Tom Segura, U.S. Open Chaos, and the Billy Football Suspension Ruling
The U.S. Open at Brookline provided a finish that was both incredible and emotionally devastating for anyone who held a Will Zalatoris ticket. Big Cat and PFT were riding hard for Zalatoris, but instead, they watched Matt Fitzpatrick put on a clinic on the back nine. Big Cat admitted his analysis of the tournament isn't exactly rooted in the data you'll find on the PGA Tour website.
Will Zalatoris has to figure out his putting based on vibes
I actually afterwards said that Will Zalatoris has to figure out his putting... I do strokes gained by vibes. He missed a big putt. He, I would say he lost somewhere around $50,000 worth of strokes gained for me personally.
Despite the heartbreak, Big Cat isn't jumping off the Zalatoris train. In fact, he’s doubling down until the kids' inheritance is at risk.
I will bet Will Zalatoris for every Major until he finally wins one
I am now financially and emotionally attached to Will Zalatoris to a level that I will bet him significantly for every Major, until he wins one. And if he just becomes one of those guys that never wins one, well, my kids won't go to college.
There was a lot of salt to go around regarding Fitzpatrick’s win. From the lucky lie on the 15th to the hardware itself, the guys found plenty to complain about. Big Cat even suggested that certain dental requirements should be met before hoisting a major trophy.
You shouldn't be able to win a Major while wearing braces
Not to teeth shame, but I don't think you should be able to win the US Open with braces... I'm happy that he's getting his teeth fixed... but in the moment the take was, this is bullshit. Take his trophy away.
NBA Finals and Media Beefs
With the Warriors clinching the title, Hank had to face the music regarding the Celtics. While the loss hurts, Hank is still high on the future of the roster in Boston, even if the rest of the world is ready to bury Jason Tatum.
The Celtics are a super young core and they will definitely be back in the Finals
It's like, they're super young and they're going to be back. And the position [Brad Stevens] is in... he is now going to be able to help the team get better through the front office. It's not drastic changes. Don't need to be made.
Outside of the actual games, the media circus surrounding the Finals brought us the return of the Skip Bayless and Stephen A. Smith drama. PFT broke down the "Sleepless in Seattle" vibe the two former partners are currently projecting and predicted when the ultimate reunion will take place.
Skip Bayless and Stephen A. Smith will reunite when LeBron James retires
Eventually they'll get back together. I actually think that they're going to get back together. When LeBron James retires, when he finally hangs up for good, they should do a reunion episode to debate his legacy.
Who’s Back and a Huge Announcement
Who's Back of the week featured everything from Joe Biden’s legendary bicycle fall to the return of Game of Thrones characters. However, the biggest news came from PFT himself, who put to rest any rumors about his future with Barstool Sports.
I've officially signed a new contract with Barstool and the show will go on
I signed a contract on Thursday. So I'm coming back. The show goes on, start all the haters who are crying and weeping. This is the place... I love doing this show. There's no more fun place to work. So I'm happy to be sticking around here.
Big Cat also used the segment to highlight a truly insane take from Dan Dakich regarding the Indiana Pacers and Reggie Miller.
Dan Dakich's take that the Pacers were wrong to pick Reggie Miller over Steve Alford is stupid
He tweeted interesting Pacers are praised for picking Reggie Miller over Steve Alford in 1987. Yet Pacers have not won a single thing... what we do know is nothing was won with Miller. That's. I mean, that's a, that's a hell of a take... it's a stupid take and we'd debate it.
Tom Segura in Studio
Comedian Tom Segura joined the show to discuss his new book, *I’d Like to Play Alone, Please*. The conversation touched on Tom’s dad’s legendary ability to walk away from boring conversations, the time Tom found a nearly-dead motorcyclist in a field, and his escalating gift war with Bert Kreischer. The interview also sparked an idea for a PMT self-own.
Pardon My Take should do a 'Worst Of' episode featuring the most awkward interviews
We've tossed around the idea on this show... that we should do a worst of where it's like literally our worst interview. Narrate maybe around it... I'm going to guarantee that for the audience, we're going to do a worst thing.
The Monday Ruling: Billy Football
To wrap up the show, the guys had to address the elephant in the room. Following a series of incidents, including showing up drunk to a taping and missing work during the Finals, Big Cat and PFT announced a one-month suspension for Billy Football.
Billy Football has taken his position for granted and needed a suspension
I think Billy is very entertaining... The problem that I see going forward right now is that Billy has taken advantage of this show... and it reached a tipping point... because he didn't come to work. He was drunk and he didn't come to work... he is a weird combination of him kind of being entitled and kind of taking for granted the spot he's sitting in.
Billy won't be on the show or Macrodosing until mid-July. As the guys explained, it’s about respect for the listeners and the work that goes into making the show. Mount Rushmore season starts Wednesday without him, but hopefully, a month in the wilderness (or just at a different desk in the office) will help Billy realize that "entertaining clients" isn't a valid excuse for missing a Thursday show.
At least we still have the Billy jar to look forward to.
