Dan Orlovsky Breaking Down Super Wild Card Weekend, Notre Dame Advances, Picks And Preview + Fyre Fest Of The Week

Friday, January 10, 202516 takes

Wake up the echoes the fighting Irish are off to the National Championship. Drew Allar had an all time stinker and Penn State falls short again (-). Weekend picks and preview for every game of Super Wild Card Weekend and PFT is feeling confident about the Commanders (-). Dan Orlovsky joins the show to talk football, what has changed on the Ravens Defense, Chargers/Texans and tons more (-). We finish with Fyre Fest of the week (-).

Dan Orlovsky on Super Wild Card Weekend and Big Cat's Big Secret

Wake up the echoes because Marcus Freeman and the Irish are headed to the National Championship after a gritty win over Penn State. While the game started as a defensive struggle, the second half belonged to Notre Dame. Big Cat is officially a believer in the Freeman era after he out-coached James Franklin yet again. On the other side of the ball, the Penn State offense looked completely lost once their primary weapon went down.

Taking away Tyler Warren effectively ends Penn State's passing threat

I actually think that a big impact on this game was when Tyler Warren got taken out. When you take Tyler Warren away from Penn State, then you take away all the threat of their, their physical passing because they're wide receivers. Can't catch a ball.

Warren is widely considered Penn State's best offensive player and his absence/injury clearly hampered their production.

While the Irish celebrated, it was a nightmare performance for the Nittany Lions' signal-caller. Big Cat didn't hold back on the performance of the supposed first-round prospect who couldn't stop giving the ball to the guys in the wrong jerseys.

Drew Allar was horrific against Notre Dame

Drew Allar was horrific. Drew Allar threw three interceptions today. And he was so bad that even the last lateral of the game, he overthrew and threw out of bounds. But I like Drew Allar was, was horrific.

Allar threw 3 interceptions (though some were negated by penalties) and finished with a poor passer rating as Penn State lost to Notre Dame.

Super Wild Card Weekend Preview

The guys moved into a massive preview of the opening round of the playoffs, even if the NFL is trying to take the "Super" out of the name. PFT is riding high with the Commanders, believing that the rematch against Tampa Bay will look nothing like Week 1. Between Jayden Daniels' growth and a defense that has elevated itself to "medium-bad," the vibes are high in DC.

Jaden Daniels will run all over the Buccaneers

I think Jayden is going to run the fuck outta the football. And I think Austin Eckler is gonna run the fuck outta the football. I think that Todd Bowles is going to, if he tries to blitz Jayden the way that he did in week one, it's not gonna end up well for him.

Daniels had a solid rushing day but the Commanders lost the game to the Buccaneers.

Big Cat is narrowing the field when it comes to actual contenders this year. While the field is expanded, he thinks the hardware is only going to one of five locker rooms.

There are only five teams that have a real shot at winning the Super Bowl

I have five teams... Philadelphia Eagles, the Detroit Lions, the Baltimore Ravens, the Kansas City Chiefs and the Buffalo Bills.

Big Cat said only 5 teams had a real shot at winning the Super Bowl: Eagles, Lions, Ravens, Chiefs, and Bills. The Eagles won Super Bowl 59, and the other four teams listed were all among the top seeds in the 2024 playoffs. His list included the actual champion.

When it comes to the Bills and Broncos, Big Cat expects a massive scoreboard workout. Between Josh Allen playing at an MVP level and a Bills defense that has shown some cracks, the over feels like the play of the weekend.

I love the over in the Bills vs. Broncos game

I think I love the over in this game. I love it. Love it, love it. I think that the, I mean the weakness of the bills is their defense has not been great... And Josh Allen has been playing out of his mind and I think that he will not be stopped either.

The Bills beat the Broncos 38-17. The total was 55, which went over the pre-game line of 46.5.

Dan Orlovsky Breaks Down the Tape

Friend of the program Dan Orlovsky joined the show to provide the actual football intelligence that the rest of the cast lacks. He went deep on why the Ravens' defense suddenly became an impenetrable wall after mid-season struggles. It wasn't a complex scheme change; it was just moving one superstar into his natural habitat.

Kyle Hamilton saved the Ravens' season

Kyle Hamilton saved their season... What they did was they say, okay, the worst part of our defense is the secondary, let's take our best player and move him back there... he communicates at such a high level, he gets everybody in the right positions.

