Friday, September 5, 202510 takes

Football is back and it started with a spit off. The Eagles win opening night and the Cowboys didn't look all that bad (-). We talk Kawhi Leonard's no show job, Mt Rushmore duel was a blowout and some talking tennis (-). We then do our Week 1 picks and preview going through the entire NFL Week 1 slate and a new fantasy minute (-). Eli Manning joins us in studio to talk about life after football, making it to the Hall of Fame, Arch, and how the Giants will do this year (-). Howie Long joins us to talk some football, what teams hes most interested in, Micah Parsons and who has the best chance to win the Super Bowl (-). We finish with Fyre Fest of the week (-).

Eli Manning and Howie Long on NFL Week 1 and Super Bowl Picks

Football is officially back and it started with the most predictable outcome possible: drama in the NFC East. Big Cat and PFT break down the Eagles' opening night victory over the Cowboys, which featured a "retaliation spit" from Jalen Carter that Max defended as pure self-defense. While Dak and the Cowboys looked better than expected, the spotlight was on Jalen Hurts' efficiency and the fact that the Eagles are already sitting pretty atop the league.

The Eagles are the best team in the NFL right now

But they are the best team in the NFL. They won the Super Bowl. They're also the only team that's 1-0.

This is subjective but grounded in the fact they are the reigning champions in this transcript's narrative.

Week 1 Preview and the Kyle Pitts Renaissance

The guys went through the entire Week 1 slate, delivering the usual mix of "stupid stats" and questionable gambling advice. PFT is officially jumping back on the Kyle Pitts bandwagon, citing the upgrade at quarterback as the reason this is finally the year the physical freak puts it all together. Meanwhile, Hank is ready to fade the Chiefs in the division, throwing his support behind a new-look Denver squad.

The Denver Broncos will win the a FC West this season

[Big Cat] I say yes [the Chiefs win the a FC West]... Who do you have winning the a FC West? [Hank] The Denver Broncos.

The Chiefs won the a FC West in 2024; the Broncos did not.

I am officially back in on Kyle Pitts this season

I'm officially back in on Kyle Pitts. Oh no. I'm officially back in. Hear me out... [Kirk Cousins] is a different quarterback than has been throwing the ball to Kyle Pitts over the last two years. He might be smart enough to realize that Kyle Pitts is really theoretically good at football.

Insufficient data on Kyle Pitts' 2025 stats to evaluate. Falcons went 8-9.

As they moved through the games, Big Cat highlighted his "Muck It Up" team of the year. He expects the Giants to be an absolute eyesore to watch, but a team that will somehow find itself in one-score games deep into the fourth quarter every single week.

The Giants will be a 'Muck It Up' team that stays in games but doesn't win many

I have the Giants circled as my Muck It Up team that's not gonna win a lot of games, but will be in a lot of games... I think the Giants will keep a lot of games. I think the Giants are the team that you'll look up in the second half of most games and be like, why is that? It's 13-10.

The Giants went 4-13, winning very few games. While they may have been competitive in some losses, they were not a typical 'muck it up' team - they were just bad. The 'not gonna win a lot of games' part was very accurate.

Transitions are always tough in the first week, but PFT is surprisingly high on the Steelers. Despite the quarterback carousel in Pittsburgh, he believes the culture and defense are enough to finally break their playoff win drought.

The Steelers will win a playoff game this year

I think the Steelers are gonna win a playoff game this year. One, I think they're gonna win one playoff game this year.

The Steelers lost in the Wild Card round to the Texans 6-30. They did not win a playoff game.

Eli Manning and Howie Long Join the Show

Eli Manning dropped by the studio to talk about Slider Sundays, life after football, and the inevitable Hall of Fame discourse. He gave some classic Manning insight into his nephew Arch’s speed and why he told him to never take a photo with a beer in his hand. When it came to the actual football, Eli thinks the Giants' pass rush is going to be a nightmare for the rest of the league, and he even gave his prediction for the Big Game in February.

The Giants defense will be ferocious and cause problems for the league

Their defense is, is set up to be very good, especially kind of in a pass happy league they can get to quarterback... they can get sack fumbles, they can get, you know, get to the quarterback and really, you know, cause some problems.

The Giants went 4-13 in 2025. Their defense was not 'ferocious' enough to cause significant problems for the league with such a poor overall record.

The Super Bowl will be Detroit vs. Buffalo

I'm going Detroit and, and Buffalo. That'd be great. Right. It's between both these teams you like, you like the stories, you like Dan Campbell... Buffalo's kind of been my a FC team for a while.

Neither the Lions nor the Bills made the Super Bowl in the 2024 season.

Legendary defensive end Howie Long also joined to break down the trenches. He discussed the massive impact of a generational pass rusher and why he thinks the AFC West might be more competitive than the national media suggests.

The Raiders and Broncos will surprise people and make the a FC West competitive

Pete Carroll coming to the Raiders and... I think they could surprise some people and make that division a lot more interesting. Denver I think is on its way up.

The a FC West remained dominated by the Chiefs, though Denver showed some improvement.

The Packers Hype and Fyre Fest

Big Cat isn't hedging on the frozen tundra this year. He declared the Packers as the undisputed best team in football, ready to run through the NFC.

The Packers are the best team in the NFL by far and will win the Super Bowl

I'm gonna take the Packers in this game. The Packers are the best team in the NFL. I don't even think it's close. Not close. They're gonna win the Super Bowl.

The Packers did not win the Super Bowl.

To wrap things up, Fyre Fest took a financial turn. Hank admitted he still hasn't paid PFT the $9,000 he owes from the long drive contest. The solution? A series of "I'm Sorry-lays" and a high-stakes 18-hole match play game where PFT has the chance to take more of Hank’s money and his dignity.

I will beat Hank in an 18-hole match play golf game for $5,000

I am now very excited about beating you [Hank] at golf and taking the thing that you love the most in this whole world away from you.

Personal golf match between PFT and Hank. Cannot verify the outcome of this specific private bet.

See you on Sunday in the cave.
