Tyler Shough, Andy Staples, and the John Harbaugh Bombshell

Black Monday is usually a somber day in the NFL, but Big Cat and PFT Commenter found plenty of chaos to keep things moving. Between PFT spilling coffee all over his shirt and the coaching carousel spinning out of control, the landscape of the league changed in real time. While most teams are looking for the next young genius, PFT suggested one veteran might be the missing piece for a franchise in need of a culture reset.

NFL teams should consider Pete Carroll for their head coaching vacancies

There is a name out there that I think these teams should consider for head coach and he's not a hot young guy. Okay. He's a hot old guy. What about Pete Carroll? Someone should give a look at Pete Carroll.

Carroll did not return to head coaching in the 2026 cycle.

The guys broke down the current openings, debating which vacancies are actually attractive. While the Raiders have the top pick and the Tom Brady factor, the Titans and Giants seem to be the names on everyone’s lips as the premier spots for a rebuild.

The Titans and Giants are the most coveted head coaching jobs available

I think the Titans might be as crazy as it sounds. I think I, I might agree... I would hire Stefanski tomorrow. I really would. I think that he's gonna be a very good head coach.

The 'most coveted' job is subjective, though the speed and quality of hires for these positions would be the indicator.

Hank, meanwhile, spent his time mounting a fierce defense of Drake May’s rookie season. Despite the lack of hardware, Hank is convinced that May’s performance in a vacuum makes him more impressive than any other candidate, specifically because of the supporting cast in New England.

Drake May's MVP case is strengthened by his lack of Pro Bowl offensive teammates

Every other MVP in the NFL history has played with another pro bowler. Okay. But he's, so if [Drake May] is able to put up those stats without another pro bowler, that makes his case that much more interesting. Zero Pro Bowl teammates on offense.

While it's a subjective MVP argument, the claim that no other MVP ever lacked a Pro Bowl teammate is a verifiable fact claim often debated in MVP discourse.

Hot Seat/Cool Throne

Hot Seat/Cool Throne featured a deep dive into the *Stranger Things* finale theories, with Max and Hank losing their minds over potential secret episodes. In the NFL world, the Dallas Cowboys found themselves on the hot seat after a defensive season that was historically bad. PFT noted that Mike McCarthy’s job security is essentially non-existent when the defense is performing at an all-time low.

The 2025 Cowboys defense is one of the four worst in the last 40 years

I saw there was a, I think it was in DVOA Aaron Schatz stat. The Cowboys had the fourth worst defense in the last like 40 years. Pretty impressive.

While specific DVOA ranks change, the 2025 Cowboys were statistically abysmal, often ranking at or near the bottom of historical defensive efficiency metrics.

In the NBA, Trey Young is reportedly looking for a fresh start. PFT put him on the hot seat as a mutual parting of ways with the Hawks seems inevitable, though the question remains whether anyone wants to build around a guy who treats defense like an optional hobby.

Trey Young will be traded from the Atlanta Hawks in a mutual parting of ways

My Hot Seat is Trey Young. Because it looks like he is asking, demanding to be traded from the Atlanta Hawks and the Hawks are also trying to trade him. So I guess this is like a mutual parting of ways.

Trae Young was traded from the Hawks to the Wizards in January 2026. It was a mutual parting.

Saints QB Tyler Shough

Saints rookie sensation Tyler Shough joined the show to discuss his path to New Orleans and the difficulty of having a last name no one can pronounce. Shough has been a revelation for the Saints, but he’s well aware that his draft stock might have been slightly higher if scouts didn't have to worry about looking like idiots during the draft call.

I would have been a top 10 draft pick if my last name was easier to pronounce

Maybe a few years younger, maybe a couple letters off the last name. It might be, might be a little bit richer. So I don't, I don't know... once you learn it, it's kinda hard to forget it.

The impact of a name on draft stock is entirely subjective and unprovable.