The Ravens defense improved drastically in the second half of the season following tactical changes involving Hamilton.

Dan also provided some hope for the underdog Broncos, noting that Patrick Surtain II is the closest thing the league has seen to Darrelle Revis in a decade. If Denver is going to pull the shocker in Orchard Park, it starts with locking down the perimeter.

Denver over Buffalo is the most likely Wild Card upset

I really do think it's Buffalo Denver because one, I think it's the game that most makes me feel like a real upset could actually happen... I think Denver's got a guy that could be the defensive player of the year in Surtain... it would be a massive upset, but I, I honestly don't think I, I would be surprised.

The Bills won comfortably 38-17, so the upset did not happen.

Fyre Fest and The Big Reveal

Fyre Fest of the week took a serious turn when Big Cat decided to finally address the "MassCat" rumors that have followed him for years. In an emotional segment, he admitted his Newton, Massachusetts roots but reaffirmed his soul belongs to Chicago. After years of feeling like a people-pleaser, he's done with the shame.

I'm done being ashamed of being from Massachusetts; I am a Chicago fan for life

I was born and raised in Newton, Massachusetts... I'm done with [being ashamed]. I have a fucking awesome life... my fandom of the Chicago teams is genuine... I am a Chicago fan for the rest of my life now.

This is a statement of personal identity and future commitment.

Hank is also dealing with some domestic heat as the internet roasted his interior design choices. Despite the critics, the Christmas trees are staying up in the condo until the Lombardi Trophy is hoisted.

The Super Bowl officially marks the end of winter

I'm keeping [the Christmas trees] up till after the Super Bowl. Super Bowl is the end of winter, as far as I'm concerned. That's the end of our season.

This is a subjective personal rule.

If being a theater kid who loves the Bears is wrong, Big Cat doesn't want to be right.

Marcus Freeman is a top-tier coach after beating Kirby Smart and Penn State

Marcus Freeman was incredible. I thought he coached a great game. Marcus Freeman, I'm a believer, like he last game when he, when he pants Kirby Smart. This game, how they came outta halftime... I think he's coached in incredible playoffs.

Freeman led Notre Dame to the National Championship game in 2025, validating the 'believer' status.

The Chargers will beat the Texans in the Wild Card round

Everything we just have said is just like, you should just take the [under]... I do think the Chargers win. I'm a little nervous about three just because it does feel like it's going to be a low scoring knockdown, drag out fight.

The Chargers defeated the Texans 24-10 in the Wild Card round.

The Ravens moving Kyle Hamilton back to free safety saved their season

The Ravens defense is since making the change... moving Kyle Hamilton back to more of a free safety role or playing him deep, the Ravens defense is like number one in every category.

The Ravens' defense did statistically improve significantly after defensive coordinator Zach Orr made adjustments to Hamilton's role around mid-season.

One of the three rookie/first-time playoff quarterbacks will win their first game

You gotta think, I think one of the three quarterbacks that are making their first playoffs start this year—Jayden Daniels, Bo Nix, Sam Darnold—one of those three is gonna win the game.

Jayden Daniels and the Commanders beat the Buccaneers 23-20 in the Wild Card round, fulfilling the prediction that at least one of the three first-time playoff QBs (Daniels, Nix, Darnold) would win their first game.

Jalen Hurts will be officially out of concussion protocol by Friday morning

By the time that you listen [Friday morning], Jalen Hurts will be out of concussion protocol... he is. They just haven't reported it yet. He doesn't have symptoms. He's good to go.

Hurts was indeed cleared from protocol and started the Wild Card game against the Packers.

Jaden Daniels will have an 80% completion rate against Tampa Bay

I'm gonna take Washington. I think Jaden Daniels sniffs 80% completion in that game. I just don't think Tampa Bay's defense is good enough on the perimeter. Hold up with them.

Daniels completed roughly 65% of his passes in the playoff game, falling well short of 80%.

The Chiefs will beat the Lions in the Super Bowl

I'm gonna pick Kansas City and Detroit in the Super Bowl. And I'm gonna say Kansas City does it... I'm afraid of not picking Mahomes... 15 finds a way, man.

The Super Bowl was Eagles vs. Chiefs (not Chiefs vs. Lions), and the Chiefs lost 22-40. The Lions lost in the Divisional Round.
