A side tangent on our support for the A's and fuck you to John Fisher (-). Heat/Celtics Game 1 and Jimmy Butler continue to be the best player in the playoffs (-). Kirk Goldsberry joins us in studio to talk hoops, who he thinks gets to the Finals, Adjustments in each series, Wembanyama and much more (-). Randy Moss joins us to talk Preakness, give us picks and a special appearance from Mike Tirico and Mage the Horse (-). We finish with Fyre Fest of the week (-).

NBA Playoffs with Kirk Goldsberry and Randy Moss’s Preakness Picks

The Jamal Murray Game has arrived. After a back-and-forth three quarters where the Lakers actually looked like they had a handle on the altitude, Murray went nuclear with 23 points in the fourth quarter to put the Nuggets up 2-0. PFT is officially sold on Murray as a big-game hunter, while Big Cat couldn't help but notice that the King might finally be feeling his age after some uncharacteristic misses at the rim.

Jamal Murray has officially arrived as a clutch postseason player

I was gonna say Jamal Murray has arrived officially as like a clutch postseason player. That fourth quarter was awesome. Go nuggets.

Murray's performance in the 2023 playoffs, leading to a title, widely cemented this reputation.

LeBron James looked old for the first time in these playoffs

The story is LeBron James looking old for the first time cause whether it was the miss dunk, whether it was the flops... he just for the first time this these playoffs, he looked a little off.

While LeBron was injured (foot), the Lakers were swept by Denver in this series.

While the Nuggets are rolling, the conversation around the Lakers turned to LeBron’s legacy and his current struggle from deep. PFT’s mom apparently has some strong thoughts on the GOAT debate, specifically regarding how many years it took for LeBron to rack up his stats. Even with the Lakers down two games, PFT isn't jumping ship on his series prediction just yet.

LeBron James is a 'stack compiler' compared to Michael Jordan

So 13, if you take, if you take LeBron's first 13 years, who scored more points? That was her, that was her question. I don't know the answer to that question, but I think it's more fair way to join to, to judge it. And then she [PFT's mom] just wanted to know over and over again why they don't call traveling anymore... the answer no, she, her, her point was that he's played more years than Jordan. So he is kind of a stack compiler.

Whether LeBron is a 'stack compiler' or simply has unprecedented longevity is a subjective debate in the GOAT conversation.

Heat Culture vs. The Town

Turning to the Eastern Conference, the guys broke down the Heat’s Game 1 win over the Celtics. Hank is understandably stressed, mostly because Joe Mazzulla seems more interested in watching *The Town* four times a week than calling a timeout during a 46-point Heat quarter. Big Cat pointed out that the mental gap between these two teams is cavernous, specifically when comparing Jimmy Butler to the Sixers team the Celtics just dispatched.

Jimmy Butler has more mental toughness than the entire Sixers organization combined

The Heat deserve a ton of credit cause the Heat are better than the Sixers and more than that, the Heat are just tougher, mentally tougher than the Sixers. Jimmy Butler has more mental toughness than the entire Sixers organization combined.

Butler led an 8-seed Heat to the Finals while the Sixers remained stuck in the second round.

If the Celtics lose Game 2 against the Heat, I will be at the panic button

I think if we lose game two I'll be officially panic button out. But I think if we win game two, we're back.

The Celtics did lose Game 2 and went down 3-0 before rallying to force Game 7, where they ultimately lost.

Austin Reaves will get a cool haircut and tattoos next year

I wanna call my shot real quick. Austin Reaves is gonna get a cool haircut next year. He's definitely gonna upgrade his look and maybe add some tattoos.

Austin Reaves largely maintained his clean-cut look through the 2023-24 season.

Frost delays in golf are soft

If you can't just... frost delay. You see frost delay that's soft. That is soft. There's frost on the grass. We can't play.

Subjective opinion about sport toughness vs maintenance requirements.

The Oakland A's are getting a raw deal and owner John Fisher is a piece of shit

It just dawned on me that the A's are getting such a fucking raw deal and the city of Oakland's getting such a raw deal... John Fisher. Fuck you John Fisher. Piece of shit. You fucking dick.

Subjective opinion on ownership, though widely shared by baseball fans.

The Victor Wembanyama hype has gotten hilariously out of control

The Victor Wembanyama hype has gotten so hilariously outta control. Wodge said he was maybe the greatest prospect in the history of team sports. People are saying he is a bigger deal than LeBron James, which is just factually incorrect.

Culturally, LeBron's 2003 hype remains the gold standard, though Wembanyama's on-court rookie season was historic.

If Victor Wembanyama is only as good as Hakeem Olajuwon or Anthony Davis, he has not met expectations

Brard Brew crew shout out, said he has expectations for We Bin Yama to be one of the best players ever. If Webe Yama is [Hakeem Olajuwon] or Anthony Davis, he has not met expectations. He has to have a career like Kareem, Jordan, LeBron, Shaq, or Duncan.

This is a subjective standard for success, but framing Hakeem Olajuwon as a floor for expectations is an extremely bold take.

Erik Spoelstra is the best coach in the NBA

I think Eric Spoelstra is the best coach in the NBA I think with all due respect to to to Steve Kerr and Greg Popovich right now what he's doing.

Spoelstra took an 8-seed to the Finals this year, further solidifying this widely held opinion.

LeBron James has never played a player like Nikola Jokic in the playoffs

I don't think as great as LeBron James' career has been, he's ever had to play a player like Jokic in the playoffs... Jokic is such a unique force... He's averaging a 30 point triple double in these playoffs, which is insane.

In terms of archetype (passing 7-footer), Jokic is indeed unique in LeBron's playoff history.

The 2023 NBA playoffs are the most 'f-ed up' in NBA history

I will also remind you Big Cat that in our playoff preview in Austin, I, I was clear that this is the most effed up post-season [in NBA history]. You did. It's so weird. We have an eight seed, oh, two eight seeds in the conference finals. We have the first playing team, winning a series. We have two plan teams winning series. It's just the, it's parody. It's a lot like March Madness.

The 2023 playoffs did feature two No. 8 seeds (Heat and Lakers) in the Conference Finals for the first time in the current format, making it historically anomalous.

Faiza is the standout favorite for the Black-Eyed Susan Stakes

I think Faiza is a standout in the Black-Eyed Susan... Peterson said no, I'm staying loyal to [Baffert]... she's undefeated.

Faiza finished 3rd in the Black-Eyed Susan Stakes; Taxed won the race.
