yeah, they're, they're heroes.
The two Yankees fans who interfered with Mookie Betts are responsible for the Yankees winning Game 4
Those guys sparked the Yankees. Like I believe that those guys are responsible for this win in those bats waking up because basically the, all the Yankee fans sitting in, in Yankee stadium tonight were like, do something. And the Capobianco brothers are like, you know what? We'll do something.
The Colts had to bench Anthony Richardson because they were wasting a potential playoff season
The fact that you're so close in all these games, if you're the head coach, if you're Shane Steichen, you have to start [Flacco] because you're wasting what could be a playoff season. And also you also risk losing the locker room when all the other guys are dependent on the quarterback for their salary. They're not getting the ball, the offense isn't moving.
The Jets have officially hit rock bottom and can't possibly sink any lower
My theory is that they will not get any lower than they are right now. Like everyone's shitting on the jets. Everyone is shitting on the jets. Aaron Rodgers is drinking water with cayenne pepper in it. Pretty, I think it's, it's pretty low.
Mike Tomlin is a top five coach in the NFL
I can't believe that I ever doubted Mike Tomlin again after coming to the conclusion that Mike Tomlin is a top five coach in the NFL. I know he doesn't won a playoff game in a very long time, but all he does is run a great locker room and have a competitive team every year.
The Giants should sell everything at the trade deadline to extend the front office's job security
Should the Giants sell now? I think they should because Mr. Mara has already said, and I actually believe him that they're not gonna make any changes to the front office and coaching staff. So if you are the front office and you're not gonna get fired, why wouldn't you try to trade anything you can for draft picks and then extend your stay Because you're like, well we have draft picks And, we gotta see how they turn out.
The Steelers are one of the best teams in the AFC
I think that the Steelers are actually very good though. Yeah. I think what Russell Wilson's done to the offense... I think that the Steelers are one of the best teams in the AFC.
Matt Eberflus is entirely to blame for the Bears' loss to the Commanders
Basically all of this adds up to Matt Eberflus is to blame for this, which I came to that conclusion on Sunday night. But it's good to hear the players back it up. And then on top of all of that, we had a report just a couple hours ago that apparently Ben Johnson was interested in the Bears job last year.
Mike Elko is a great football coach and was the right hire over a 'sexy' name
It's a great reminder though, for Texas A&M who did the Let's get Jimbo Fisher and pay him a hundred million dollars... sometimes in college football, Mike Elko was not the sexy hire. He's just a very good competent, like nuts and bolts football coach... Mike Elko is a fucking great football coach.
Travis Hunter is the best football player in the country and it shouldn't be up for debate
I think if you're just basing this off, who's the best football player? That's the criteria, right? Yeah. Who's the best football player in the country? Yeah. I don't think that it's up for debate.
Doc Rivers is on the Hot Seat because the Bucks have no identity
My Hot Seat is Doc Rivers... They are one in three on the season 18 and 22 in the Doc Rivers era. Mm. And Giannis was talking in the post game and said, right now we don't have an identity... How are we gonna win the game? ... No identity's bad.
