NFL Week 4 Recap: Bills Crush Dolphins, Bears Meltdown, and Hank Quits on Mac Jones

Week 4 in the NFL was the kind of Sunday that sorts the contenders from the pretenders, and unfortunately for Big Cat and Hank, it was a day of reckoning for the Bears and Patriots. We recorded the show while watching Zach Wilson actually look like a functional human being against the Chiefs on Sunday Night Football. If you only watched this one game, you’d think the Jets had a generational talent under center, especially since Taylor Swift was in the building to witness it.

Taylor Swift probably thinks Zach Wilson is the greatest quarterback of all time

If Taylor Swift, this is her second football game she's ever been to know of, she probably thinks that Zach Wilson is the greatest quarterback of all time. 'Cause he is outplaying Patrick Mahomes.

Subjective comedic take. In the specific game (Chiefs/Jets Week 4), Wilson did outplay Mahomes statistically.

The Swift effect is real, and the guys are starting to wonder if the spectacle is actually getting to the Chiefs' locker room after a shaky performance against a team that shouldn't have been in it.

Taylor Swift is a distraction for the Kansas City Chiefs

I think we need to have the conversation. Is Taylor Swift a distraction? I just love the word distraction because you can just throw it out there for anything. But I do think that if there was going to be a distraction, probably be like the most famous person in the world dating your tight end.

The Chiefs went on to win the Super Bowl this season, rendering the 'distraction' narrative moot.

The Bills Circle the Wagons and the Dolphins Hit a Wall

The most anticipated game of the day turned into a Buffalo bloodbath. After everyone spent a week crownng the Dolphins the greatest offense in the history of the sport, the Bills reminded the world that Josh Allen is still that guy. PFT is ready to throw the championship window wide open again, despite the week one panic.

The Buffalo Bills' championship window is wide open

I think the Window's wide open. They've got, they've got like years of the window. They're, they're gonna be fine. Josh [Allen] will be fine. He stinks against the Jets. It was a shitty game. He played awful that game... the Bills are gonna get better.

The Bills won the AFC East and made the Divisional Round, confirming they remained a top-tier contender.

The Dolphins might be electric, but they learned the hard way that scoring 70 on the Broncos doesn't mean much when you're facing a real pass rush. Meanwhile, across the pond in London, the Jaguars took care of business against a Falcons team that is stuck in neutral because of their quarterback play. Big Cat is officially done with the Desmond Ridder experiment.

Desmond Ridder sucks

Desmond Ridder sucks. It's, it's the truth. Like the Falcons are built a certain way that you can't have a quarterback throw interceptions, and it is painful to watch their offense sometimes.

Ridder was eventually benched by the Falcons later in the season for Taylor Heinicke and was traded to the Cardinals as a backup in the off-season.

The Bears and Bengals are in Crisis Mode

In Chicago, things have officially moved from "bad" to "historic disaster." The Bears managed to blow a 28-7 lead to a Broncos team that had just given up a seventy-burger the week before. Big Cat has seen enough of the Matt Eberflus era, specifically the decision to go for it on fourth-and-one in the shotgun instead of just kicking the field goal.

Matt Eberflus is a bonehead and a bad coach

Matt Eberflus is the reason why the Bears lost. Matt Eberflus is a fucking bonehead idiot and a bad coach... He's not a head coach. He is an absolute cluster fuck... He has no idea how to answer questions. He has no idea how to deal with the locker room.

While subjective, the Bears went 7-10 and Eberflus was retained for 2024, but his decision-making remained highly criticized throughout the season.

At this point, the goal in Chicago has shifted entirely. There’s no point in trying to salvage dignity when you can just embrace the bottom of the standings and hope for a franchise-altering draft.

The Bears should just tank and lose every single game for the rest of the season

Just Tank. Just lose every game. I, at this point just lose every game because you gotta change everything. ... I'll take a new band-aid 'cause it'll make me feel better for a little bit.

The Bears did not lose every game; they finished 7-10. However, they did secure the #1 pick via the Panthers' pick.

In Cincinnati, the vibes are equally rancid. Joe Burrow is clearly playing on one leg, and the Titans exploited every bit of it. The guys agree that the Bengals need to be adults and save Burrow from himself before he ruins his season or his career.

Joe Burrow is too injured to be playing right now and the Bengals should sit him

He's [Burrow] injured. He's very injured. He has sucked this year... He is a tough ass dude that has a lot of pride. But at some point, like maybe try to get healthy and, and sneak into a wild card spot because right now it doesn't look good... I would take the keys out of his hand.

Burrow continued to play until a wrist injury ended his season in Week 11. The Bengals missed the playoffs.

