Argentina is heading to the World Cup final, and Big Cat and PFT are officially living in Messi's world. After another masterful performance to send England packing, the conversation has shifted from whether Messi is the best soccer player ever to whether he’s the greatest athlete to ever lace them up.
If Messi wins the 2026 World Cup, he is the GOAT of all sports GOATs
So if he wins the World Cup again, I'm prepared to say he might be the GOAT GOAT. Like the GOAT of GOATs. Right now I think Michael Jordan and Muhammad Ali are both tied for the GOAT GOAT... But Messi could get on the Mount Rushmore of GOAT GOATs.
While Messi is cementing his legacy, England is busy cementing a much different reputation. PFT pointed out that they are on the verge of making history in the most pathetic way possible by potentially setting the record for most third-place game losses.
France will beat England in the World Cup third-place game, giving England the all-time record for third-place game losses.
England has, they've got the possibility to set the all time record for most third place game losses. Right now they're tied with Brazil with two. If they lose another one, then that would mean that they have that record on their own. And if you look back through history or at least recent history, three of the last five champions of the World Cup go on to win the third place game the next year. So that would mean that France would win this third place game and England would etch their names into history.
The Round Mound of Rebound Returns
Charles Barkley joined the show from Lake Tahoe, and as always, Chuck didn't miss. He addressed everything from his golf game to the current state of the NBA. The biggest news, however, wasn't about a trade or a game, but a phone call. After twelve years of silence, Sir Charles and Michael Jordan have finally buried the hatchet.
Michael Jordan and I have reconciled and are going to play golf together.
So one of my friends who's here, he, I was sitting at the house a couple months ago and his name popped up and I said, what's up motherfucker? That's where we talked to each other. He said, no motherfucker, it's MJ. And they were playing golf together. And we said, I said, oh man, how you doing? I hope you're doing great. Blah blah blah blah. And we're like, yo man, let's let this bullshit go. We were, we were great friends brothers for a long time and both of us being selfish and stupid. ... He says, Hey man, as soon as basketball is over, come down to my golf course and let's play. And I said, man, I'll be honored to, you know, I miss your friendship. And he said, I miss your friendship.
On the court, Chuck weighed in on the massive trade that sent Jaylen Brown to Philly. While most were stunned to see the Celtics move a top-tier talent to a division rival, Barkley thinks it was a move the 76ers absolutely had to make.
The 76ers trade for Jaylen Brown saved the franchise.
I was surprised he got traded to Philly because number one, you're in the same division, you're gonna be in the same playoff structure. So you gotta see that man a lot. But, and then it, it saved the Sixers franchise because they were dead in the water because Paul George's aging, Joel has not been able to stay healthy. And they got both of those guys for another few years.
He also gave a shout-out to a guy who doesn't get enough love north of the border, naming his pick for the most overlooked talent in the league.
Scottie Barnes is the most underrated player in the NBA.
I love Kawhi Leonard and Scottie Barnes. Scottie Barnes, I've been saying for the last three or four years, Scottie Barnes is the most underrated player in the NBA.
Austin Reaves on the New-Look Lakers
Fresh off signing a massive $185 million extension, Austin Reaves sat down to talk about his journey from a small town in Arkansas to being a staple for the Lakers. He shared a hilarious story about a tweet he wrote as a 12-year-old Kobe fan trolling LeBron, which he eventually had to explain to The King himself.
He also gave some insight into what it's like playing for new head coach JJ Redick. According to Reaves, Redick’s transition from the podcast mic to the clipboard has been fueled by a very specific kind of energy.
JJ Redick is a 'fucking psychopath' coaching the Lakers
He's a fucking psychopath. He's awesome. I mean, I've, I've loved every minute of it... His confidence in his self and, and his staff. I mean, I, I feel like he genuinely feels like he's the best coach in the NBA. And you want that.
When asked to build his ultimate squad, Reaves went with a lineup that might ruffle some feathers for those who grew up in the 90s, notably leaving a certain Chicago legend off the list.
My all-time NBA starting five is Steph Curry, Kobe Bryant, LeBron James, Tim Duncan, and Shaquille O'Neal.
Steph at the one... Kobe at the two, Bron at the four and Shaq at the five. ... I would probably go Steph, Kobe... people are gonna kill me for leaving MJ... Steph, Kobe, Bron, maybe like Tim Duncan, Shaq. That's pretty good.
Mount Rushmore of Birds
With Hank out, the guys tackled the Mount Rushmore of Birds with a strict "No Google" policy. This led to some questionable biology, including Zac trying to draft a Pterodactyl. Big Cat went solo for his picks and made a passionate defense for the most disrespected bird in the city.
Pigeons are the smartest birds because they live off human trash
Pigeons might be the smartest bird. There is one... they've essentially just over the years been like, Hey, you know where we should live? Right where the people leave their trash. We don't have to hunt for anything. We don't have to go fucking diving for worms and fish... Some guy's going to eat a calzone and not finish it and we're gonna finish it. So pigeons might be the smartest bird.
Fyre Fest of the Week
Fyre Fest featured PFT nearly destroying his golf cart in a failed attempt to "soup it up" with a soldering gun, and Max discovering his identity was stolen two years ago to buy four cell phones. But the real concern came from Zac, who is convinced that advances in robotics are about to lead to a total global takeover.
Robot armies will take over the world within the next 10 years
I think we're dangerously close like robot soldiers and the whole robots taking over the world thing isn't as far away as we thought it was gonna be... If you see this robotic hand from X1... it looks like a human hand. And I just think that we're like in a really bad spot and I didn't think it would come in our lifetimes, but it it might be over... I think it's coming like in the next 10 years.
Just remember, if the robots do take over, at least they’ll probably be better at ordering Sunday night Mexican food than Memes.
