Preseason football is officially in the rearview mirror, and Cut Day has arrived with a side of absolute insanity. Before getting into the roster moves, Big Cat and PFT had to address the internet's newest favorite villain: Deon Love. The man allegedly scammed women out of $1.3 million by pretending to be a San Francisco 49ers wide receiver, despite having zero muscle tone and running routes in the sand that looked like they were filmed in slow motion. He even did a fake Thanksgiving Turkey giveaway because that's just what NFL players do. If you're carrying a helmet into a restaurant, you're either a toddler or a master scammer, and Deon Love chose the latter.
NFL Cut Day and Training Camp Tales
As the rosters trimmed down to 53, some notable names found themselves looking for work or sticking in surprising spots. The Vikings' quarterback room remains a point of contention for Big Cat, who thinks the writing is on the wall for their high-profile rookie.
JJ McCarthy is finished in Minnesota
I've stated multiple times, I don't think JJ McCarthy's done as a player in the NFL. I do think his time in Minnesota feels like it's done because they kept Carson Wentz and [Kyler Murray].
Meanwhile, the Rams are making moves that have Big Cat reaching for the "Super Team" label, even if it usually acts as a curse for whoever receives it. Adding Miles Garrett and bringing Aaron Donald back from retirement makes them the paper champions of the NFC West.
The Rams are officially a super team after adding Aaron Donald and Myles Garrett
Are we officially calling them a super team? Yeah. Yeah. Because that means they won't win at all. Super team. But they are a super team. ... Aaron Donald and Miles Garrett. ... this was a team that was a play away from the Super Bowl last year and they just added two of the best.
Beyond the cuts, the guys touched on Michael Block still being a massive draw on the Champions Tour. Between the bat-flips and staring down galleries of twelve people, PFT thinks the Saudis missed a golden opportunity with the most electric man in middle-aged golf.
Michael Block could have saved LIV Golf
If [Michael Block] was five years earlier, he would be on LIV. He would have been LIV. And he would've been elected... he probably could've saved LIV. He's exactly what LIV needs. He's a disruption to the game of golf.
Pete Prisco's Season Preview
Our good friend Pete Prisco joined the show to deliver his annual dose of football wisdom and hatred for mobile quarterbacks. Pete is high on the AFC North and the NFC East, but heโs not ready to crown the usual favorites just yet. Heโs particularly bullish on Mike McCarthyโs squad in Dallas, even if the rest of the world is waiting for them to trip over their own feet in January.
The Dallas Cowboys will win the NFC East
I'm bullish on the Cowboys... I think Dallas to me is going to win the division. I think they'll be better than the Eagles. I think they're gonna be better than the Giants and the Commanders.
Pete also went deep on the "Vic Fangio effect" and why NFL passing numbers are plummeting. He thinks the league has lost its edge because play-callers are terrified of the interception.
NFL coaches and play-callers have become too scared
They've all become pussies when it comes to throwing the football... the passing numbers were the lowest average yards were the lowest they've been since 2009 last year... the whole mentality of don't turn it over has kind of bled into the way they call their games.
When it came to the cellar dwellers, Pete had some harsh words for the Dolphins and Browns. He thinks Cleveland is currently a ship without a sail at quarterback and should lean into the skid to secure a legacy arm in next year's draft.
The Browns should tank for Arch Manning
Deshaun Watson, not very good. They're not good at quarterback. So they're gonna have to be able to try and run the ball, manufacture some offense... get your quarterback next year [Arch Manning] and you bring him in there and then you start building around that guy.
As for the Super Bowl, Pete is looking for a rematch of the Big Game from a few years ago, but with a different result this time around.
Bengals will defeat the Rams in Super Bowl LXI
I think the Bengals are gonna win the division... I'm picking the Cincinnati Bengals to beat the Los Angeles Rams in the Super Bowl.
Whoโs Back and Mt. Rushmore
Who's Back of the week featured some breaking zoo news regarding a silverback gorilla trade and Jalen Brownโs somewhat awkward farewell party in Boston. PFT is also entering his "locked-in" phase for football season, making a bold physique prediction that would make a shirtless DK Metcalf blush.
I will have a six-pack by spring break
I'm going to get so locked during football season this year... I'm turning the last 15 years of my life upside down. This is going to be the season. I'm gonna get ripped. We're gonna have a six pack by spring break.
To wrap things up, the Mt. Rushmore season is reaching its boiling point. Hank and Zac went head-to-head on the Mt. Rushmore of Heavy Things. Zac opened with the psychological weight of "Death" and the physical weight of "Sidney Sweeneyโs rack," while Hank went with the classics: "Gold" and "Big Heavies." The competition is tight, and we might be heading for a Friday duel if Zac can keep this momentum going.
If you see a picture of Big Cat eating a burger at 7:00 AM on a Tuesday, just know he's chasing greatness.
