Jon Anik on UFC 244, Dean Blandino on Replay, and a Nats World Series Recap
The Washington Nationals are World Series champions, and PFT is officially a title-winning fan. It was a bizarre series where the road team won every single game, leading Big Cat to coin a brand new term for the feat.
The 2019 World Series is a 'Cuck Sweep' because the road team won every game
The first ever cuck sweep in the history of American Sports for games won on the road and the other man Stadium. Yep, The cuck Sweep has occurred...
While the Astros are left wondering why AJ Hinch pulled Zack Greinke after only 81 pitches, the Nationals are celebrating a run that seemed impossible back in May. The guys discussed the Gerrit Cole drama, as he immediately distanced himself from the team by wearing a Scott Boras hat during his post-game media availability. PFT even threw some revisionist history out there regarding the most controversial decision in recent Nats history.
The Washington Nationals were right to shut down Stephen Strasburg in 2012
I'm going to say they did the right call on the Strasburg shutdown. I'd agree and I want to write they want Flags fly forever. That's right. Absolutely correct.
Big Cat also found a way to make this about his Chicago Bears, claiming Matt Nagy is using the Nats' turnaround as a blueprint for a mid-season resurgence. It’s a reach, but when you're desperate, a PowerPoint presentation about a baseball team is apparently what passes for coaching.
The Washington Nationals' World Series win has officially turned around the Chicago Bears' season
I need to say thank you because the Nationals have directly turned around the bear season Matt Nagy put a Out there showing the Nationals today. He is insane. He's mad [Nagy] is so insane fucking to this a fucking PowerPoint.
UFC 244 and the BMF Belt
Jon Anik joined the show to preview the massive UFC 244 card at Madison Square Garden. The headliner features Jorge Masvidal and Nate Diaz fighting for the "Baddest Motherfucker" title. Anik broke down the Nate Diaz USADA scare from earlier in the week, reinforcing the idea that Diaz is one of the most genuine guys in the sport.
Nate Diaz is the cleanest athlete on the UFC roster
It's also probably the cleanest Athlete on the roster right a guy who immediately screamed innocence from the rooftops, which you would want any got to do. I always wonder why more guys if they do get flagged don't immediately do what Nate Diaz did... because then people really feel like you're innocent in this case obviously he was.
Anik also looked ahead to the 2020 calendar. While the MSG card is the current focus, the looming return of the sport's biggest star is the shadow hanging over every conversation in the MMA world.
Conor McGregor will return on January 18th against Donald 'Cowboy' Cerrone
I think it's going to be January 18th our first pay-per-view of 2020 in Las Vegas, Nevada. I mean he has hinted at that date other Fighters have hinted that he has contracts in hand. So I'm hopeful for January... I think Cerrone he's probably got the inside track.
Fixing the NFL with Dean Blandino
Former VP of Officiating Dean Blandino stopped by to address the elephant in the room: NFL officiating has been a disaster. Between the pass interference review mess and the roughing the passer calls that seem to change every week, the guys pressed Blandino on how to actually fix the product. He suggested the league needs to stop being so precious about certain calls and focus on what actually matters for player safety.
The NFL should allow reviews for player safety fouls like targeting and roughing the passer
I'd rather have the NFL review player safety fouls like college rules to targeting versus pass interference. I think pass interference is way too subjective... I would like to see some form of Replay on some of these roughing the passer calls or hits on defenseless players. I think that makes more sense for the NFL.
Blandino also confirmed that the onside kick is officially dead in its current form and needs a radical overhaul if the league wants to keep the end of games exciting.
The NFL needs to fix the onside kick to facilitate late-game comebacks
The onside kick with all the changes now used to be like a 13 percent success rate last year went down to 8 now we're under 4 percent. Literally if you don't have an onside kick, then the two score game late in the fourth quarter, you got no chance... the league definitely has to look at this.
Week 9 Picks and This League
It’s a massive Week 9 in the NFL with the first true London morning game of the season. Big Cat is feeling confident in his "Can't Lose" parlay, while the guys debated whether the Browns are actually as dead as they look. Big Cat thinks there's still a pulse in Cleveland despite Baker Mayfield's recent sparring sessions with the media.
The Browns will rebound and could make the playoffs at 9-7
I think the Browns are going to win this week. I really do and I think sometimes I think they're going to change the narrative their season. We actually went through the schedule on Monday show the Browns have a path if they can. The games are supposed to win it will basically come down to playing the Ravens and Steelers twice and they can get into the playoffs at 9 and 7 in the AFC.
In the NBA, the Golden State Warriors are officially in the gutter. With Steph Curry's broken hand and the team looking like a G-League squad, Big Cat is ready to dance on the grave of the dynasty.
The Golden State Warriors' dynasty is officially over
This mother fucking league cat Warriors are dead Warriors. Karma is empty. They empty the tank on the karma. Steph Curry is trash.
Meanwhile, in Philadelphia, the vibes couldn't be more different. Joel Embiid and Karl-Anthony Towns got into a wrestling match that resulted in multiple suspensions and a social media war involving Ben Simmons and Jimmy Butler. Despite the lack of hardware, the city of Brotherly Love has found its soulmate in Embiid.
Joel Embiid is the most beloved sports figure for an athlete who hasn't won a championship yet
Is there a city that loves a player more than Joel Embiid is loved in Philly? ... He is Philly. I would say that he is the most beloved sports figure in a given City that hasn't really won anything [yet].
To wrap things up, the guys held an exit interview for PMT Sports Biz intern Jake Marsh as he heads off to call games for Vermont. While he's been a loyal soldier for the Sports Biz brand, he revealed where his true loyalties lie if a certain tournament matchup ever happens.
I would root for Vermont over Syracuse if they played in the tournament
I didn't grow up a Syracuse fan. So but now that you know that now I know people ask me all the time if they play each other in this year's tournament. I would root for Vermont because wow.
Good luck to Bubba at his first Dead and Company show, and remember to pass the weed to your neighbor.
