Maryland is a legitimate threat for a deep tournament run due to their favorable draw

I really like [Maryland's run] because they know what they got... Willard's got plenty of experience. I just love their shotmaking, their guards are tremendous... I really like their draw. And at some point when you're a four, you play the one. Hopefully you get a week to prepare and you roll the balls out. I love the Terps.

Maryland, as a 4-seed, did make a run to the Sweet 16 (beating Grand Canyon and Colorado State), which is a respectable deep run. However, they lost to 1-seed Florida 87-71 in the Sweet 16, so the 'deep tournament run' was moderate rather than truly deep.

McNeese State dominated Clemson despite the close final score

McNeese State I think leads the, leads the storyboard because what a day for Will Wade... and gives us a classic 12 5 upset where I know it looks like a two point game, but they were dominating Clemson for, for the majority of the game.

The speaker is recapping a game that occurred in the fictionalized/future context of the episode (2025).

Will Wade being honest about leaving for NC State is better than coaches who lie

I'd rather Will Wade be transparent about it. It's awkward that he took a new job before his team even played in the tournament... I'd rather have the Will Wade where you're just upfront about it than [Darian DeVries] who went from West Virginia to Indiana in The Bahamas in December and had his son sit out the year for a medical redshirt.

The sentiment of the take is subjective coach-to-coach comparison.

Bill Self is on the hot seat after losing in the first round as a preseason number one

Is Bill Self on the hot seat? I don't know if he's on the hot seat... Kansas also, they became the second AP preseason number one to lose in the first round of the NCAA tournament. Obviously Bill self not on the hot seat, but it's fun to have the conversation.

Bill Self is objectively not on the hot seat despite the loss.

Indiana is the #2 ranked team in the country and is being disrespected again

I think Indiana's already getting disrespected again and it's fucking insane. I have 'em ranked two right now and I'm with you. These are big time players. They already have guys coming back on the offensive line. Nick Marsh is a pro at receiver... I'm totally with you. I think what they've, people are just gonna say, oh, they can't repeat it's Indiana. That was a fluke. Just like, look at the roster, man. It's very doable.

The 2026 season outcome for Indiana will determine if Steve's #2 ranking was prescient or absurd.

Notre Dame will win the 2026 National Championship

I think Notre Dame's the real deal guys. I really expect, I, I expect them to win the national championship. The only thing, but they're in, in the Miami category, their schedule's not tough at all. I believe it's the best defense in the country coming into the season. And CJ Carr is real. The offensive line is locked and loaded.

Resolves at the end of the 2026-27 College Football Playoff.

This is the best team Lincoln Riley has had at USC, and the best team Brent Venables has had at Oklahoma

When you talk to people that have gone to see USC, it sounds a lot like Oklahoma this year. This is the best team Lincoln Riley's had at USC along with [Brent] Venables. This is the best team he's had at Oklahoma. So there's no more excuses.

Subjective opinion on roster strength, though it will be contextualized by their end-of-season records.
