The World Cup knockout stage is officially here, and Big Cat and PFT are ready to ride with Team USA. Despite a late loss to Turkey in the group stage, PFT isn't sweating the small stuff. He’s convinced the path through Belgium and Senegal is exactly what the doctor ordered, even if he’s already looking past a few opponents.

The US loss to Turkey in the World Cup group stage means absolutely nothing

The second that we got scored on by Turkey in the last minute, don't really care at all that we lost that game. That game means less than nothing to us. No one's gonna remember what you did in that third game. We already advanced first in our group.

The US advanced as the top seed despite the loss, making the result literally irrelevant to their tournament survival.

Belgium's national soccer team isn't that good

I don't think that Belgium's that good. I'll say it. Maybe I'm looking past Bosnia and Herzegovina, but in Senegal path, I love it.

Belgium had a respectable performance in the 2026 FIFA World Cup, reaching the quarterfinals before being eliminated by the eventual champions, Spain. This contradicts the take that they are 'not that good.'

Naturally, the conversation turned to the absolute mess that is VAR. PFT reached a breaking point with the technology, especially after seeing goals called back for a literal pinky toe being offsides.

VAR makes soccer a lot worse, especially for offsides calls.

I think that soccer is one sport that we can say the VAR it makes a lot of stuff worse. Yeah, the offsides on the VAR is so much worse.

This is a subjective opinion about the impact of VAR on the enjoyment of soccer.

Big Cat, meanwhile, took a victory lap on his Cristiano Ronaldo hate, calling him an absolute bum after his lackluster group stage performance.

Cristiano Ronaldo is an absolute bum

But yeah, Ronaldo's, I mean, he's an absolute bum. I think we can all agree, right? Zach?

Subjective categorization of an all-time great player as a 'bum.'

Phil Mickelson and NBA Drama

Outside of soccer, the world of golf is buzzing with rumors that Phil Mickelson is getting kicked out of exclusive clubs for some truly unhinged behavior, including allegedly showing a teammate's wife a very specific flex photo.

The walls are closing in on Phil Mickelson

Walls might be closing in on Phil a little bit. It wasn't just the kid, it was like everybody at that club. He was known for going up to them and just being like, Hey, I'm just gonna leave my phone in your cart for a couple hours. Hope that's cool.

The 'closing in' is a general prediction about Phil's reputation and status in the golf world.

In Who’s Back, Hank defended Jaylen Brown after an anonymous analytics guy ranked him as only the seventh-best player on a team. Hank is ready for a scorched-earth campaign from the Finals MVP.

Jaylen Brown will go on a revenge tour next season.

Jaylen Brown is gonna be on a revenge tour this year and I want him on the Celtics.

Will be resolved based on Jaylen Brown's performance in the upcoming 2026-2027 NBA season.

Big Cat backed him up, noting that there isn't a single roster in the league where Brown isn't a top-two option.

Jaylen Brown is the best or second best player on every team in the NBA.

It is insane that anyone would say that [Jaylen Brown] is the seventh best player on an NBA team. He's gonna be the best or second best player depending on what team you pick. I don't think you can pick a team that you'd be the, I actually don't think you could pick a team that you'd be the third best.

Subjective opinion on player rankings across the league.

Dave Portnoy: Cancel Me If You Can

Dave Portnoy joined the show for a heavy-hitting interview to promote his new book. The conversation got real when discussing the "sliding doors" moments in Barstool history, specifically the fallout from the ESPN and Barstool Van Talk debacle. Dave credits that disaster with creating the "common enemy" mentality that fueled the company’s massive growth.

Barstool wouldn't be as big as it is if ESPN hadn't cancelled Barstool Van Talk

I don't think we're like the behemoth if ESPN didn't ironically create a common enemy for all of us to unite against. That is a huge moment. That was the moment that realigned kind of everybody and forced us down the path where it's gonna be us kind of together.

A counterfactual historical take that Dave strongly believes in.

He also admitted that without the legalization of sports gambling, he might have walked away from the company entirely when his first contract after the Chernin investment was up.

I probably would have left Barstool Sports if sports gambling wasn't legalized.

I didn't think I would stay [at Barstool], I don't know what would've happened with Barstool. I don't know what they would've done with you guys contracts, but I think I probably would've been on my own.

A factual claim about his own mindset at a specific point in time; inherently subjective to his perspective.

Dave stood by the brand's history, arguing that while critics love to cherry-pick old content, the sheer volume of material they produced without editors is actually a testament to their track record.

Barstool's track record of avoiding offensive content is actually very good considering how much was published without an editor.

I actually think our track record is so good for the amount that we're publishing trying to be funny with no editor. And it's like that I always, it's like you going back to 2010 for one blog when you've got read everything I've ever written. But you just try and make people laugh.

This is a subjective view on the company's editorial history.

Zach Top and the Return to Tradition

Country music phenom Zach Top stopped by the studio to talk about his rapid rise and his Grammy win for Best Traditional Country Album. Even as a winner, Zach admitted that taking home a trophy over a legend like Willie Nelson felt a little wrong.

Beating Willie Nelson for a Grammy feels sacrilegious

It's pretty sacrilegious. I beat Willie Nelson [for Best Traditional Country Album]. Doesn't that feel wrong? Yeah, it feels really wrong. Kind of fucked up actually.

Inherently subjective feeling of the winner.

Zach discussed how he never consciously chose his sound; he just grew up on the greats and feels like the genre is finally swinging back away from the "bro-country" era.

Country music is currently cycling back toward its traditional roots

Now people are kind of, alright, let's, kind of get back to come back home where this came from. I feel like that's kind of where we are right now. Country music finds some new wacky edgy sound, chase that for a little while and then people eventually feel like, ah, yeah, but let's get back to what we know and love.

Trend analysis that appears correct given the success of artists like Zach Top and Chris Stapleton.

To wrap things up, he gave us a very specific and very traditional Mount Rushmore of country songs that would make any old-school fan proud.

The Mount Rushmore of country music songs is 'Amarillo by Morning', 'If Drinking Don't Kill Me', 'Between an Old Memory and Me', and 'Today I Started Loving You Again'.

My Mount Rushmore, I'd go Amarillo by morning and then I would probably go, if drinking Don't Kill Me, George Jones, her memory will. And then I would go, there's gotta be a Merle Haggard song in there. Let's go with Today I started Loving You Again.

A subjective list of favorite songs.

Baker Mayfield will have a bounce-back year

Baker's gonna have a bounce back year. He's not injured anymore. You get healthy. Play fast. Play good.

Outcome depends on the 2026 NFL season stats for Mayfield.

The opposing goalie intentionally let Lionel Messi's free kick go in.

I think he made a cho there. He may have made a choice right there in that moment. I know there's a couple angles where you don't believe it, but then there's like one or two where it's like, oh, he just sold. Like he just, yeah.

There is no evidence the goalie intentionally let the free kick go in; he was just poorly positioned or beaten by the shot.

France shouldn't be allowed to have a Disneyland because that is a uniquely American attraction.

We found out a fun fact in researching Mount Rushmore. There's a Disneyland in France. They got one. I didn't know that. That's bullshit too. They shouldn't be allowed to have [it]. We were shocked. We were like, what the fuck is that? That's ours.

This is a subjective, comedic take.