He talked about his seven-year college journey, his connection with Chris Olave, and his ability to back a boat down a launch ramp with his eyes closed. Big Cat and PFT even managed to negotiate a deal where Shough will buy them a boat once he signs his next mega-contract.

College Football Playoffs with Andy Staples

Andy Staples hopped on to preview the semifinals, and he didn't hold back on his love for the Hoosiers. While the rest of the world is just catching on, Andy believes Indiana has been the most complete team in the country and should be viewed as the favorite to take it all.

Indiana is the favorite to win the national championship among the remaining four teams

I think you'd have to call Indiana the favorite. I mean, they, they've been the most consistent all year long. They've played the best in the biggest games all year long. And that goes back to, to when they went to Eugene and beat Oregon.

Indiana was the favorite and won the national championship 27-21 over Miami, completing a 16-0 season.

He also broke down the matchup between Oregon and Indiana, highlighting a specific weapon for the Ducks that poses a massive problem for any defensive coordinator.

Oregon's Kenyon Sadiq is a unique weapon with no equal in college football

Kenyon Sadiq, their tight end. There's nobody like Kenyon Sadiq in the whole country. He's, you know, 240 pounds, but runs like a, a really fast corner.

This is a subjective evaluation of a player's physical uniqueness and talent compared to his peers.

According to Andy, this game is effectively the national championship before the actual game, as the winner will likely be a heavy favorite in the final.

The winner of Oregon vs. Indiana will be the favorite to win the national championship

Whoever wins this game is gonna be favored in the national championship. I think it's, yeah, it's fair to point out that while Indiana looks super impressive... Oregon appears to be a much more formidable opponent.

Andy Staples predicted the winner of Oregon vs. Indiana in the CFP semifinal would be favored in the national championship. Indiana routed Oregon 56-22 and then entered the national championship as the #1 seed and favorite against #10 Miami, which they won 27-21.

The Harbaugh Bombshell

Just as the show was wrapping up, the news broke that John Harbaugh and the Baltimore Ravens had parted ways. It sent the room into a frenzy, with Big Cat immediately declaring that every other opening in the league had just been relegated to second place.

The Baltimore Ravens are now the best head coaching job opening in the NFL

John Harbaugh and the Ravens have parted ways... this is the number one job. By far... Like, not even close. That's like the most stable front office you can go to.

Subjective ranking of jobs based on roster and stability.

It’s the type of firing that changes the math for every owner in the league. If you have a coach you're on the fence about, Harbaugh being on the market makes the decision to fire your guy a lot easier.

John Harbaugh being available will cause several NFL teams to fire their current coaches

I think there's probably a couple teams right now that would like to fire their coach and hire Harbaugh. Like instantly you should get rid of him. Shouldn't even be a thought.

Big Cat predicted John Harbaugh being available would cause teams to fire coaches to hire him. Harbaugh was fired by the Ravens after their 8-9 season, his agent received calls from seven NFL teams within 45 minutes, and he was hired by the Giants on January 20, 2026. Multiple coaching changes occurred around this time.

If you aren't firing your coach to hire John Harbaugh, you aren't trying.

Brian Daboll would be an awesome offensive coordinator hire for the Commanders

I would like to see Dbol. I think Brian Dbol will be a great offensive coordinator in DC... that makes me think we might be getting Brian Dbol, which I think would be an awesome hire. That would be, I think he's a great, I I've said for a long time that like I think he could be a good head coach one day too.

Brian Daboll was not hired as the Commanders' offensive coordinator. He was hired by the Tennessee Titans as their offensive coordinator under Robert Saleh. The Commanders instead promoted David Blough to OC.

If a college coach doesn't show significant improvement by Year 2, the hire was a failure

If your guy's not getting it done by year two, you blew the hire. That's, that's it. In this era, you blew the hire, if your guy's not good by year two.

Subjective philosophy on coaching timelines, though increasingly supported by recent successful turnarounds.
