Monday Night Football left the Giants with the exact kind of emotional whiplash Big Cat has come to expect from being a Giants-adjacent observer: Jaxon Dart looked great, the vibes were finally alive, and then the entire season got thrown into a wood chipper. Jameis Winston was not good, but PFT found the only grading scale that could save him: backup quarterback vibes and sideline enthusiasm.
Jameis Winston is a reps guy
Jameis is a reps guy. His assignment going into this game: be the best backup you can be. Gas up the boys on the sidelines. Jameis, A-plus.
The Rams, meanwhile, looked like the team everyone thought they might be before the season, with Matthew Stafford firing deep balls to Davante Adams like it was 2021. Max was also forced to admit that he was actively rooting against Aaron Donald's comeback because a vintage Donald would be bad news for Philadelphia. This is the kind of honesty that makes an Eagles fan an Eagles fan.
Caleb Williams Internet Court
Caleb Williams' hamstring became the internet's main character after he was carted off crying, then received a diagnosis that made the whole thing memeable instead of tragic. Big Cat defended the tears, the mustache, the chiseled jaw, and basically every part of Caleb's public reaction, while also admitting the memes themselves were outstanding. His position was nuanced in the most Big Cat way possible: laugh at the memes, but don't be one of the weird people who genuinely hate Caleb for existing.
The Caleb Williams memes are funny, and being mad at them makes you a loser
If you get upset about the memes, you're a loser, because that's the internet being the internet. Those memes were funny.
PFT offered the most revealing Bears-fan prayer of the morning: give him a quarterback who is emotionally fragile but physically available. That is not how the team would write the press release, but it is probably how every fan feels after watching injuries pile up around the league.
A healthy quarterback is better than a tough quarterback
I would much rather my quarterback be a giant pussy than be injured.
The Giants news got worse later, when Dart was ruled out for the year and Case Keenum became the likely Monday night starter. The show briefly attempted to rank Case Keenum among the great historical Cooper Rushes, a sentence that should probably never be spoken before noon. Big Cat's forecast for New York was appropriately grim.
The Giants are headed back to being a four-to-six-win team
It feels like they're gonna just go back to what they've been doing, which is being like a four-to-six-win team with a couple frisky games mixed in.
College Football Has Arrived
Ole Miss-LSU produced a new college quarterback obsession in Trinidad Chambliss, plus the usual Lane Kiffin discourse about whether he can win the big one. PFT was ready to move Chambliss past Arch Manning entirely, while Big Cat declared that the AI controversy had successfully removed every last molecule of personality from Arch. He is now, apparently, a football-playing customer-service chatbot.
Trinidad Chambliss is the best college quarterback right now
Trinidad Chambliss might be the best college football quarterback. I think he might be a top-10 overall pick, depending on how tall he measures in. He's clearly a better quarterback than Arch Manning right now, and I don't think it's close.
Arch Manning has become a robot
Arch Manning has basically had his personality ripped out after the AI controversy. He's a robot now. We're never gonna get another quote out of Arch Manning.
Big Cat also gave Ole Miss the best résumé in the country through three weeks, which is exactly the sort of claim that sounds reasonable until the next Saturday turns the entire sport upside down.
Ole Miss had the best résumé in college football after three weeks
Ole Miss has the best resume right now through three weeks because they beat Louisville on a neutral site and then they beat LSU at home.
The wildest game of the weekend was NC State-Vanderbilt, where NC State had every possible way to preserve a three-point lead and chose the one where the quarterback refused to take the safety, got stripped, and watched Vanderbilt win. PFT's explanation involved Greg Schiano, the end-of-game whistle, and the general principle that college football players are still just kids capable of inventing new ways to ruin a Saturday.
NC State's botched safety was one of the dumbest endings ever
It was a tough loss for UNC. That was a tough loss for UNC. ... Finally, Greg's master plan worked out. Play to the end whistle.
Oregon then won 84-0 and somehow became the villain for it. Apparently blowing out Portland State is now a moral crisis, which gave PFT plenty of room to sarcastically mourn Dan Lanning's impossible position.
Hot Seat, Cool Throne
Hot Seat / Cool Throne featured Hank trying to determine which videos were AI, LeBron practice clips that looked like they came from a Friday afternoon pickup game, and Zac warning that miracle weight-loss drugs may come with a permanent blindness side effect. PFT's Mike McCarthy take was really an Aaron Rodgers accountability take: Rodgers needs to stop accepting all the blame and start telling the Steelers which plays stink.
Big Cat's favorite coaching euphemism was Todd Monken calling 31-year-old Deshaun Watson a “young player.” The comparison to Patrick Mahomes, Josh Allen, Joe Burrow, Lamar Jackson, and even the Ravens offensive coordinator did the rest of the work.
Deshaun Watson is not a young player
My cool throne is Deshaun Watson because Todd Monken said that he's a young player that is going to continue to grow. Thirty-one years old. He's older than Patrick Mahomes, Josh Allen, Joe Burrow, Lamar Jackson, and the Ravens offensive coordinator.
Scottie Scheffler, Unfiltered
Scottie Scheffler joined in person ahead of the President's Cup and was somehow both the best golfer in the world and the most normal person in the room. He explained why team golf carries a different kind of pressure, how he and Sam Burns banned apologies after bad shots, and what happens when that rule meets an actual cold shank into the woods.
Never apologize to your partner in team golf
We had agreed not to say sorry to each other. We're not gonna say sorry. ... I cold-shanked an iron shot off this par three straight right into the woods. Every part of me wants to be like, 'Dude, I'm so sorry.' I can't. I just looked at him and said, 'Good luck, man.'
The conversation eventually returned to Caleb Williams crying, which gave Scottie the opportunity to confirm that athletes are allowed to have feelings. Scheffler's answer was sincere, especially from someone who freely admitted he cries at everything. It also made Big Cat's entire Caleb crusade feel slightly more legitimate, at least until the next time he starts arguing about hamstring grades like a doctor.
Scheffler closed with a real answer about why he keeps practicing, competing, and trying to be a good husband and father. “Remember your why” is not usually the sort of line that survives a PMT interview without getting stepped on by a joke, but Scottie delivered it so cleanly that even the tracker discourse had to wait.
Joe Davis Calls His Shot
Joe Davis brought the perfect voice, three Dodgers championship rings, and the crucial clarification that the 2020 ring is technically real but spiritually complicated. He explained the responsibility of calling a huge moment, why the crowd can become a third voice in the booth, and how hard it is to find the right sentence for a Bryce Harper swing or a Freddie Freeman walk-off.
Davis also revealed that he coached Cooper Rush when Rush was in high school, which instantly upgraded his Cooper Rush credentials from broadcaster to quarterback whisperer. The conversation wandered through Jack Strands, Jake Felt, Clayton Kershaw, Greg Olson's alarming suits, and the possibility of a JD Davis catchphrase. “It's Jo” was workshopped, approved by a five-person focus group, and may now be legally binding.
When it came to October, Davis refused to pretend the Dodgers were an automatic lock. The injuries matter, the short series matter, and even the best team in baseball can get bounced in a few days.
The show ended with Guys on Chicks, a defense of a high-school football coach whose entire personality has become coaching JV, and an aggressive endorsement of the Dirt Bags as a wedding band. Then came the numbers, birthdays, and one final reminder that the PMT universe is held together by lottery balls, birthday lists, and extremely strong opinions about cover bands. The Dirt Bags should already be practicing “Mr. Brightside.”
