Paul Pabst on Dan Patrick, NBA Finals, and Stanley Cup Predictions
The Pittsburgh Penguins are officially Stanley Cup champions, which is great for the city of Pittsburgh because it feels like they haven't won anything in at least fifteen minutes. Big Cat and PFT were the first to report this on Friday, and the weekend confirmed their rock-solid sources. While the hockey world celebrates Phil Kessel finally getting a ring, the conversation naturally turned to Sidney Crosby's legacy. PFT pointed out that having two trophies is actually way better than just having one, because one trophy is just an awkward conversation starter.
It would have been worse for Peyton Manning to win only one Super Bowl than to have won zero
It actually would have been worse for Peyton [Manning] to have only won one Super Bowl instead of having won zero because he was really, really good for such a long time that if you have one, that trophy looks lonely on your mantle place. You know, you can explain not having any trophies. But if you have one, it's like, well, how come you don't have more?
The guys also had some notes for the NHL on how to handle the trophy ceremony. Specifically, PFT thinks that if you aren't wearing skates, you shouldn't be allowed to touch the ice. It’s about respect for the game.
Every person on the ice for the Stanley Cup celebration should be required to wear skates
I don't like the fact that they roll out a carpet onto the ice. I feel like if you're going to be celebrating something on the ice, it needs to be done by only people wearing ice skates. So like the guys in the tuxes, the girl that comes out to sing the national anthem, they all need to be wearing ice skates. Like respect the sport a little bit.
Warriors, Cavs, and Testicular Investigations
Turning to the NBA Finals, the series has been a bit of a letdown compared to the Stanley Cup. Big Cat is already leaning into the 'hockey is better' takes because the scores actually stayed close, unlike the 25-point blowouts the Warriors have been handing out.
Hockey is better than basketball because the games are more competitive
The NBA was blowouts everywhere, okay? Most of [the hockey] scores are either one goals or two goals. That's not a blowout. Hockey's better than basketball.
The biggest news ahead of Game 5 is Draymond Green’s suspension for his attempted nut-punch on LeBron James. While the league saw a flagrant foul, PFT saw a medical anomaly. He believes the reason Draymond missed the target is because of LeBron's alleged 'supplement' use.
Draymond Green missed LeBron James' testicles because LeBron is on steroids
Draymond threw a punch directly into the groin and didn't make contact with LeBron James' nuts... steroids, common side effect, shrink the testicles. making them harder to hit, harder to locate. So I think that the fact that Draymond... didn't make contact... that is a major red flag. And if I'm Adam Silver, I'm personally walking a piss cup into the Cavaliers' locker room and making LeBron James urinate into it.
Paul Pabst Joins the Show
Friend of the program and lead producer for the Dan Patrick Show, Paul Pabst, joined the guys to talk about what it's like being a Danette and working for a legend for nearly two decades. Pauly is a Chicago guy at heart, so he didn't hesitate when asked how the 72-win Bulls would fare against these Warriors.
The 1996 Bulls would beat the modern Warriors
I'd be shocked if the Warriors won it. I just look at the defensive matchups... Dennis Rodman is going to just, I think, negate Draymond Green. And then you bring in – when you have Scottie Pippen, who would look forward to covering these guys.
He also gave a peak behind the curtain of working with Dan, including a story about a 'knock-down, drag-out' argument they had in 2012 that ended up clearing the air for the next four years. Big Cat tried to test Pauly's loyalty by asking if he'd be willing to contract a specific tropical virus if it meant getting some hardware for the studio.
I would take a six-month case of Zika if it meant winning a Sports Emmy for the Dan Patrick Show
I'll take some Zika... a little smack. Is it like a six month Zika? ... [Trophies] look good. We're a TV show so trophies always look good in the background.
Segments and Future Predictions
In a tragic edition of Hurt or Injured, the guys discussed Juan Uribe’s testicular contusion. It sparked a larger philosophical debate from PFT about the failures of human biology and why we don't have built-in protection for our most sensitive areas.
Human evolution is not real because our testicles aren't protected by a rib cage
I think this really proves, though, is that evolution is not real. Because if you think about it, if evolution was real, like the most sensitive part of the male body, what is it doing just like hanging out there in the open? It should be like horses. It should be like inside. There should be a rib cage around your balls protecting you. A ball shield.
During 'Not Afraid To Go There,' the guys defended Steph Curry’s new 'Chef' shoes. While the internet was busy calling them 'Early Bird Special 4s,' PFT was busy praising their utility as a crime deterrent.
Steph Curry's low-top shoes are sleek and the safest shoes to wear to avoid getting robbed
I like Steph Curry's shoes. I'm here to say that they're sleek... there's no chance that a teenager will ever hit me with 'what are those' if I'm wearing the Steph Curry Lowe's... You also probably won't get knocked out and have your shoes stolen from you, which is also a plus... wear the Steph Currys, be the safest guy in the world.
Finally, the guys looked ahead to the 2018 Stanley Cup Final. They aren't interested in next year; they are looking two years into the future. Big Cat is betting on the Oilers' strategy of hoarding top talent, while PFT has a wild vision for the Capitals and Ducks.
The Ducks will play the Capitals in the 2018 Stanley Cup Final and Ovechkin will be on the Ducks
I've got the Ducks and the Capitals. Ducks and Caps. And Ovechkin's not on the team anymore, by the way. Ovechkin's on the Ducks.
The Oilers will face the Panthers in the 2018 Stanley Cup Final because they'll hoard more first-round picks
I got the Oilers because they probably have – they're going to somehow figure out a way to get like six more first-round picks between now and 2018. And the Florida Panthers.
We'll see everyone on Wednesday for an interview with Joe Buck that we've already recorded and can confirm is a total heater.
