Tom Fornelli and Andy Staples on CFB Preview and the Final Mt Rushmore
Football is back for roughly the sixteenth time this month, and Big Cat is waking up with an extra pep in his step despite a Saturday slate that offers very little outside of Oregon vs. Auburn. While the guys are ready for the grind of the season, the NFL news cycle is still spinning from the Andrew Luck retirement. Big Cat and PFT are already looking at the long game regarding Luck's potential return to the field.
There is a 100% chance Andrew Luck plays another snap in the NFL
I'm going to say there's a hundred percent chance that Andrew Luck plays another snap in the NFL. Oh, that's good. You know, why because I can basically keep saying it for the next ten years.
PFT is taking the opposite approach, citing some very specific, scientific reasons why the Colts' former franchise guy might stay on the sidelines forever.
Andrew Luck's shoulder failed to heal because Indianapolis was the first city to get 5G service
There is a doctor out there. He specializes in holistic medicine... He thinks that Andrew Luck shoulder didn't heal correctly because Indianapolis was the first city in the country to get 5G service. And he thinks that all the data swimming through that City interferes with the Regeneration of stem cells. Oh, so he thinks that Andrew Luck's his shoulder is actually never going to repair because of that.
There is a 0% chance that Andrew Luck ever plays another snap in the NFL
I'm going to say 0% for Andrew Luck [playing again]. I just don't see it happening. One of us is going to be right. It's a zero-sum game here. It's either going to play again or he's not.
Before getting into the previews, Big Cat and PFT shared their weekly frustration with the NCAA. This week’s target is the ruling against Virginia Tech’s Brock Hoffman, who was denied a waiver to play despite moving closer to his mother who is recovering from brain surgery. Big Cat thinks there is a method to the madness of these heartless rulings.
The NCAA intentionally picks unjust transfer stories to distract from their multi-billion dollar business
I actually think the NCAA depicts these stories specifically they're like, we need to find a way where everyone would think our ruling is completely unjust and bullshit rule that way. So everyone talks about that and not the fact that we make billions of dollars and you know, like extort everyone and and and basically run a entire corporation that is bullshit.
College Football Preview with Tom Fornelli
Tom Fornelli joined the show to help sort through the Big Ten hype, specifically the noise surrounding Nebraska. Big Cat admitted he’s starting to drink the Kool-Aid on the Cornhuskers, mostly because of their dynamic quarterback.
Adrian Martinez will be a Heisman finalist and Nebraska will win the Big Ten West
Adrian Martinez is going to get invited to Manhattan. They're going to win the Big Ten West and it's going to be the 80s and 90s all over again.
While they touched on the Big Ten West, the conversation shifted to whether Jim Harbaugh can finally get over the hump in Ann Arbor. Tom is high on the Wolverines modernizing their offense under Josh Gattis and thinks this is the year they finally break through the glass ceiling.
Michigan will win the Big Ten and make the College Football Playoff
I have them [Michigan] winning the Big Ten though. I have them getting the playoff. So I do think it happens this year.
Oklahoma will beat Alabama in the College Football Playoff semifinals
I think Oklahoma beats Alabama in a semi this year just because... I look at their problem last year that defense dipped off now they're losing one of their best defenders. Jalen Hurts revenge game, that would be great.
Andy Staples on the SEC and National Titles
Andy Staples hopped on to provide the SEC perspective and immediately ruffled Big Cat's feathers by suggesting Wisconsin has reached its absolute peak as a program. According to Andy, even the best coaches in the country couldn't move the needle much further in Madison.
Wisconsin has hit their ceiling and will never win a national title
I think they have got Wisconsin at about as close to the ceiling as you can be. I just don't know with Wisconsin. When they were rolling 10-11 wins every year, I think that's the ceiling right there.
Clemson will win the national title
I have Clemson, Alabama, Oklahoma and Ohio State [in the Final Four]. With Clemson winning a national title.
They also discussed the nightmare scenario for the Pac-12, which involves Larry Scott continuing to ruin the conference with 9:00 AM local kickoffs. Big Cat is convinced that there is only one man who can save the conference, and he’s currently working in a TV studio.
Urban Meyer will eventually take the head coaching job at USC
I think the only thing that's going to fix [the Pac-12] is Urban Meyer's going to go coach USC. As soon as that begins the Urban Meyer talk will start in earnest and I think that it's too obvious for a reason because we've seen Meyer do this before.
Mt Rushmore of Worst Mt Rushmore Ideas
To close out the summer, the guys did the Mt Rushmore of worst Mt Rushmore ideas—topics that would either get them canceled immediately or put the entire audience to sleep. Big Cat led off with "Racial Slurs," while PFT suggested "True facts about why vaccines are bad." It was a race to the bottom that included child abductions, the gender pay gap, and Big Cat's personal favorite: "Favorite porn creampie scenes."
Segments and Jilly Football's Exit
In a special Embrace Debate, the guys discussed Carli Lloyd's potential NFL tryout. Big Cat is fully on board, noting that women might actually be physically superior when it comes to the mechanics of placekicking.
Women are naturally designed to be football kickers
I think that women actually might have a natural advantage in their bodies when it comes to kicking because they don't have those clumsy testicles that you squish them. Sure when you kick true... They're probably designed to be kickers. I'm all for it. Let her kick Let her kick why not her.
They also touched on Sabermetrics, where PFT cited a study from a Twitter user named after the Geico Gecko to prove that quarterbacks usually peak in their seventh season.
The 'Seven-Year Bump' for NFL quarterbacks is real
Somebody actually put the stats together out there... they found out that nineteen out of twenty two quarterbacks entering year 7 had a better touchdown per attempt percentage... everyone except for Jay Cutler had a better completion percentage... Basically the seven-year bump is real.
Finally, the show wrapped up with Jilly Football’s official exit interview. Jill discussed learning the ropes of Twitter, roasting the guys one last time, and her confusion over what exactly a "Carstick" is used for.
We'll see if Jill actually stays retired or if she pulls an Andrew Luck and comes back the second she smells a fresh batch of cookies.