The Bengals should start Jake Browning or AJ McCarron for a few games to let Joe Burrow's calf heal

I would take the keys out of his [Burrow's] hand. I would be like, 'Hey, just sit out for a little bit, man.' ... I would say star [Jake Browning] against the Cardinals. I would say star 'em against the Seahawks and then Joe back. ... AJ McCarron can beat the Cardinals. AJ McCarron is one of those guys.

The Bengals did not bench Burrow; he continued to play until suffering a season-ending wrist injury in Week 11. Browning did eventually start and play well later in the season.

Hank Faces Reality and Who's Back

The Patriots' 38-3 loss to the Cowboys was the worst of Bill Belichick's career, and it finally broke Hank. After years of defending Mac Jones, Hank walked off the stream and somberly accepted that the dream is dead. He’s ready for the Zappe era, or really any era that doesn't involve Mac Jones throwing pick-sixes.

Mac Jones is bad and it is time for the Patriots to move on

Mac Jones is bad. Mac Jones is not the guy... They looked hopeless... I think it's time to move on. It's time... You can't get worse than the worst loss in Belichick's career. I'd rather do that with Zappe. Mac Jones, it's time to go.

Mac Jones was benched later in the season for Bailey Zappe and then traded to the Jaguars in the 2024 off-season.

We wrapped up the show with a heavy Who's Back segment. Europe is back after a dominant Ryder Cup performance that featured plenty of drama, including a caddy fight and Rory McIlroy losing his cool in a parking lot. Big Cat was not impressed with Rory's antics.

Rory McIlroy acted like a bitch at the Ryder Cup and I personally do not like him

Rory's a bitch. He acted like a bitch. I don't like Rory. He's, I know that everyone fucking loves him. I don't like him. I'm sorry. I don't like Rory. ... I personally do not like him.

This is a purely subjective personality preference and opinion on Rory McIlroy's behavior.

On the brighter side for Boston fans, the Celtics landed Jrue Holiday, immediately healing some of Hank's Patriots-induced trauma and making them the frontrunners in the East once again.

The Celtics are back to being the favorites to win the NBA championship

The Celtics today acquired Jrue Holiday... And they're back to being the favorite to win the NBA championship. It's an elite defensive back court with him and Derrick White. Tatum, Brown, it's gonna be exciting.

The Celtics finished with the best record in the NBA and won the 2024 NBA Championship.

At least someone in Boston has a reason to wake up on Monday morning.

I will buy into every weird drug and science Aaron Rodgers does if he returns to play this season

If Aaron Rodgers plays football in this season, I will buy whatever drugs in every weird thing that he does immediately... I will, I will essentially just my entire life I'll be like, you know what? I was wrong. His science [might be right].

Aaron Rodgers did not play in the 2023 season after his Week 1 injury.

I think, I think the Commanders will win 10 games this season. I think they're on track for 10. We, I would've liked to have this one [vs Eagles] going into Philly.

The Commanders finished the 2023 season with a 4-13 record.

The Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift relationship is fake and for clicks until I see physical proof

I don't buy it until I see some [physical proof]. ... Until that happens, I think it's fake. And I think it's for clicks. And I think Taylor Swift is using the NFL to try to make her star bigger.

The relationship has continued for over a year and appears genuine by all standard accounts.

The Buccaneers are good enough to lose a home playoff game by a touchdown

The Bucs are good enough to lose a first round home playoff game by a touchdown. Yeah. That's a pretty good team.

The Bucs actually won their home playoff game, defeating the Eagles 32-9 in the Wild Card round.

Christian McCaffrey should be the NFL MVP

I think Christian McCaffrey should be the MVP... Could we have a running back that's the MVP of the league? Yeah. He's on pace for nearly 2000 yards... If the Saturday before the Super Bowl was today, Christian McCaffrey would win MVP.

McCaffrey won Offensive Player of the Year but finished 3rd in MVP voting behind Lamar Jackson and Dak Prescott.

Brock Purdy is a top 10 quarterback in the NFL

He is a top 10 quarterback... I think Brock Purdy's a top 10 quarterback in the National Football League in 2023. Say it, everyone say it with their chest... I feel confident in saying this as of right now.

Purdy finished the season leading the league in passer rating and was a finalist for NFL MVP, justifying a top 10 ranking for that season.

I would understand if the 76ers decided to trade Joel Embiid

It's not that I want to trade Embiid, but if we were to get like a very great offer... The Sixers are nowhere near [winning a title] right now... If that did happen, I wouldn't be like devastated. It would make sense to me.

Max expressing understanding of a hypothetical Embiid trade is a subjective opinion about roster management, not a verifiable prediction.
