Michael Rapaport on Knicks Misery, Hating Steph Curry, and NBA Draft Rigging
Big Cat is in a dark place. We started the show with a legitimate meltdown because Hank managed to jinx a Cavs-Raptors over bet by telling Big Cat "don't worry, you got it" with four minutes left. Naturally, the teams stopped scoring entirely, the bet missed by a single point, and Big Cat is now convinced the entire series is a waste of human life. Between the Raptors being a "pile of shit" and the Cavs being too locked in, the energy is at an all-time low for the Eastern Conference.
The Cavs vs. Raptors series is over and I'm not watching another second of it
This series is going to be brutal to watch. Maybe the Raptors play close for four quarters in Toronto for one game, but I don't even give them that... the Cavs are locked in. They're on a different level right now. So this series is over as far as I'm concerned.
Speaking of NBA misery, the Draft Lottery went exactly according to the statistical projections, which is the most boring outcome possible. While PFT thinks it was a Nate Silver wet dream, Big Cat is leaning into the deep-seated conspiracy culture that makes the NBA great. If Dikembe Mutombo is tweeting congratulations to Philly hours before the envelopes are opened, you can't tell us there isn't a frozen envelope somewhere in a freezer.
The NBA Draft Lottery was rigged for Philadelphia
I actually am going to side with Philly on this one and say that it was rigged for Philly.
Michael Rapaport Joins the Show
Friend of the program Michael Rapaport stopped by to help the guys prepare for their move to New York. Rapaport immediatey shut down Big Cat's fears of being mugged, noting that it’s not the 90s anymore and the city actually smells decent. The conversation quickly shifted to Rapaport's legendary status in the Celebrity All-Star games, where he claims his defensive prowess has actually overshadowed his acting career.
The 'Rock N Jock' era celebrities would beat current ESPN Celebrity All-Stars
The old rock and jock days of the 90s, the MTV rock and jock days, we would definitely, if you took the best players from then, we would definitely be able to compete with the ESPN celebrity all-star game guys for sure. No doubt. There's not a lot of ball movement with the ESPN guys. It's a very self-centric game.
As a die-hard Knicks fan, Rapaport is currently living in a state of sports purgatory. He’s rocking with Carmelo Anthony because Melo chose to stay in the "three-ring circus," but he’s reached a point of exhaustion with the team not even being invited to the draft. We also discussed the complex art of hating LeBron James. Rapaport admitted that while LeBron is a "beast" and his top pick to start a franchise, the "Decision" era theatrics make him incredibly easy to root against.
LeBron James is the first player I would pick to start a team today
If you're starting a team today... the first person I'd pick right now would still be LeBron James.
Then there’s the Steph Curry problem. Big Cat and PFT are leading the charge on Steph Curry hate, specifically focusing on how he chews his mouthguard like an asshole. Rapaport isn't quite there yet, but he sees the vision.
Steph Curry is easy to love but I understand why people want to start hating him
[Steph Curry] is everything right in terms of... but he's not trying to be everything right. I think he's just a genuinely nice guy and a chill dude... but if you want that [hate] bandwagon I understand.
PR 101 and Media Watchdog
In a very necessary PR 101, PFT suggested that Steven Adams needs to lean into his New Zealand roots to survive his recent "little monkeys" comment. The strategy is simple: hire an interpreter and claim a concussion made him say it. Meanwhile, Big Cat has the fix for Tiger Woods' fading career. It’s time to ditch the sleek Nike gear that reminds everyone of 2000s Tiger and start wearing stiff cotton shirts from Costco.
Tiger Woods should ditch Nike for Champion or Costco to lower expectations
I think it's time for Tiger Woods to ditch Nike because you see Tiger Woods in the Nike and you think of early 2000s... height of his powers. And you're like, why is this guy not the same? I think he needs to be sponsored by like Champion... or like Costco.
We wrapped things up with the debut of Media Watchdog. The guys took a look at ESPN's new site, The Undefeated, and the online reaction from "persecuted" white males wondering when they'll finally get a voice in sports media. PFT provided a helpful list of about thirty existing websites that might cater to that specific demographic if they feel left out by the new venture.
The Undefeated website is racist against white people
I kind of see what they're saying that the Undefeated is racist... Listen, we've sat here long enough as white males being persecuted. When are we going to get our say in sports media?
If you see Big Cat staring blankly at a play-by-play sheet today, just leave him alone; he's still looking for that one missing bucket.
